  1. I wouldn't cry over seeing Kendall leave at this point, but who replaces him? I don't think they're confident Salome is MLB ready yet, and Rivera isn't exactly a big step up.
  2. Parra's improvement could be credited to Bosio, though, who worked with him during his AAA stint. Hoffman is a future Hall of Famer, so I'm not sure how much credit you can give Castro there. Coffey was already looking good last September.
  3. That could actually be construed as assault. I hope they find the guy, book him, and charge him. Seems like a typical Cubs fan though. The worst is he wasted a good beer...oh wait, it was probably Old Style or something. Still, it's the principle of the thing. I don't feel sorry for the "wrong" guy who got tossed...watching the video, it's clear he was laughing it up. Typical boorish Wrigley fans.
  4. I was going to say, if he was the starting third baseman, I'm sure people would whine about how his bad defense negates his offense. It's not like McGehee has been a slouch this season, either.
  5. I think the position of third base coach is so far down on the list of this team's problems right now that it doesn't matter who you have pacing around by the hot corner. It's "Fischer", by the way.
  6. I think in the case of the Beatles and Stones it's because they were influenced by early American rockabilly and blues type stuff, and covered a lot of that material early on. In U2's early records, I think Bono actually did sort of retain a bit of his Irish accent, but maybe he just changed his style as the band matured as a whole. Coldplay, probably because they suck (OK, maybe not, I just don't care for them).
  7. I tend to doubt that the Yankees are looking to move Rodriguez to a DH role at this point. Is his defense really that bad this season?
  8. What deal? Branyan was a free agent and wanted to be a starter, something the Brewers couldn't give him. Honestly, this is his first year he's basically stayed healthy the whole season, and is probably playing a bit above his head. Holding that against Doug Melvin is kind of hard to swallow for me.
  9. I agree, but if you're thinking JJ's party will whine...that's not the Brewers fault. See, exactly. I just don't get why, if the Brewers can get something positive out of all this mess, and give them a stronger chance to actually improve the club long term, they shouldn't do it? There is no good reason other than, "Well, they should be nice to JJ and let him leave after one more season instead of two." That is just not very good business reasoning at all. He hasn't played well, and has basically had two good seasons out of five. It's not like he has a really strong track record that will have pundits screaming at the Brewers to bring him back early. The only exception might be if Escobar really struggles to put up better numbers than JJ was, but that shouldn't be too difficult at this point.
  10. Hell, when is the last time they won just three games in a row? Actually, it was that June 15-17th series where they swept the Indians. Almost two months ago. Sad and disappointing.
  11. Somewhere along the line you have to use you good players as players not poker chips. That's a very good point that gets constantly ignored. It seems like some want almost constant turnover of the roster every 3-4 years. That doesn't leave much time to actually contend before you have a new group trying to excel at the big league level.
  12. How is it random when they got two guys barely batting over .500 off the roster? The fact is the team's pitching is the worst in the league by several different measurements. Something was going to have to give. No, it's not all Billy Castro's fault, but you can't fire the entire pitching staff. Baseball coaches and managers know that going into their jobs, they may very well have to take the fall if their team under performs. It sucks, but that's how it goes.
  13. I am starting to reeeeeally get leery of having Attanasio as our owner. Yeah, it's a real shame. We have an owner who wants to win, and holds people accountable. I love all the moves that happened yesterday (well, Castro getting fired is so middling to me, I don't really care too much either way, but I'll take Chris Bosio and see what he can do). If Attanasio had to make Melvin get off his butt and make some things happen, that's fine with me.
  14. And, while it's a minor reason, showing fans they are still trying to win may ensure extra tickets sales, pushing attendance over 3 million again. I'm not sure of the revenue ramifications there, but it has to be a plus.

  20. I don't care. I'm just sick of my team being the proverbial you-know-what in the jailhouse. JJ has been good for basically two years out of five. It's not like he's Derek Jeter and been with the team for 15 years. These calls to be insanely loyal to Hardy are unwarranted, IMHO.
  21. $3 million yet this year? That sounds rather high. He'd at least eat some innings and maybe prevent injuries to this decimated bullpen, I guess.
