  1. Haudricourt has a story up about how Melvin intends to make an offer to Craig Counsell at the winter meetings, so it sounds like there's a good possibility he'll be back. I have to believe Counsell would prefer to stay in Milwaukee at this point in his career.
  2. Yeah, last night was another winner. I liked the look on Leslie's face when she realized she was going to have to take the guy (forget his name) to the strip club. And yes, the buffet thing had me laughing pretty hard too.
  3. Not that I'm going to Ireland anytime soon (maybe someday...we might be going to Germany in 2011, but that's up in the air right now), but I'm curious on the costs. I've heard Ireland can be surprisingly expensive. Just wondering if that's accurate or not.
  4. I liked last night's episode. The whole "Scott's Tots" was so over the top and painful at the same time. I just hope they don't go too crazy with the Dwight/Ryan plot against Jim. Realistically Jim should be much more wary of Dwight going forward, since it should be obvious he tried to get him in trouble with David Wallace.
  5. I think Mulder seems like a forgone conclusion based on what some have reported. He should be pretty cheap, though. I would like to also see the Brewers get one of the above four, and then maybe a more reliable pitcher like Randy Wolf or someone like that. It's weird how little we've heard on Sheets lately. I wonder if he is ready yet or not. Supposedly he will be by spring training, but only time will tell.
  6. I don't know what Polanco's projected "value" is, but looking at his recent history, they're probably getting an above average defensive player, who may be slightly below league average offensively at 3B. I would worry his production may fall off by that third year, but not enough to make this a really bad signing. $6 million per year definitely doesn't seem out of line for a player of Polanco's caliber, in my opinion.
  7. I have no idea what you mean by that, Tbadder. Do you just mean in terms of payroll flexibility, or beyond that?
  8. Melvin alluded to the idea very early in the off-season that no one would be guaranteed a rotation spot going into spring training. That would seem to suggest that they may strongly look at putting Suppan in the pen. I would guess Parra might be a bullpen candidate too.
  9. No, I think people basically never get banned there. It's more of a comments section anyway, not a real forum like here. Anyway, since nothing has been announced yet, I would guess the rumor is pretty much disproven at this point. I don't doubt the Brewers are interested in Wolf, though. I just don't know if they would offer him close to $30 million so early in the hot stove season.
  10. Thanks for summarizing it for me, And That.
  11. Not really. They're closer to the Yankees in terms of payroll flexibility than the Brewers. And since they've been to the World Series the last two years, they're probably trying for three-peat. I would guess they're not exactly short on cash.
  12. There's been a history on the JSOnline blog of posters proclaiming that they have "inside information" that a signing or trade will occur, getting everyone worked up. Then it inevitably doesn't occur and the whole thing looks stupid; or Haudricourt gets asked about it repeatedly when there is nothing to it. Thus, I can understand why he would seems somewhat annoyed.
  13. I wonder if it's more an FSN thing than an Anderson thing. It seems like I remember him being a bit more quiet on TBS (I could be wrong). Like maybe FSN wants them to cater more to the casual fan who isn't as knowledgeable so they feel the announcers should constantly be giving information. Just a theory.
  14. Even if he's bad by that third year, they could just DFA him (like they did Jenkins). The Phillies are like the fourth biggest payroll in baseball, so a few extra million isn't a big deal for them.
  15. Info is up on MLB Trade Rumors. Reportedly a three year deal worth $18 million total. Presumably he'd be playing third base.
  16. I've found doing a written warning can nip this kind of thing in the bud, though it sounds like that may not be necessary in this situation.
  17. I don't know why they would bother if the roster budget is so apparently thin as it seems to be. It seems like between Kottaras/Lucroy/Salome/Rivera(?) they have enough internal options and I'm not sure what Zaun would really offer beyond those four. My guess is that he ends up with the Rays or Rockies instead.
  18. Some tidbits available from a recent interview with new MLBPA head Michael Weiner: Players would like to see the first round of playoffs expand to best-of-seven when their next labor contract starts in 2012, Michael Weiner said Wednesday in his first news conference since replacing Donald Fehr as the union head. "There is a lot of sentiment for a seven-game division series," Weiner said. "I think a properly constructed postseason schedule could accommodate three seven-game series but still have it extend over a shorter period of time than what happened this year." Weiner hopes the length of the postseason can be shortened next year and was happy to hear commissioner Bud Selig say he will try to cut off days. Four extra days off were added in 2007 at the request of baseball's television broadcasters. As a result, the Angels and Yankees played just eight games in the first 20 days of the playoffs. I saw elsewhere that he said the union would be on board with an international draft, but would not approve a salary floor, as one would guess.
  19. Do you happen to have cameras at your place your place of work?
  20. Oh, don't get me wrong, I'd love to see him as a Brewer too. Especially if it's under $10 million/year for only three years. I just am not going to hold my breath.
  21. Reminds me of that clown who was proclaiming for sure that Peavy was being traded to the Brewers back in March. There's a couple somewhat connected people on this forum who would probably be confirming that very soon if true. I have my doubts Wolf signs so early in the "hot stove" season, though.
  22. According to Haudricourt via Twitter, Randy Wolf stated a couple teams are going hard after him already. Haudricourt speculates the Brewers are one of those teams.
  23. Here's what's bugging me: You know those commercials for law firm Binder & Binder that are all over TV? Why is Charles Binder wearing a cowboy hat? I started typing it in Google, and sure enough, one of the first suggested searches was "charles binder cowboy hat." Is he trying to look tough or fatherly or something? Covering an embarrassing bald spot? I just don't get it.
  24. Perhaps they were concerned with McGehee's apparent nagging injury issues and Gamel's almost complete lack of MLB experience. Also factoring in Counsell's age, I still think trading for Lopez is a solid move. I do agree that getting a draft pick as compensation would have made it make a lot more sense going forward. The "razor thin" budget comment seems spot on. Though if they don't make a big splash and sign John Lackey or trade for another upper tier pitcher, this is all going to look pretty pathetic.
  25. To be honest I doubt it. I think they're set with Gomez in CF with possibly Gerut as a backup.
