  1. People are talking like Melvin is done. He has said repeatedly he intends to obtain at least two starters. I think Mulder is a given, but it seems likely he will get at least one more guy. If he gets Sheets or someone like that, it will be roughly equivalent to this Harden signing that you all think is such a great deal. Personally I think Harden could be likely to miss more games than he pitches, but that's just my opinion.
  2. Is Duchscherer supposed to be ready to go by Opening Day? If so I think they should definitely investigate (probably already have, but you know what I mean).
  3. Yes, but who knows if Sheets is really worth even that much at this point? He hasn't pitched in over a year. He could be a very different pitcher than the one we remember from the summer of '08.
  4. Supposedly Sheets is demanding $12 million for a one year deal and refusing to do a public work out for anyone. Yeah, good luck with that, Benny. If that is the case, it makes sense that the Rangers went with Harden instead.
  5. After reviewing the Edwin Jackson trade my assessment is that the Brewers clearly did not have the chips necessary to land him. The again, even if the Brewers did, people would have complained Melvin gave up to much after the fact.
  6. Now they're saying he's a Ranger, "officially." Funny.
  7. This may not be a done deal yet. ESPN Radio is saying he's close to signing with the Mariners!
  8. I doubt the Rangers sign Sheets now. Plus it's worth noting they cleared room for him by trading Millwood.
  9. Seems about right. I agree with Ennder...Harden isn't someone you can count on at this point, unlike Wolf.
  10. Now they're reporting it looks like he'll sign with the Rangers for about $7.5 million.
  11. The only way I could see Lowell making sense is if the Brewers trade Prince in a blockbuster and need a stop gap first baseman. He would be a downgrade from Gamel or McGehee at 3B at this point in his career.
  12. Yeah, they speculate it may be the Mariners.
  13. Latest on MLB Trade Rumors says that Harden is on the verge of a one year deal with an "unknown team." Any chance it's the Brewers at all?
  14. At least he seems to have finally dropped that "The Brewers may trade Braun this off-season" angle he'd been banging the drum on.
  15. MLBTR has talk from Buster Olney that rival execs say it should just take second tier prospects to get Correia or Kouzmanoff. So yeah, maybe Dillard and Irribarren or something like that could get it done.
  16. Wouldn't the smart move be to try and trade for him before he is non-tendered? I would think the only thing holding the Brewers would be if the Padres simply want too much for him. He should be relatively affordable.
  17. I agree. He seemed to show signs of being really awful last year. I'd rather move him now if at all possible before he's completely worthless.
  18. Yeah, but we needed someone who can reliably fill out the middle part of the rotation. Wolf can do that. No one is really offering any realistic alternatives other than "Sign three high risk/high reward guys and pray that a couple of them stick", leaving out the fact that guys like Bedard may not be any cheaper per year than Wolf.
  19. I just had some wonderful white cheddar cheese curds along with a Leinie's Red Lager. Sorry.
  20. I have to believe if they offer him an "OK" deal (maybe around $2 million for this year with some kind of mutual option for a second year) and they can get him locked up quick.
  21. I have to believe if they offer him an "OK" deal (maybe around $2 million for this year with some kind of mutual option for a second year) and they can get him locked up quick.
  22. Maybe they could make room for Harden, but they'd probably have to non-tender Bush.
  23. If he's anything close to what he was last year, than it's a fantastic value.
  24. I wouldn't assume Wolf will go the entire season (hopefully he will), but certainly he has a stronger chance to pitch more innings than Sheets, Harden, etc. And Melvin could still sign one of those guys anyway.
  25. Seems like a very solid 7th/8th/9th out of the bullpen either way.
