  1. I somewhat was pulling for the guy to make a comeback, as I always kind of liked him. At the same time, it's kind of a kick in the pants that the Brewers were the last team to give him a big money deal. Says he "feels great physically, but has no desire to pitch."
  2. I guess I'm getting kind of tired of the fans trying to pin all the team's problems on any one given player, whether it's Suppan or now Davis. We saw the same thing come up last year when suddenly Nelson was the team's antichrist, and you had fans calling for him to be cut. Because yeah, when the team starts 4-8 on the season, it's probably due to the 25th man's inability to hit, right? Gallardo hasn't been performing anything close to a #1 pitcher yet, but hasn't caught much heat from the fans on this forum. Wolf has been "OK, but more like a #4 or 5, than a #2 or 3. Bush has been pretty good so far, but that's about the most glowing review you can give for any of our starters so early into the 2010 campaign. It's a problem with how the rotation is constructed as a whole, not just a problem with one or two guys that are under-performing in any given week.
  3. If we're simply hovering around .500 near the All-Star break, it will probably more evidence that the pitching isn't up to snuff, not that the manager is to blame. At that point, I hope Melvin will take serious stock of the situation and begin trading off some expensive pieces for high upside depth, rather than another half-hearted "go for it" approach like last season (ie. a couple minor deals, but not really addressing the true needs of the club or taking any big steps forward). I would rather just stick with Macha and dump him after the season than try to change horses mid-season again. I'm not really interested in seeing Randolph or Sveum simply handed the job. I'd rather they look at all possible candidates, which is more likely to happen after the season than during the middle of it.
  4. I wasn't sure where exactly to put this, so feel free to move if needed. I found it pretty interesting, though. Dominican prospects protest reforms. Last Wednesday, over 800 prospects, coaches, and scouts gathered outside of the hotel of recently appointed MLB Dominican baseball czar Sandy Alderson in the Dominican Republic capital of Santo Domingo. Alderson joked to local reporters that he should have brought lunch for the crowd, but those in attendance, stationed behind a police barricade, simply wanted to make sure Alderson heard their three-word chant: "No al draft." No to the draft[/i].
  5. Are there any indications that Boston would even be looking to move Ellsbury? Do they have some hot prospect in AAA that they are looking to call up? I honestly wouldn't know.
  6. DFA? Why not just kill him? It's two full weeks into the season, after all!
  7. Yes, but yesterday the pitching wasn't even really the problem. Almost complete lack of offense combined with terrible defense sunk the game yesterday.
  8. The difference is that Wolf has pretty much always been a better pitcher than Suppan, though, with better "stuff" overall. The main difference has been that Wolf has had more injuries.
  9. I agree with that part. I thought Macha actually did a pretty good job handling the bullpen and starting pitching last year (and it's not like he had much to work with). This year, however, some of his moves are really leaving me scratching my head (repeatedly using Narveson, barely using Parra, leaving Hawkins out there to fail, etc). It makes me wonder if there is something more going on that we aren't aware of.
  10. Work continuing on Lake Geneva location. Says they're hoping to have it open around Memorial Day. http://media.gazettextra.com/img/photos/2010/04/16/BraunRestaurant_t700.jpg?f40c0e74b997dbb01ce524758e0d04a31382c8af
  11. As frustrated as I am, it's worth remembering that this same team started 4-8 last year, then bounced back and was in first place on July 1st (IIRC). Hopefully our pitching down the stretch will be stronger than last season.
  12. Not too much of a rant. I've accepted I'll probably never see the Brewers win the World Series, I just want them to be competitive and make the playoffs on a semi-regular basis (ie. more than once every 20-30 years). This team is just looking incredibly sloppy right now. This defense is looking like the laughable Cubs defense we saw earlier in the week, and that is just sad.
  13. Well, looks like Macha made the right call, or at least lucked into it.
  14. It does seem like Yo tries to be too "fine" at times. His stuff is good enough where he should just go after guys.
  15. I'm getting more and more on the "Send Gomez to AAA" bandwagon.
  16. Speaking of colds, I suddenly came down with one in the middle of the night, last night. What's frustrating is I don't think I've been around anyone that's been sick lately, and felt perfectly fine earlier in the day. Such is life, I guess. Hopefully it goes away by tomorrow, since we're supposed to have friends over.
  17. You should point out that Philadelphia is West New Jersey.
  18. Suppan did a good job. Not a great job, but good enough. I wish people here could at least admit it. Feels good to see Hoffman get the save, at any rate.
  19. Just asked this in the chat...but is it at all possible they are looking at trading Parra?
  20. I know everyone hates him, but Suppan hasn't been that bad today, guys. Better than Zambrano, anyway.
  21. I figured we'd be down by four or five by now, so a tie going into the fifth isn't that bad.
  22. If Gomez can ever put it all together (and I know the Twins were saying the same thing, but he's still young), he will be much, much more valuable to the Brewers than another #5 starter. We already have plenty of #5 types in the majors, and at AAA. The people saying that Hardy should have been traded a year earlier continually ignore the fact that Escobar was not considered MLB ready before 2009. Yeah, we had Counsell on the staff, but no one knew he was going to put up the numbers he did last season.
  23. I would hope all Brewers fans would be ecstatic if that does occur.
