  1. For what it's worth, MLB Trade Rumors has a synopsis up where Attanasio has basically said he's not interested in seeing the team dismantled, and feels the team could make a run again next season.
  2. I found a bunch of packs at Walmart this afternoon, as well as a few "jumbo" double packs. Haven't opened them all yet, so nothing exciting to report yet. They had a couple blaster boxes as well, but I didn't bother with those as the returns on the card pulls don't seem as good, from what I've read. I'm not interested in bothering with re-sale at this point.
  3. I think a lot of it depends on how confident the Phillies are in being able to re-sign Werth after this season.
  4. Well, the thing is, everyone has abs. It's just very difficult for certain people to lower their body fat percentage enough to actually see them. I don't think it's impossible for anyone, but just very hard, especially as you get older.
  5. I doubt you'd even get a high ceiling AA pitcher for him at this point. Maybe a decent pitcher in single-A or some kind of OK-ish veteran AAA pitcher. That's about it. That said, I'm not opposed to trading him if someone wants him. It's clear the team has much better options in the rotation at this point.
  6. Why would the Nats have any real interest in Fielder, though? 1B is not a position of need for them right now, and they can probably extend Dunn for a much cheaper deal than it would take to keep Fielder long term. And as good as Gallardo is, he would be a downgrade from what Strasburg is likely going to bring. I still can't figure out if that original post was supposed to be a joke or not.
  7. I am definitely glad that the Brewers are playing better baseball and have a small win streak going. My biggest fear, though, is that come mid-July, they will be hovering around .500. Melvin will sit on his hands and not sell anyone off, but at the same time not make any significant moves to help the team get into real playoff contention.
  8. Pssst...today is a day game. I am wearing my "Trevor Time" t-shirt in anticipation of seeing Hoffman. Hopefully this doesn't jinx the game.
  9. I admit I was surprised last night to see Axford pitch after throwing two innings the evening before. I guess you have to give Macha credit for sticking with him. I imagine Hoffman will get a turn today if warranted, as Axford really should rest, though.
  10. This is why Raul's Spanish "Word of the Day" on 540-ESPN after the game last night was juventud.
  11. The other weird thing is that right now, Florida is only one game below .500 and only 6.5 back in the division. I have to believe there was more to this firing than just performance.
  12. Madison Bumgarner has been regarded as pretty much "untouchable", but I guess you never know if they get desperate enough.
  13. They were saying on the radio this afternoon that Bobby Valentine could be a top candidate.
  14. Nice win last night. As I commented last night, I'm going tonight and tomorrow, so it was nice to see them kick off the homestand with a big win over the Twinkies. They almost coughed it up, but it was nice to see Macha be aggressive in pulling Coffey and using Axford for two innings. I was almost in shock when it became apparent "The Ax Man" would be out again in the 9th.
  15. I don't know a ton about Maggette, but initial reaction to this trade seems pretty positive.
  16. What the hell is this? Can someone clue me in?
  17. One I was thinking of today: "How would the '08 playoff series have turned out if Suppan hadn't started Game 4 versus the Phillies?"
  18. Pretty much getting to be "make or break" time on deciding whether the Brewers will be buyers or sellers in July. I'm going to the two games after tonight, and would love to see a winning home stand.
  19. Whoops, yes. I meant to say: "pitching has become rather overvalued while power hitters have become rather undervalued," like you said.
  20. I think right now in terms of the general "market" in baseball, pitching has become rather undervalued while power hitters have become rather undervalued.
  21. The article mentions he had some sort of prior "offense", so it sounds like he wasn't just fired because of this one incident. Still, it's not like he was saying something the vast majority of Pirates fans aren't thinking. What a joke that once great franchise has become.
  22. I've been getting into these a little bit lately. Haven't gotten my hands on any of the jumbo or hobby boxes, as you can't seem to find them anywhere right now (well, they're on Ebay, but at ridiculous rates). I've bought a couple of the blaster boxes (which I realize don't give you a shot at Strasburg, which is kind of lame), and have gotten a couple purple refactors, a Hak-Ju Lee chrome refractor, a Heyward gold border RC, and a couple other neat things. Nothing too exotic, but not a total bust at least. On a side note, I've bought a few of the 2009 Allen & Ginter blaster boxes, and I think I like that set a lot. Got a Yunel Escobar hand numbered bazooka mini card, a BJ Upton relic card, and some other cool stuff. Probably going to save up to get some of the 2010 boxes when they come out at this point (end of the month, I believe).
