  1. I do think it would be a shame for Milwaukee to lose pro basketball. I think it would be one of those things where after the team leaves, people would realize they miss it more than they thought. And I would guess after the Bucks leave, the chances of ever getting an NBA team again would be slim to none. Hopefully the people of Milwaukee will somehow get a new arena built in the next few years. They should realize it's good for the city overall to have pro basketball.
  2. I'll admit it made me chuckle a bit.
  3. Randy Wolf =/= Jeff Suppan. That is all I have to further say on the matter.
  4. http://www.whorunsgov.com/Profiles/Herb_Kohl According to this, he paid $18 million in 1985.
  5. No, if anything, Melvin seems to be lying low on the starting pitcher front for whatever reason.
  6. I guess I don't understand why Green would be that valuable to the Brewers with already having McGehee and Gamel around.
  7. I agree with the hotel votes here. I like my chances versus probably only one pscyho, instead of versus all the idiots that don't slow down during a bad storm.
  8. I bought a single-stage Toro before the snow hit last year. It has the little blue lever that makes it easy to switch the chute from one side to the other, which is a really nice feature, and I think it was around $600 (I think it was one of the cheaper ones in which you didn't have to mix the gas and oil together). I think I have a very similar Toro...mine was a bit more expensive, and you have to mix the oil and gas together. I really like mine though, even though it's just a single stage. That thing throws the snow pretty far, which is cool. It was able to cut through the thick snow yesterday, though I also had to break out the shovel at the end of the driveway. With most snowblowers you'd have to do that after the plows hit, around here, though.
  9. The hilarious thing with Sheets is supposedly he's refusing to do any throwing sessions for anyone. To have that position and still demand what he was paid two years ago seems laughable to me.
  10. The Astros have a bad GM, but he could be pressured by their ownership into making moves like this. They really should go nuclear there and just completely rebuild at this point.
  11. We have to remember they could possibly trade for that second starter as well. Someone like Maine, Correia, etc. might be available without giving up too much.
  12. Wolf was only "unwanted by his old team", because the McCourts are going through a messy divorce and consequently the Dodgers have no money to spend. A lot of Dodgers fans are mad they didn't try to keep him or even offer arbitration.
  13. Good points. Or perhaps Melvin plans on making a trade by then?
  14. I forget the specifics on the Rule 5...if he doesn't make the 40 man out of spring training, he goes back to the Indians, right?
  15. Now we have at least two lefties in the rotation which should ease the load on Stetter a little. That's a great point I hadn't even thought of yet.
  16. battlekow, you must be psychic. They picked Lofgren, according to McCalvy.
  17. Interesting article on the Bucks' financials here: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/business/78958297.html Forbes magazine, which annually examines the value of teams in the various professional leagues, has released its analysis of National Basketball Association teams. The Milwaukee Bucks, according to Forbes, is the least-valued team in the 30-team NBA. The magazine reports that the team is worth $254 million, $353 million less than the Los Angeles Lakers, the most valued team at $607 million. Moreover, the magazine reports that the team's has dropped 9% in value from last season, and lost $7.4 million last year. The franchise genereated an estimated $91 million in revenue, a whopping $118 million less than the Lakers and second only to the Memphis Grizzlies. NBA teams produced on average a total of $126 million in revenue,
  18. brewizard that may all be true, but I still don't see what the point is in whining about the team bringing back a serviceable bullpen arm.
  19. Yeah, I'm still not on board with non-tendering Bush unless it's to clear room for a significantly better starter, not a Davis/Washburn type. Bush was on track to have a great season before that freak line drive derailed his year. If Bush had been healthy the whole year and we had a guy like Wolf instead of Looper, we probably would have made the playoffs.
  20. Seems like we haven't heard any talk of the Brewers looking at him. I hope I'm mistaken and Doug is going to inquire about him at least, but I won't hold my breath at this point.
  21. My feeling is that the team is best off by showing steady competitiveness within their division. Keep people interested in coming to the park, buying jerseys, etc. Then, when you feel you have the chance, you roll the dice every now and then (like the Sabathia trade). Maybe take on some salary, make a signing, etc. This means you never get to sign three guys like Teixiera, Sabathia and Burnett in one year. Maybe one - but not three. And you don't deal your top three prospects for one or two guys - maybe one prospect, but not much else. In the end, you have a consistent core of quality young talent (cheap) that can be meshed with more expensive pickups when the time is right. This sounds pretty much like the Brewers current strategy.
  22. Crew07, I think you make some valid points, I have to admit. At the same time, I don't know what model is out there that the Brewers can realistically follow. The Twins get brought up time and again, but they never go far in the playoffs (something you seem against), and the Marlins model doesn't seem sustainable. Even Billy Beane's team hasn't won anything in a few years. It seems like you want Doug Melvin to invent some new sort of system...or rather you want him to have done it 3-4 years ago. Well, maybe we just have to wait for the next GM to come up with some new ideas. I think as a fan who attends the games I have to say that Melvin seems to be trying his best to win in what is basically a broken economic system. I'd rather buy tickets to see this team that is genuinely trying to win than one that would probably be in rebuild mode again already.
  23. Hoser, you need to ask her, "What's this WE stuff?"
  24. That would be a landslide deal for the Brewers. Not sure what incentive the other two teams would have to do it.
  25. I really don't know what to make of this statement. I guess I just disagree with it outright.
