Telly Hughes had said the game was being rescheduled for August 31st, but I guess that was premature. I think I'm glad they're getting it out of the way much sooner. .
I kind of doubt that one. I think for the most part the discussion on here has been pretty restrained. You should go see what some other boards are saying about this if you want to see ban-worthy material.
Again, no one is saying he should have expected nothing, or walked away with nothing. You're putting words in other people's mouths, Patrick. As far as your final sentence there, that would not have happened. The ball clearly meant nothing to HY, and he was determined to get something for it regardless.
Come on...that's a bit over the line. Like I said, I think it's OK he initially asked for that stuff (although asking for a signed item from a completely different player was probably a tad demeaning), but when he got turned down, he probably could have acquiesced more quickly than he did. His actions coupled with his comments on his blog, and his past track record, just leave me with a really negative impression of this person. I don't think that's unfair.
Well, I don't think anyone is really disputing that HY couldn't get something for it. I don't think anyone is even saying he was out of line to ask for a Ramirez bat (or whatever) initially. I think it's just the general sense of entitlement and bad attitude he displayed in this thing that has really rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, coupled with his public track record in such matters. Plus the fact that it's giving Milwaukee a bad rap in the media and blogosphere does not help. Given the name of this website, that shouldn't be too surprising.
Because there's such a thing as showing class and being a nice guy. Clearly HY wasn't interested in that, which is his prerogative. Let's not pretend that this ball really meant a thing to HY, either, judging by what he's said on his blog and the fact he already has a huge ball collection. He was only wearing a Marlins hat as a ruse, it's not like he's actually some die hard Marlins fan who's been following Coghlan through his minor league run.
Pretty funny episode last night. Michael's skit with Holly was hilarious, and the way the Buffalo branch found out they were closing had me rolling. It was good to see them finally bring the Holly character back, even if it was just for one episode...though Michael's monologue at the end made it sound like we might see her again.
I think he wanted signed bats from Fielder, Weeks, Hardy, and Braun, or something along those lines. Again, he didn't want anything from Jenkins, he wanted the more valuable stuff (arguably). HY claimed later he wanted those items "for his kids."
Well, and as mentioned before, he's not killing people or selling drugs either, so I guess that makes it OK. Usually this kind of logic is used to justify something others find blatantly distasteful, though.
Maybe they just feel like since they haven't been on the Brewers the majority of their careers, they're not comfortable doing it. Then again, it's not like Cameron is a life long Brewer and he started the thing.
I don't know how you can really say "He was never given an opportunity to succeed." Nelson won his job by given the chance to prove himself in spring training, but he was never going to be a regular starter on this team. In the small amount of starts he did get, he didn't do much, and he was mainly supposed to be a pinch hitter. He did nothing to contribute in that role either. The Brewers are a contending team and can't necessarily hold onto a struggling marginal player, waiting for him to get his act together. It's too bad, but it's the reality of professional sports. I don't think there's much to worry about with Gamel...everything indicates that he is and will be a much better player than Nelson.
Also, the whole "ball hawk" thing seems to be a misnomer that these guys have given to themselves, since the term used to be applied to skilled defensive fielders. I think "ball hog" would be much more apt, especially in this case.
The problem with that is I really doubt Tampa would be willing to switch leagues and give up all the revenue they get from the visiting Yankees and Red Sox. Also, I think Houston has had the option to switch before and has been opposed to it (though I think they should and would do well in your proposed layout).
Exactly. I agree with Fido 100%. I guess for those few defending HY here, I would ask: I can understand if you think what he's doing is within his rights, but do you think it's really cool and admirable? Is it something you'd want to be publicly associated with? I bet the vast majority would say "No." I think that speaks volumes about this guy who is supposedly such a huge Brewers fan.
