  1. I have to wonder if long term, MLB is going to regret trying to shoehorn the former Expos into Washington DC. It seems like nothing is going right for that franchise, other than getting a new stadium built.
  2. Matt Vasgersian was on the D-List yesterday and he kind of poked fun of ESPN only catering to a handful of teams. He said something along the lines of "We make a point in our meetings to decide that we aren't going to lead off with a story about how Joba Chamberlain got a massage this morning, or how Mariano Rivera ran a couple laps around Yankee Stadium today." It is nice that MLB Network seems to get that they're supposed to cover all the teams.
  3. Ozzie was probably goading on the media a bit with that one. I kind of find that hard to believe.
  4. So does he wanna get traded or what? This whole situation is so bizarre.
  5. Well, the White Sox are kind of in the middle of the country. So not sure what the holdup is.
  6. Maybe it's part of a bigger deal for Jake Peavy. That should be in blue, but there's people on the JSOnline blog suggesting that. Guess it will never go away.
  7. Could be. I doubt they'd be sending down McGehee at this point.
  8. Maybe Melvin got sick of the constant Gwynn for Peavy rumors and just wanted to get Gwynn over to San Diego so he would never have to hear about that one again?
  9. Yeah, just saw that from MLB Trade Rumors as well. "While rumors continue to swirl about a possible Jake Peavy deal to the Chicago White Sox, the Padres have made another trade today to bring a local favorite home. Sources close to the situation have told 619sports.net that the Padres have acquired outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Jody Gerut. The deal has not yet been announced by the team but Gwynn Jr. has been informed of the trade. "
  10. Yeah, because when every team in MLB passed on him when he went through waivers, surely San Diego wants Tony Gwynn now, right?
  11. Yeah, I admit I looked, too. All this speculation takes me back to the "Dunn is coming! Wise and Turnbow just ran back into the clubhouse!" days...That one got silly pretty quick. "A radio station (with no call letters) reports..." etc.
  12. DeRosa is still playing in the Indians/Royals game going on right now, so I'm kind of doubting it's him...
  13. Haudricourt speculates it might be for a bench type.
  14. http://espn.go.com/chicago/story?id=4191562 That is making it sound like this is far from a done deal. Says Peavy would prefer to stay in the NL (which is probably smart on his part). It could just be a ploy to get the ChiSox to pick up his final year option, though.
  15. Got a tweet from Gord Ash that said there would be a press release on a transaction within the hour. Tom Haudricourt followed up, saying he expected it to be a smaller trade (and even said "no, it's not Peavy"), and that he was looking into it.
  16. I actually like this. While I would have loved Peavy on the Brewers _this year_, the long term commitment would have been really tough for them as a franchise. As long as he's not going somewhere in the NL Central, and especially out of the league, I'm happy.
  17. Not with his contract, unless the Brewers would want to eat some salary (which they won't).
  18. MLB Trade Rumors has a story up this morning about the Padres talking with the White Sox about a trade involving Peavy. That's interesting, as the ChiSox had never really been mentioned in connection with Peavy before.
  19. Right. And then he's off the books after this season. And of course if they trade someone currently on the roster for him, that may lower that number (around $3 million like you said) even further.
  20. Exactly. I have confidence that unlike Yost, Macha will not be sticking with a player who fails in certain situations indefinitely.
  21. On their radio show they use "donkey" as kind of a euphemism for idiots/losers/whatever. In this case it's more tongue in cheek. As far as the Bucket Brigade, Daron basically took that concept with himself to Arizona. They have something similar to that promotion now, "Sutt & Grace's Redheads".
  22. Well, again, with Mat Gamel on the team at this point, there's no good reason not to give him chances to play if Hall is going to put on displays like last night's game.
  23. Would I be able to get a bat signed? Does that count as a premium item? If so, I'd be in.
  24. Yeah, that is probably more realistic the more I think about it...I would still do it if I was running things (which of course I'm not). A trade like that would put the Brewers over the top for this year, and we'd still have Lee for next season.
  25. That's exactly what I was thinking. People are going to see that on TV and think Cardinals fans have taken over Miller Park.
