  1. He's still very good defensively, but doesn't exactly offer a lot with the bat.
  2. In retrospect, I wonder if in the mid 2000's, Melvin was undervaluing some of the guys we traded, given some of the underwhelming returns.
  3. Really? That's not how I remember it at all. Someone more in tune with the minor league forum can probably tell the true story, though.
  4. Looks like it's been "optimized" for a mobile or tablet view, but I agree it looks bad.
  5. It does seem odd, and the current snow fall in our area hasn't been that bad. Hopefully it's a sign that this winter won't be quite as brutal as last year's was.
  6. re: Ryan Braun, he was basically the worst every day player, in terms of defense, to ever play third base. Leaving him at third base would have been "nice" in terms of a roster standpoint, but he was way too much of a liability there. He's even admitted it himself, after the fact. ("I'll play anywhere except third base...that didn't work out too well.") I agree 100% that letting Molitor walk in free agency was completely the wrong move. Selig should have pulled rank on Bando and told him to get the man re-signed. I remember reading how Bud was completely shocked when he found out Molitor had signed with Toronto. The other moves mentioned go into the "What were they thinking?" category. The Lee trade in particular was a total short term move that looks really pointless through the lens of time. I think I liked getting Cordero at the time, but in retrospect the team might have been better off letting El Caballo leave in free agency and taking whatever comp pick they would have received.
  7. He was probably best known to Brewers fans for singing the National Anthem every Opening Day for the past several seasons. He was also an actor and a World War II veteran. Our condolences to the Attanasio family. More here in this piece from Tom Haudricourt: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/joe-attanasio-father-of-brewers-owner-dies-b99419580z1-287480551.html
  8. I don't get to keep up with new music as much as I used to, but one of my favorites was: The Pixies - Indie Cindy
  9. I'll always take a house next door that is fixed up and looking good, versus one that is in disrepair. At our old house, we had neighbors next door who were nice people, but they were renting. They didn't exactly do a great job keeping the place up. The house had a gravel driveway, and it constantly had weeds growing in it, toys strewn about, etc. At one point there was a tree growing in the driveway, right along our shared fence line. One day I asked if I could cut the tree down, and they said yes. I removed the tree, cut down all the weeds, and cleaned everything up (including removing a bunch of trash that was hidden in the weeds). The woman who lived there was appreciative, but they never did anything to maintain it after that, and within months it was overgrown with weeds again. Glad I don't have to look at that driveway anymore.
  10. An article on this page says that Aoki is a spokesperson for Magniflex, so that probably explains why these exist: http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2014/03/11/Marketing-and-Sponsorship.aspx
  11. I know from experience that tampons also should not be flushed, even though the packaging says it can be. Women always get mad when you bring that fact up, though.
  12. The game is just totally awash in cash right now. You have to wonder how much of that is flowing to a team like the Brewers though, relatively speaking.
  13. This is going to be the first time I've woken up in my own home on Christmas morning since 2001 or 2002 (I can't remember if I went up with my wife when we were engaged, but we were married by the following Christmas in 2003). I'm rather happy about it. I know it is a change for my wife, but it was time for a new tradition.
  14. The only other popular alternative seems to be booze, if you know they drink.
  15. That makes sense. I could see a scenario where the Marlins or other teams play a small amount of games in Havana on an annual basis.
  16. The idea of San Juan being a relocation destination has been batted around in the past, and it was determined the local economy just isn't viable enough to support an MLB team. I can't imagine Havana would look much better.
  17. I would try to keep it general and not get into specifics. Maybe you could say something like, "I didn't feel I was a good fit there because I had different work philosophies than some of the management there, but I did learn some valuable skills that I know would translate well to this position."
  18. That happens a lot. Yeah, it's just never quite happened to me in this fashion. The funny thing is that she didn't get why I didn't appreciate her request.
  19. Had an employee resign on Tuesday afternoon (two week notice) to go a direct competitor right down the street with us. OK, fine...more money, things change, I get it. Never gave me a chance to counter offer, but oh well. Then the same person emailed me yesterday to ask if she could take a vacation starting on what would have been today, through the 26th, which was supposed to be her final day. We're a small company...I need to interview, hire, and train her replacement. Yeah, that request didn't exactly sit well for me. I guess she did get her vacation, just a bit earlier than she expected.
  20. I didn't see the game last night, but heard Parker's injury looked pretty bad. Apparently he sprained his left knee.
  21. "The Selig Experience" sounds like the name of a terrible ska-punk band. At first I was pretty skeptical when I heard about this (and I've been noted as a big Selig fan/apologist on this forum), but after checking out that link, it actually looks pretty cool.
  22. Sounds like a neat idea. I'll have to take a look at this more later.
  23. Sounds like most people here don't mind if they won't be back. Like I said, I'm ambivalent on their existence. Don't bother me being there, but I probably won't miss them if they're gone, either. I agree with the general sentiment that there is too much "stuff" crammed in between innings. It's kind of like sensory overload. I'm sure MLB teams see it as a way to keep casual fans engaged in the ballpark experience, though.
  24. A name before my time that I wasn't familiar with. Sounds like he had a very solid career, though.
