  1. Can someone clarify if the Brewers would be likely to offer Washburn arbitration after this season? Would he be a type A free agent? I know this hasn't mattered in the past with him, but since he's from Wisconsin, maybe they could even resign him to a reasonable contract.
  2. Yeah, it doesn't make sense. If we're going to trade Escobar, we better be getting back Felix Hernandez or someone of that caliber.
  3. That's the frustrating thing. Just a couple more wins so far would make the outlook of the season look a whole lot different at this point.
  4. Who's talking about prospects? The rumbling seems to be Hardy being the one who would get traded.
  5. Probably can't necessarily count on him being back this season, it's seeming like.
  6. Counsell is hitting like .300 with an OBP around .370. How anyone can complain about him right now is beyond me.
  7. Yeah, I'm sorely tempted to post a link, but I'd fear some of the posters that might show up here.
  8. I can't believe Macha would have any confidence in Villy as a starter at this point.
  9. Well...I believe he tested positive for a banned stimulant, which I'm not sure falls under the classification of a PED.
  10. I'm really scratching my head trying to figure out why this thread took such an odd turn.
  11. A lot of times in the media industry (just like others), it's not what you know, it's who you know. I don't know about him specifically, but it would not surprise me if that is the case.
  12. I think trading Hardy for Washburn straight up would be ridiculous. I realize again that Washburn is having a good season, but I can't see trading an All-Star caliber shortstop on a down year for a two and a half month rental of an aging starter with unspectacular stuff.
  13. As far as the topic at hand...let's say the Brewers can win again today and the Cardinals lose again (knock on wood). Suddenly the Brewers are only 1.5 games out of first place. As we've said before, the next month should be an easy schedule for the Brewers. They could easily gain some steam going into September (which granted will be tougher...but they'll just have to play well against division opponents). Melvin is in a really tough position right now. It's too bad the Brewers couldn't have played even just a bit better over the past few weeks. It would be obvious that an acquisition would have to be made, but right now it's really tough to tell how good or bad this team is. They're a game over .500 which isn't stellar, yet they're still in close contention in a mediocre and winnable division.
  14. It's not like Braun/Cameron/Hart is exactly a chopped liver defense right now, either. I could see trading for Washburn, but I sure wouldn't want to give up much to get him.
  15. Yeah, I get your point. I used to think the peopled that ragged on Witrado in that blog were being silly, but more and more I'm seeing that most of them are basically correct about the quality of work he routinely puts in.
  16. Yeah, it's about the level of work you'd expect from a college intern.
  17. Well, I'd assume someone would be called up so they at least have a bat on the bench regardless...so I would guess either Iribarren or Gamel would be called up to replace him.
  18. The D-Backs are apparently looking for a pitching prospect, which makes it tough for the Brewers. I wonder if they would look at other options, though.
  19. Honestly I wonder if, given some of his comments in that interview, he wouldn't be amenable to a stint down in AAA? I think he realizes he won't get better with limited playing time, but also realizes he hasn't been productive and doesn't have a real role with the Brewers right now.
  20. Would it make sense for the Brewers to look at Qualls? Suppposedly the D-Backs are shopping their current closer around. While his ERA is around 3.5, his WHIP is pretty low. With McClung out with an injury, I'm wondering if this would be worth exploring. Supposedly the Brewers are still talking with Arizona about Doug Davis. Maybe a package for Davis and Qualls could be worked out? Qualls would still be under team control through next year.
  21. "i hope the angles get halladay" I hear the Saxons may make a play for him.
  22. Yeah, I can't believe it's the next morning and it hasn't actually been fixed completely yet. Witrado gets ripped a lot on that blog, and maybe rightfully so.
  23. Bill Hall sounds like a broken baseball player, mentally at least. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/51606002.html "It's disappointing," the Milwaukee Brewers third baseman said. "There's so many words, so many emotions. It's disappointment in myself. "I feel like with the way things are going, they don't have any confidence in me. I feel like I can do nothing to help this team right now."
  24. "9th inning: Trevor Hoffman came on to nail down Gallardo's victory, his first of the month in five starts. Brewers 4, Braves 0." Great reporting by Anthony Witrado on the JSOnline blog. Sheesh.
  25. "Injuries are always held against General Managers fair or not." That's not even remotely true. I think most fans (aside from a minority of irrational people), understand athletes get hurt and there's usually not a reasonable way to predict when or if they will get injured.
