  1. Someone on the JSOnline blog commented "Sometimes you have to take one step back to take two steps forward." Maybe last night was a case of that, as Hall will have nothing to complain about after not coming through yet again against right handed pitching.
  2. I missed most of last night's game, but that final AB had to be one of the worst ABs I've ever seen from anyone on the Brewers. It was like you could tell exactly how it would go. Three pitches and he was done. I know you can't judge a player on one AB, or one game for that matter, but it was a pretty pathetic showing.
  3. I know it wouldn't be fun to do, but if we had to include Manny Parra (instead of Jeffress), I think I would still do it.
  4. Whoops, no, I didn't. I need to edit that original post anyway. I meant Jeffress. Using Chrome had my formatting all screwed up, too. Edit: Fixed the original post now.
  5. Since this is being talked about anyway, I figured may as well start a thread on it. So the Brewers and Indians obviously had that huge deal last year that brought CC Sabathia to Milwaukee in exchange for Matt LaPorta and some other prospects. The Brewers could possibly use another piece at 2B with Weeks being injured, and I think most would like to see the team acquire another starting pitcher to help Gallardo carry the load. Here's my idea: Brewers get: Cliff Lee Mark DeRosa Indians get: Jeremy Jeffress Tim Dillard What do you think? Is this realistic at all? I don't think Jeffress is going to turn into anything really great, and I'd rather try to get something for him now. The Indians would also get a serviceable pitcher that can help them now, and one who might develop into a regular dependable type of starter.
  6. I thought this was going to be about Prince Fielder going back to meat.
  7. Weeks' surgery reported to have gone "extremely well" according to Gord Ash.
  8. Some more speculation on Peavy to Brewers from Sports Illustrated today, at least according to a poster on the JSOnline blog. I won't bother quoting it as there's nothing in there that's new. Edit: Hey! 5000 posts!
  9. Yeah, I'd have to agree. Locking up Gallardo would be kind of nice, as it would give long term stability at the top of the rotation.
  10. The problem isn't a lack of will...it's that some big market team will give him some ridiculous 8 year/$120 million contract or something that the Brewers won't possibly be able to match. Satan, er, I mean Scott Boras, will ensure it.
  11. That was a big pet peeve of mine during all the off-season hot stove analysis. It's like they just looked at the roster from the end of last year and said "Oh, these two aren't back, this team is going to suck." It's like the kind of writing you imagine some bag-eyed beat writer turning in on a cocktail napkin at 2 AM, right before the printing deadline.
  12. One nice thing is that in the past, I think the Brewers almost "played down" to teams that were beneath them talent-wise, or that were struggling. Now they seem to have something resembling a killer instinct, where they know they can win, and aren't just trying not to lose badly. It's refreshing.
  13. Would Melvin part with someone like Tim Dillard? He's been pitching well in AAA last I checked. DeRosa's line is only .242/.312/.412 right now. I'd love to see something swung where we could get a package of Cliff Lee and Mark DeRosa.
  14. I had them pegged as more like an 88 win team. I figured a lot of the offense under performed last year. I think they could achieve that at this point, but a key mid-season acquistion could push them over 90 wins quite easily.
  15. I'm a very casual Bucks fan...but I have to ask, is this team ever going to do anything but spin its wheels or what?
  16. I think I'll take that over people proclaiming that the team is dead and buried two weeks into the season, though.
  17. If I had to put something there, I'd go with a big wooden barrel. It would be a nod to the original Brewers logo, and can be associated with Miller if needed. You could still have water splash out of it and keep the Kalahari affiliation, too.
  18. Melvin pretty much shot down any talk of acquiring a 2B outside the organization, in a conversation with Haudricourt yesterday. You never know, though. The nice thing about getting DeRosa is that it would probably infuriate a lot of Cubbie fans.
  19. I tend to agree. While I don't think Bush is destined to fall apart anytime soon, I would rather see them focus on getting something done with Gallardo and/or possibly Manny Parra.
  20. Really? I always thought Jenkins was above average as a defender. He was capable of making some pretty spectacular dives and grabs. Just my opinion.
  21. Koskie's injury, along with Melvin basically being forced to trade Carlos Lee, really derailed what could have been a much more successful '06. Just one of those freak things no one could have predicted, though. Then again the Brewers had a ton of injuries that year aside from Koskie (Sheets, Ohka, Weeks...).
  22. Yeah...back in the day the Brewers also drafted Jason Giambi and Nomar Garciaparra. I'm not sure they ever had a realistic chance to sign either one.
  23. I guess it's not too surprising given it's Memorial Day against the Cards. I hope this doesn't mean Miller Park will be inundated with red. I would suggest trying stubhub.com for those still trying to get tickets. I just looked and plenty of tickets available on there for 5/25.
  24. I wouldn't be opposed to trading Escobar for the right player(s), I just question what they would do at SS after next year.
  25. Yeah, I knew they wore the Pilots jerseys at least once. I'm sure the Bears jersey will be an annual thing since MLB likes doing the Negro League tributes. I hope we don't get a Milwaukee Braves day again...it just looks weird seeing "the Braves" vs the Braves.
