  1. Maybe they could get the Blackhawks up to play an NHL game or two since Milwaukee is supposedly part of their "territory."
  2. Comparing Sheets to Davis/Hawkins/whomever is irrelevant at this point since Sheets did not want to come back to Milwaukee. I think he still is mad that Melvin didn't commit financial suicide for the team by offering Sheets a long term contract before the '08 season started.
  3. Haha...great minds think alike. And to clarify, I was not trying to throw this on anyone. It would be great to see you guys again, it at all possible.
  4. I was curious if anyone has any plans for BF.net winter meetings this year? A tall task, I know, but I enjoyed last year's session.
  5. I remember years ago the WWF did a big show at County Stadium, I think around 1988, with a Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant match. Not sure what would preclude them from doing a show at Miller Park, other than the fact that wrestling isn't as popular as it used to be and they might not come close to selling out.
  6. "I doubt anyone reading this right now can say the same. FWIW, Fangraphs had his performance worth (in average free agent dollars), $3.2 mil last year and $4.6 mil the year before. If he was worth what a school teacher was worth to his employer, he wouldn't even be in the league." Come on. You knew you were going to be called out on this, right? I guess I'll be the one to do it. And I don't really care what Fangraphs says. I'm don't have a beef with his salary last year...but it's clear he didn't earn a huge raise. A $900,000 raise is pretty darn generous. His production is replaceable. If he is angry that he turned down a larger contract earlier in his career, he can look in the mirror for who he has to blame.
  7. It wouldn't surprise me. I think Melvin is probably fairly tech savvy and connected.
  8. What is really scary to think about if Braun hadn't come up two months after the season had already started. Sure, his defense would have been horrible, but his offensive numbers would have made the ROY voting a closed case.
  9. logan, I'm not personally upset about it. It just shows a pattern of irony (to put it nicely) that he went through a similar situation last year, and also reportedly turned down a contract that would have paid him a much larger amount in the past. I personally hope Melvin holds the line and takes him to arbitration. He should be grateful for a $900,000 raise at this point.
  10. It sounds like a fake story. It cites People, but I checked out the People website and there's nothing about Zambrano on there, as far as I can tell. Bleacher Report is pretty awful. The Greinke thing someone else brought up was particularly hilarious. Edit: I also notice the author of the Zambrano article is a Brewers fan, so I'm assuming this joker is just trying to smear Zambrano. Assuming that's the case, I'm ashamed that he is a fan of the same team I like.
  11. Brewers' spokesman Tyler Barnes said the $300 fee was imposed because of safety concerns related to the intersection of W. Blue Mound Road and N. Story Parkway and the drop-off point near the home plate area. Those concerns include pedestrian traffic and shuttle activity. "The best solution in our eyes was to staff the intersection with Milwaukee police officers, as well as add staffing to the drop-off locations," Barnes said. "The fee will help, but not completely cover the expenses related to staffing." It seems somewhat valid. The bars are creating this issue that necessitates increased staffing. $300 is a relatively small price to pay to be able to promote their Brewers shuttle services, I'd think.
  12. I would say Tulowitzki is a very good player, but Braun is clearly an elite player that almost any team would kill to have. I don't think you can say the same for Tulo. Sorry, but offense is still more valuable than defense.
  13. I agree completely. This baseball culture that players should automatically get huge raises year to year has gotten insane. A guy like Hart with his performance track record should be grateful to be getting a basically automatic $900,000 raise to begin with. Who is his agent? Whoever it is, isn't doing a very good job in managing their client's expectations.
  14. I'm sure Melvin doesn't want to break his "streak" of not going to arbitration hearings, but it might not be a bad thing to make an example out of Hart. I think the Brewers would probably win the hearing. Melvin has shown recently that he's willing to get tough on under performing players, and Hart may have to be held accountable at this point.
  15. I know you're referring to Gagne, but at that point the Brewers had a very solid rotation and didn't have a need there.
  16. Well, the nice thing about hanging on to Parra at this point is that they do have alternatives at this point. If he gets into late May and is still struggling (assuming he even makes the rotation out of spring training), they can insert Narveson or Suppan. They also may have viable options to call up from AAA. Parra can then be moved to the bullpen.
  17. Exactly. The Brewers don't play in the kind of market where they can afford to gamble $10 million+ on an oft-injured starting pitcher who hasn't played in over a year at this point. I think someone else may have been right that the A's may have been feeling some pressure to spend more money this off-season after what happened with the Marlins.
  18. The problem is that no one wants him at this point because he is fairly easily replaceable and will likely be overpaid this year. Hopefully Hart comes in with a slight chip on his shoulder and proves the critics wrong. I am not going to be overly optimistic about him, though.
  19. If you sign Damon for $5-6 million, they would probably have to cut salary somewhere else. It sounds like the Brewers are basically at their limit now as far as salary. That would probably mean non-tendering Hart or trading him for basically nothing (if anyone even wants him).
  20. He probably deserved to get at least double that. Seems like a good bargain for the Twins.
  21. Well, there you go, you bring up another valid point.
  22. People complained before divisional playoffs, interleague play, and the wild card, but I believe all those have been beneficial to the game of baseball. "Tradition" shouldn't stand in the way of innovation and fairness. When you have only one division with six teams, it's just patently unfair and unjustifiable. No realistic or satisfactory reasoning for it has ever been given. Bud Selig probably doesn't want to fix it because he does not want to give the appearance of trying to help the Brewers (which has been accused of doing in the past by moving them to the NL in the first place).
  23. Could they do a hockey game in winter? Outdoor hockey games seem to be in vogue right now.
  24. And yet this isn't a problem in the 32 team NFL, which also has wild card teams in the playoffs.
  25. Sheets was bitter toward the club for not re-signing him before '08 started, and they probably wouldn't have been able to justify paying him $10 million+ this season anyway. Sometimes players just leave clubs. Ben was a Brewer for a long time...I'm not going to get too teary eyed that he's somewhere else now. It's a reality of pro sports that players move on for various reasons.
