  1. $9 million per year for three years of the second best FA pitcher on the market really doesn't seem like a hug deal to me. Really, if we didn't have to pay Hall and Suppan this coming year, I doubt many would be that concerned. You have to spend money to compete, generally speaking.
  2. Maybe it's not a highlight per say, but the whole "Deputy" Braun flap was pretty memorable.
  3. One less hole to fill. Good move by Doug and Co.
  4. Well, the latest talk seems to be that Bush will be retained, so you might have nothing to worry about there.
  5. I'm not sure I agree that he would probably be moved for a reliever. I think if he's traded it has to be for a starting pitcher. I would guess he'll probably be moved at this point. Where there's smoke, there's a fire.
  6. And CF may not decline as much as some think. Gomez is way too young to adequately project at this point. I know many on here have become incredibly jaded due to the Suppan boondoggle, but can we quit bringing it up in relation to future pitching acquisitions? I'm pretty sure Melvin himself does not want to repeat the same mistake.
  7. My worry about Bush is that the inury he suffered this season will still affect him next year. He was downright awful after taking that line driver off his arm.
  8. bobskube, that would be nice, but I would have to believe we would not get him with just $6 million per season. Some other team would swoop in and outbid the Brewers.
  9. Well, by then Prince Fielder is almost certainly gone and 2012 will probably be a rebuilding year anyway.
  10. Kennedy can probably get better results in the NL West than the AL East though. I wonder if this means Melky Cabrera gets traded this winter as well.
  11. Just saw this on a tweet from Haudricourt. I don't have a link yet to any more info. He's been there over 20 years, so this would be quite a change for the "World Wide Leader" as far as their baseball coverage. Edit: Here's the press release. Apparently he will be done after the winter meetings wrap up.
  12. I think this is a good deal for all three clubs involved. New York is actually giving up a decent amount of talent, but they're getting a player they obviously were quite high on (and who is very good). D-Backs are getting two nice pitchers, and Detroit is getting a nice haul too.
  13. I remember the news anchor playing with one of those on Family Guy (I think). I forget what they called it there.
  14. This reeks of being one of those "Let's sign a veteran recognizable player to hopefully put some butts in seats", kind of signings.
  15. Wolf last year had an ERA around 3.20 and a WHIP around 1.10. Even if he regresses somewhat (and I'd say he almost certainly will), he's significantly better than either Suppan or Looper. Do we have to go over the numbers again on how bad the Brewers rotation was last year? Everyone other than Gallardo and Narveson was completely pathetic. It's not even debatable.
  16. If not Wolf, than who? They're probably not going to get John Lackey, so who else is out there in free agency that has a realistic chance of coming to Milwaukee and being better than Wolf?
  17. Because Boras and his company can't realistically service all 750+ MLB players?
  18. Well, that's what sucks about guaranteed contracts, especially for small market teams like Milwaukee. But, it's clear they have to do something. They can't just sit there and do nothing and hope and pray that the current rotation is miraculously much better than they were last season. And it's not like Wolf would be their only acquisition of the off-season (at least I'd certainly hope that's the case).
  19. I'd have to say some of those projections seem pretty optimstic. I personally think Suppan's ERA will end up higher than 5.09, but I guess stranger things have happened. Though I agree with your point there are some decent options out there, the trick is not to overpay too much for the wrong guy.
  20. If they do sign Wolf, I would be inclined to offer up less than Hart for Maine if I was Melvin.
  21. Drive safe out there folks...heard there were already several accidents on I-94 earlier today.
  22. Ankiel will get an inflated contract due to being a Boras client. I don't think the Brewers have a shot at him.
  23. Surprised Suppan isn't on the list. I guess maybe it's the fact that if it was a larger market team, the size of his contract wouldn't have been that big of a deal. Plus he was at least decent his first season.
  24. I'm not impressed by Penny at all. He was pretty bad for the Red Sox last year. Boston couldn't even get anyone to trade for him, supposedly. Seems closer to another Suppan than something more.
  25. Latest info on MLBTR: ESPN's Jayson Stark tweets that the Brewers offered Wolf more than Tim Hudson's three-year, $28MM deal, but a half-dozen other teams remain in the mix. I really hope they don't go more than $10 million per year, as much as I would like to see Wolf signed.
