  1. Having seen this particular sign in person this afternoon, I can say I could probably whip up something nicer looking in my garage using dollar store art supplies. It's really tacky looking out there.
  2. I do like the tribute to Hoffman's pursuit of save #600. Nice to see them playing that up this year.
  3. This kind of sounds like the usual empty threats they make every year, but it will be interesting to see if anything comes of it: The Major League Baseball Players Association is thinking about filing a collusion grievance charging owners with conspiring against free agents last winter, according to the Associated Press. Union head Michael Weiner confirmed to the AP that there is an ongoing investigation. "We have concerns about the operation of the post-2009 free agent market," Weiner said. "We have been investigating that market. Our investigation is far along but not yet complete." Agents for players have claimed that they have received multiple similar offers for free agent clients and have urged the union to speak up on the matter.
  4. I can barely watch wrestling anymore. Actually, I rarely do. I really got turned off from it after Chris Benoit killed himself and his family; and the subsequent wave of deaths of guys I grew up watching hasn't really raised my enthusiasm.
  5. I meant to say "evidence that Attanasio pushed for a fourth year."
  6. Are they going to whine about the Red Sox using the untuck now as well?
  7. Maybe it's the fact that I'm getting it through cable, but I don't think WMLW looks bad this year (last year it was awful and all blurry), even on my 50" plasma.
  8. Attanasio with some followup comments, via Tom Haudricourt: "If you look at his statement, I think he talked about the hundreds of millions the Yankees have put (into revenue sharing), not that we've received hundreds of millions," said Attanasio. "We've received a small piece of that. "We do get a piece of revenue sharing, and we appreciate it, and we need it, and we use it. We put it to use. It's a matter of record that we use our revenue sharing dollars pretty much every year in our budget." Attanasio goes on to say he didn't feel Levine was referring to him or the Brewers specifically with his comments about revenue sharing. That said, I still think he was way out of line.
  9. I've heard the Brewers get only about $5 million from their TV contract, so there is in fact a huge discrepancy.
  10. I live in Jefferson County and have Charter and am sure the game will be on tonight.
  11. No, and I hope it's not the last either. Keep calling them out, and they can keep digging a deeper hole for themselves with their transparently arrogant and selfish comments.
  12. Maybe, but if he keeps quiet, there's no chance for any effective change either.
  13. Levine's comments were just plain disingenuous. He knows damn well that the pittance of money the Yankees are giving the Brewers on an annual basis won't make a hill of beans in allowing them to field a payroll anywhere close to his team's. It's actually fairly disgusting that the president of a major and historic sports franchise would make such idiotic and combative statements.
  14. Glad to see the game will be on TV, even if it's WMLW tonight...I think originally this one wasn't going to be televised at all. Looking forward to seeing Wolf's first official start as a Brewer.
  15. This is all Attanasio said in USA Today: "We're struggling to sign (first baseman Prince Fielder)," Milwaukee Brewers owner Mark Attanasio said, "and the Yankees infield is making more than our team." While it maybe wasn't the best way to phrase his statement, I still think Levine was way out of line with his comments.
  16. Correct. There is not correlation to the business models the Packers and Brewers operate under whatsoever.
  17. Just reading some of the arrogant, self-entitled comments from the Yankees fans on that ESPN article makes my blood boil. They have it on easy street and are completely aware of it, but somehow feel like that still gives them some semblance of perspective on the issue. They make me sick.
  18. The revenue sharing stuff is one of those things we never get a clear cut answer on, because it's not as if MLB is just going to open up their books and let everyone see where all their money is coming from. I do remember that the Brewers were praised by the union and others this off-season for actually spending all or most of their money on fielding a competitive team, whereas the Marlins and a few other franchises were called out for not doing so.
  19. The comments from Levine seem really immature and overly vindictive. I guess they reflect the typical New York arrogance. I don't know if Attanasio should necessarily have told USA Today that they are "struggling to re-sign Fielder", though, as it could send a negative message to the fanbase.
  20. And of course he'd be one of the ones yelling at you to "show some respect" if you were at Wrigley doing the same thing against the Cubs.
  21. Good. That will make it all the more sweet when they grudgingly have to admit we have a good team later on in the season.
  22. Actually, I partly agree that I think it would be better to have Gomez bat 8th in the lineup to start the year (with the idea he could more easily get on base and advance on a bunt from the pitcher, etc). My point was basically that if he keeps showing the offense like he did yesterday, I doubt anyone is going to complain much.
  23. I wasn't there yesterday; but I'm guessing it was nowhere near as bad as last season, since the Cubbies and their fans weren't in town.
  24. For whatever it's worth, there is talk on the CBS Sports site that the Brewers either have or are soon to offer Fielder a contract of 5-6 years, around $20 million per year. Supposedly it's been posted by the same guy that correctly stated the Brewers were going to extend Braun about three days before it was announced.
