  1. That seems reasonable. At the very least, putting that much money on the table would make Prince think long and hard about his long term career plans.
  2. Joe Morgan and Joe Buck are about the only two that actively annoy me on a routine basis.
  3. The only scenario I can see that would require Weeks to move to CF would be if they re-sign Lopez....something I wouldn't necessarily be against.
  4. Maybe you could check on a Nationals fan forum? Not sure what that would be, though.
  5. I don't know if there's any real evidence that Attanasio has blocked any trades. It does seem there has been a deficiency in flipping position players for pitching. The LaPorta trade seems to have been the one exception, and of course that was for a rental.
  6. Packers will always be #1 in this state. The Brewers could win the World Series two years in a row and the Packers would still be more popular. It's not good or bad, it's just the way it is. I will probably enjoy the playoffs despite the fact that the Brewers won't be in it. I can cheer against the Cards and Yankees, and there's usually one or two teams I can get behind (like maybe the Dodgers or White Sox this season if they make it in, or the Rockies have been a nice story again).
  7. I'm glad Casey has been so good this year (overall), but I, like others, hope the team isn't penciling him to a starting position next season. If the right trade comes up, they need to do it. I think there's too many red flags on him to be sure he will be this productive next season and beyond.
  8. As far as Attanasio, he'll have to decide soon if he wants the team to make a push to be excellent, or if he's content with just being OK like the team is right now. I would think spending a bit more in the next year or two would pay off in the long run.
  9. It'll take closer to 6 years and $100 million, maybe even more.
  10. This is why guaranteed contracts suck, especially for teams like the Brewers. They tried to do the right thing and paid a guy who had performed well. They rewarded him for success, and then when he failed (abysmally), they basically had no real recourse. If he feels like he was truly pressured, maybe he could actually show some genuine remorse for his poor play and give some of that contract back to the Brewers. Of course, you almost never see a professional athlete do such a thing.
  11. Hopefully the Brewers will keep him down past September 1st. It's completely justified based on his play in MLB this season, and his play at AAA thus far. Melvin had better make the wise business decision and keep him in Nashville, or I will be extremely angry.
  12. Yeah, and if I'm not mistaken there's going to be plenty of big basher types on the FA market again...Fielder may be better than most or all of them, though. It doesn't mean we can expect a king's ransom for him, necessarily.
  13. brewizard, I was speaking more in terms of the overall franchise (attendance, ratings, merchandise sales, general awareness in the state and media, etc), not just the team on the field. It's readily apparent they are playing very poorly right now, but that doesn't mean the overall health of the franchise is bad. The team has made tremendous leaps and bounds in those areas I cited. Also, I feel you are being blindly pessimistic right now...I don't think Jeff Suppan's performance will determine that the team will be sub-.500 for the next ten years. We only have him under contract for one more season (then a buyout, I believe). He can't hurt us after that.
  14. This is going to be a very important off-season for the Brewers. I'm afraid that if Melvin is still at the helm, he isn't going to make the changes necessary to make this club turn the corner after a disappointing season. I'm afraid he'll be too conservative. The window of opportunity isn't closed yet, but it could be very soon if significant changes do not occur. I'd like to see Mark Attanasio relieve Melvin of his duties and find someone who is going to be more aggressive, and show more of a desire to think outside the box...rather than stay with the players we have now and make only middling improvements to the rotation. I would also like to see Attanasio commit to being equally aggressive, and make a strong push to make the playoffs again within the next couple seasons. This is partly a separate issue, but then again, they are intertwined. It would also determine the fate of Ken Macha, and ultimately, who the next GM will be. Melvin has had a solid tenure as GM...he's been here for 7 years and taken the team from abysmal to respectable. He will easily land on his feet with a different organization. He has even admitted that his strengths lie in rebuilding bottom barrel clubs. The Brewers are no longer bottom barrel. I think it's time for someone new to take the team to the next level, though.
  15. Hall is blaming "contract pressure" for his two and half lousy seasons after his MVP year. Kind of sounds like excuse making to me. I would think if someone paid me $24 million or so to do a job, I'd feel no pressure at all. Then again, I'm not a professional athlete.
  16. Escobar has played in a total of 7 games so far this year....I don't think a week's worth of starts is exactly enough to give any kind of determination on what kind of player he is. The bottom line is that the offense will need to be populated by some young, cheap players if the team is going to spend money to acquire good pitching, or have any hope to re-sign Fielder in the near future.
  17. The thing is, if they really wanted to give him, say, a 5 year/$100 million contract, they probably could...there will be a ton of money coming off the books after next season.
  18. I'll quote a song to relate how I feel at this point: No fun my babe, no fun No fun to hang around Feeling that same old way No fun to hang around Freaked out...for another day. No fun my babe, no fun No fun to be around Walking by myself No fun to be alone In love...with nobody else ie. Yeah, I'm sick of it. I wanted more than one year of the playoffs. I thought we turned a corner last year, and apparently I was wrong. This team has done things "the right way", but seems to be punished for it.
  19. I would guess none will happen at this point. I would suggest no one get their hopes up too much right now.
  20. Boy, Gary Sheffield is unhappy? That's a real damn shame.
  21. To me it's not a big deal as I don't have a ton of time to sit down and play it right now anyway...it would just be nice to know roughly when it will be arriving.
  22. I don't think the Ryan Braun concern is an issue...he probably is fully aware Prince will likely be gone in a couple years.
  23. Since this topic came up again in last night's IGT, I was curious. I e-mailed Tom Haudricourt and this is what he sent back: "I would hope they'd start cutting back on his pitches soon. With the team out of the race, they need to take care of the kid. I'll talk to Macha about it." So, maybe an answer will be forthcoming. I appreciate Mr. Haudricourt at least looking into it.
  24. DougJones makes a good point. I think it goes to show that it can be dangerous to become too enamored with prospects, especially your own team's. The burnout rate is just often too high.
  25. I think what they meant was that if he had attacked anyone but the mayor, he wouldn't have been arrested or be getting so much attention. The latter part is right, but I would hope not the former.
