  1. Homer on WAUK keeps talking about some challenge they have where you have to eat 10 saltine crackers (mouth dry before and after) in a minute. Supposedly it's impossible.
  2. I would say the Pirates were winners for the most part, aside from giving up Nyjer Morgan. I think it was obvious their current crop, while solid, was not a strong enough core to build a competitive team around.
  3. I wonder if Kendall would be willing to settle for a cheaper one year deal, or maybe a one year with a club option for a second year (with a decent buyout). I would think he realizes he's wearing down and not hitting as well as he used to. On the other hand, he'd be a great mentor to have around for Salome/Lucroy.
  4. I'm confused by your post. Are you saying Seattle asked for those five players, or Boston actually offered them in exchange for Felix Hernandez?
  5. Gamel could be moved to RF I know this keeps coming up...but do we have any indication that the Brewers are considering something like this? The announcers on yesterday's TV broadcast got a question on this (re: Gamel being moved to right field) and down played any chance of that happening.
  6. Yeah, if I had to give Gamel up to get Felix Hernandez, I'd do it. I wonder why the deal ultimately fell through...I'm guessing Zdurencik probably felt he could get more suitors in the off-season. Though I'm not totally sure why he would consider trading him in the first place, either. He isn't a FA until 2012.
  7. I agree. I don't get why they acquired Rolen either. Maybe they're figuring they can get better value for some of their pitching in the off-season. Realistically, they should look at 2010 as a rebuilding year. They should probably start that process by firing Dusty Baker, too.
  8. I think the fact is, at the end of the season, the Brewers will have a bit of a surplus of infielders. They will need to deal from that position of strength if they will have any hope of acquiring quality starting pitching for next season. McGehee makes sense to deal, because he probably has a lower upside than a player like Gamel or Weeks and may be more of a health risk (I guess Weeks arguably could be, though). I'm not gung ho about trading him, due to the great year he's been having, but if you can deal him for a decent starting pitcher, I don't think there's any real question that Melvin would have to pull the trigger at that point.
  9. Yeah, I agree with JohnBriggs. Teams are really valuing younger, cheaper players these days. They aren't going to throw a lot of money at a CF in his mid 30's.
  10. So, will Hall start in RF again tonight after that performance last night? "Brewers are 1-0 with Hall starting in right field", as one poster on the JSOnline blog pointed out.
  11. Then, he'd become a free agent after the season (his contract allows him to do that) False. He could ask to get traded after this season (if Toronto had traded him, which obviously they didn't), but he wouldn't be a free agent until after next season. However, seeing how he had a no trade clause to begin with, I doubt he would have approved a trade and then turned around and demanded another trade less than three months later. All water under the bridge at this point anyway.
  12. http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118006765.html?categoryid=14&cs=1 The "Futurama" characters won't be sporting new voices after all. The five "Futurama" cast members -- John DiMaggio, Billy West, Katey Sagal, Maurice LaMarche and Tress MacNeille -- have just sealed pacts with 20th Century Fox TV to return to the show as it reboots with 26 new episodes for Comedy Central. Both the actors and 20th are believed to have found a compromise. Move comes after 20th put out a casting call earlier this month to find replacement actors for the show.
  13. That's fine...but I've used the same logic and said you can't pencil all these youngsters into the lineup next year and expect the team to contend, as well.
  14. I kind of hope so. I'd love to hear his comments on the Brewers' performance so far this season.
  15. I love how Hall went 4-for-14 in AAA so now is starting tonight in a position he's never played before. Is Macha trying to prove to Melvin that Hall is absolutely useless or what?
  16. I'm not sold on the idea that a Rivera/Salome platoon would necessarily be that much better than Kendall mostly starting with Rivera as the backup.
  17. If we actually were about to trade for Felix Hernandez, and it fell through at the last minute, well...that's pretty disappointing any way you slice it.
  18. Yeah, I agree. After his strong season, McGehee could likely bring back something really useful to fill another need. It's obvious they probably see Gamel as the long term 3B anyway (since Melvin didn't trade him). I would not want to risk holding onto Casey too long, and seeing him become another Bill Hall.
  19. I actually e-mailed Tom Haudricourt about Jenkins a couple weeks ago. I was just curious if he had any insight on why no team had picked him up yet this year. His response was pretty blunt...basically saying it was obvious to other teams that the Phillies wouldn't have released him if they thought he had any real value left as a player. Sadly, I think Jenkins is probably in forced retirement at this point. Maybe he'll luck out and get invited to spring training for some team next year, and come on with another team if he plays well enough. I wouldn't be against the idea of the Brewers giving him a chance to retire as a Brewer...he did stick it out with some pretty crummy Brewers teams when he probably could have left for greener pastures elsewhere. Maybe if nothing else he could eventually be a coach or something in the Brewers system.
  20. Yeah, I can't see Hall being the starting shortstop next year. It's either going to be Hardy or Escobar, period.
  21. The thing with Sheets is that even if he could be convinced to come back to Milwaukee (and that seems like a very remote possibility at this point), you really don't know what to expect from him. He had a serious injury, and has had a lengthy rehab. There's no way knowing if he'll ever regain his previous form. It's not like he's getting any younger, either. I don't see anyone worth seriously pursuing on that list. Lackey seems like the biggest fish on there, but I'm guessing he re-signs with the Angels. I think Melvin's best bet will be to pursue a trade for someone currently under contract.
  22. Wow, this makes me mad...we sure could have used him...not this year, down the line. There's no way Doug gets a better pitcher than him in the off season. None. Very disappointing end to the deadline, imho.
  23. You're probably absolutely right on that one. Then again if we had that upper level pitching, we may have just held onto it and waited for some of those arms to be ready next season.
  24. "MLB Network: LHP Luke French and LHP Mauricio Robles." - MLB Trade Rumors posting. I admit to not knowing much about either of those two, but it doesn't sound like the Tigers had to give up too much...
