  1. I saw a stat someone pulled out that said Davis' average start was only about 10 minutes more than the league average last year. So it's really not that big of an issue as much as people would like to say.
  2. Yeah, I'm sure someone ends up in the pen, not AAA. I wouldn't hold your breath for a trade at this point, either. As much as Suppan gets trashed around here, I guess I'd rather have him as an option for an emergency start than Mike Burns or Carlos Villanueva.
  3. Yeah, Rosendale is a notorious speed trap. The local gas station sells t-shirts that say "I got ticketed in Rosendale," or something to that effect.
  4. Love this quote from Melvin, via McCalvy, when asked about who will not make the rotation: "Players help make those decisions." Sounds like no one is guaranteed a spot, which is what we want to hear, I think.
  5. I would tend to doubt that since Wolf's deal was longer to begin with. That said, I'm certainly no expert or insider on these matters. Haudricourt tweets that Davis' deal could max out at $12.75 million if his 2011 option is exercised and he reaches all his incentives. I'm sure that won't happen, but if he makes all his IP and GS incentives it's still not horrible.
  6. I actually like that anniversary logo. I was worried they were going to try and "mash it up" too much. I'm going to try to get to some of those bobblehead games...I'd really like to get the Sabathia one, at least.
  7. Good signing. Seems like a reasonable value. I like that it's only one year with an option for 2011.
  8. Maine isn't worth a Coffey or Salome at this point. I'd give up Villanueva or Hart for him, but that's about it.
  9. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20100114&content_id=7919436&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb Link from about a week ago. Yeah, sounds likes he's closer to retiring than not. "I haven't officially [retired] yet," Glavine said. "I don't know why. I think if anybody has any common sense, they can figure out that I'm probably not going to pitch again."
  10. Sounds like a lot of the talk is that Sheets may get a 1 year deal at $7-8 million now. That seems more reasonable than what his agent was supposedly demanding a month ago. Still puts him out of the Brewers' price range, and that excludes the fact that Sheets doesn't want to return to Milwaukee. I hope he stays out of the division, at least.
  11. I think if he signs an extension this off-season, it would really endear him to the fans. Wisconsin sports fans usually appreciate that sort of thing. I would wager that yes, Prince is a draw at Miller Park as well. People like the dingers, after all.
  12. It seems like a reasonable deal for what Hernandez brings. I'm not going to fall all over Jack Z and call this a tremendous "deal", because this seems fairly in line with what a pitcher of Hernandez's caliber would be paid.
  13. I would say Beane deserves at least some credit for those playoff runs in the mid '00s...but his stock has fallen somewhat, especially since the big market teams seem to have "caught up" to the Moneyball type strategies. Oakland doesn't really look like a club with much of a solid plan at this point.
  14. Yeah, I haven't understood all the "cut Bush" talk lately either.
  15. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/82094917.html Link has figures players are asking and what the Brewers are offering.
  16. "If he stays healthy". We've been repeating that refrain for a while. I sure hope he can. It would be nice if that brief fliration he showed last season ends up being his real capability over a full season.
  17. Seems reasonable enough, even if he just has an OK season.
  18. I think it's hard to get too upset about bringing in a guy on the league minimum, regardless.
  19. I agree 100% CheezWiz. I know I've said this before, but I remember when people on this forum would say repeatedly about the Brewers' youngsters, "These guys are young and have ability...we need to give them time to improve and mature as players." Now we have a young CF with tremendous speed and defensive ability who has shown flashes of being a good hitter, just hasn't put it all together yet...and he's only 23! Yet so many on here seem like they're going to be actively rooting against him this upcoming season. I mean, some people are saying they would rather see 32 year old Jody Gerut (useful player, but a total example of a "yawner acquisition" last year) get the starting job in center field! Come on...it's getting pretty hypocritical on some levels. I think a lot of it is misdirected bitterness at Doug Melvin for not magically pulling a mythical "young talented cheap pitcher" out of his rear for JJ Hardy.
  20. Jopal, you are right in that the glut of impending 1B-type players hitting the FA market may play to the Brewers' advantage in this.
  21. Leno's trying to spin this like NBC is the evil mastermind behind it all, so he doesn't look like too much of a dirt bag when Conan inevitably leaves the network.
  22. I've never understood that saying. Doesn't Nino mean, "boy?" I've also heard it refers to the Christ child.
  23. I think we're going to see either Davis or Washburn signed very soon. Just a hunch I have at this point.
  24. Rumors say it's 5 years and about $78 million total.
  25. It seems like the Brewers' 4th OF's unofficial job is to always be a "lightning rod of criticism" with the fan base, no matter who it is. Gerut for $2 million isn't that bad. He's a competent player who is probably making about average for an average bench player his age. Not that big a deal either way.
