  1. No team is looking to give up that much good young pitching right now. I doubt there is a team out there that will give up to quality upper rotation (and I'm assuming young, that's what you mean, right?) for one slugger, no matter how good he is, that they will only control for two more seasons. This idea of trading Fielder is completely fan generated, so it's almost pointless to talk about. Melvin is not going to trade him unless bowled over by an offer, and that's not going to happen right now. He's not going to shop him around this off-season, and thus lose any leverage he might have in a potential trade. There is no one waiting in the wings in the Brewers organization that will come close to replacing Fielder's offensive production. Please don't suggest Gamel, as he is not close to the hitter that Fielder is. We are talking about a player who, if Albert Pujols was not in the NL, would probably be the the MVP this season. He's 25 and nowhere close to declining yet, so this idea that we'd be "selling high" on him by trading him with two years left of team control is ludicrous. He has improved on his glove work as well. Yeah, can't wait to see him hit his peak years with another team, can we? Sorry for ranting, but I just hate this idea of trading Fielder the more and more it gets suggested.
  2. Plus Hughes has been excellent in their bullpen, and they could convert him back to being a starter again. I don't think they'll trade him at this point.
  3. I don't think Bannister is really worth giving up that much for.
  4. No, for some people it's just the principal of the thing. I think they should leave the tax on and put it towards replacing the Bradley Center (ie. building a new facility for the Bucks). Of course, I don't live in the five county area...but I wouldn't care that much a bout that extra few cents on purchases.
  5. Yeah, I came here in either '03 or '04 (don't remember exactly) from the brewers.com fan forum (seems like that was a popular timeframe for people coming here, I guess). I got sick of all the lame joke posters over there and general lack of any solid information. I actually did hear about this place on that other forum, though. Someone said something like "Go to brewerfan.net if you want some real information." Glad I made the switch.
  6. Well, it's not like they couldn't afford to pay him an extension, especially with his potential contract value probably being a little diminished after this season.
  7. I'm not sure about his defense, but he's still pretty young. Only 24 years old this season.
  8. "When you charge more for something, you generally sell less of it." People just won't park in the parking lot anymore, or they'll go to less Brewers games. I hate extra fees and "hidden costs". As someone who already invests a good deal in Brewers tickets, and doesn't even live in the Milwaukee area, I hate this idea.
  9. Maybe this latest incident will inspire the team to consider trading Fielder for pitiching during the off-season. I sure hope not. Trade him now without gaining a very significant offensive player, and this team is finished.
  10. Well, Clark had that one pretty good season at least.
  11. I'm pretty sure that's the infamous "eephus pitch."
  12. Only 4 games back now, and back to .500. The Crew showed some fire last night, and I hope they can keep playing like that. It would be nice to put a damper on whatever playoff hopes Houston may still have. Really, playoffs or not, if the Brewers can just stay competitive the rest of the year and keep things interesting, I'll be really happy, given how miserable the middle portion of this season has been.
  13. Tom Haudricourt was on the D-List yesterday and was commenting on how Hardy just looks like he's been defeated and given up on the season at this point. I hope the Brewers only play him sporadically from here on out, unless he gets hot. The lineup is so much better with McGehee and Counsell in it right now.
  14. The impression I get from Witrado is someone who doesn't care too much about his current job. Maybe he's planning on leaving the Journal-Sentinel soon?
  15. Hardy is not in the lineup tonight. I really like it. I hope Melvin makes sure that happens all season next year.
  16. Maybe they should start McClung or some other reliever. Get the plunking over with and then insert Looper.
  17. Fielder never should have been in the game in the 9th down 17-4. No need to risk even a stupid accidental sprain of the knee or ankle getting a spike caught or have a Yo Gallardo happen. Just stupid of Macha even having him in the game at that point. I think this opinion is kind of ridiculous. A player could just as easily get hurt in the 1st inning as the 9th. I think you're really grasping at straws to justify some anger at Ken Macha.
  18. My view would be I'd rather just see them try to win. I'm all for protecting guys, but I think you just let this one slide and focus on trying to win a series against the best team in baseball. That would be a better revenge than some pointless plunking.
  19. A lot of people on this site have done nice things for me over the years and this is a very small way of repaying some of that good will back. I had tickets to this game but already sold them off on Stubhub. Have a preferred parking pass for this game that I'll mail out to whoever messages me first. Please make sure you can use it before messaging me, though. EDIT: Pass has been claimed.
  20. You did better than me...I spell asleep in the middle of the first inning (slept terribly the night before). Maybe in retrospect I'm glad I did.
  21. I agree with AJAY. The Brewers front office needs to take serious stock of where they are at, and not just hope that the young guys come up and make an instant impact (Escobar, Gamel, etc) and that guys like Hardy and Hart play better. They also need to get some legitimate upper rotation pitching that will actually keep us competitive most of the season. Stretching the payroll for a year or two and then maybe scaling back after Prince is likely gone wouldn't be the end of the world financially, I wouldn't think. With the Cubs and Cards starting to get longer in the tooth, it would be nice to make a real push at dominance, if only for a couple seasons.
  22. http://cbs2.com/video/?id=110706@kcbs.dayport.com A bit of video of last night's events.
  23. You know what? I wish UZR was never cited around here...at least in the Major League forum. All it does is start a debate about whether or not UZR is a good statistic, and frankly it gets kind of old. I think McGehee is a decent enough fielder, based on watching the guy play. Is that fair enough to say?
  24. Cory Provus mentioned on Brewers 360 this morning that Hong Chi Kuo struck out Prince earlier in the game and seemed to make some sort of taunting gesture at Prince...so it's probable that it wasn't just Mota's unnecessary drilling that set him off. I hope this "fires them up" just enough to get a win today after an ugly loss. A series win against LA would be pretty nice, especially at this point.
  25. I'd like to see Melvin trade for Saltalamachia, personally. I don't think he'd cost a lot, and still has some upside.
