  1. I don't see how anyone can reasonably project Sheets to pitch at all in '09. It's already February, and most estimates say he won't be able to play for 9-10 months. That would put him into November at the earliest. Yeah, maybe he will make an amazing Gallardo-like recovery late in the season, but I really wouldn't hold my breath. The Brewers just aren't in the position where they can pay injured guys year in and year out just on the slim chance they can perform. We're not the Cubs.
  2. I admit I had never even heard of Fryer before this trade.
  3. I thought at first this was going to be an Onion headline or something. I'll admit I haven't read Moneyball, but I just can't see the appeal of this. I guess I personally think Billy Beane is a bit overrated in general.
  4. When I read the demo was available, I tried downloading it this morning, and boy, was it slow. I think after an hour of waiting, I was only up to just under 20%. Anyone having similar problems? I had to leave for work so I ended up turning off the PS3. Oh well, just have to resume it after work later, I guess.
  5. Yep, I definitely think you hit the nail on the head about the disadvantages the Brewers have. Hopefully when their TV deal is up in a couple more years, they get a ton of money from whoever ponies up to buy their TV rights, whether that's FSN or someone else. Maybe they could even look at starting their own network.
  6. Definitely agree. While I'll always watch the Super Bowl even if my team isn't in it, I doubt I would watch all the games if it was a best of 5 or 7 type playoff (which of course would never be feasible in football anyway) if the Packers weren't in it.
  7. I don't know...I could just imagine fans of other teams (like the Cubs) mocking it...you know, saying the Brewers are just trying to glom onto the history of the better team since most of the Brewers' history doesn't have much to celebrate. Personally, I wouldn't really care either way. Though I think most of the great Braves are honored on the "Walk of Fame" outside Miller Park, if I'm not mistaken. I know Matthews and Spahn are for sure.
  8. I'm shaking my head as to why my post was deleted yesterday. Anyway, like I tried to say, I think this off-season has shown how dangerous it is to plan on possible comp picks panning out. It's been a pretty rough off-season and I'm looking forward to spring training to at least kick in. Hopefully Gallardo and Parra both look good and we can forget about Ben Sheets for now.
  9. The Braves are the franchise, thus they retain the heritage, not the city of Milwaukee, unfortunately. The Brewers retiring the numbers of those players would just seem fake and corny.
  10. Well, I remember seeing reports that he would likely sign for as little as $5 - 6 million, given the current market. Now, maybe it would take more like $8MM/yr to get him, but I think that would still be worth it.
  11. I thought I remember Peavy's agent saying they would "look at all possible deals, and there won't be a teams list", or something like that, after the Cubs thing fell through?
  12. I'd probably rather have Manny for 1-2 years than Dunn for 3-4 as well, especially if you're a team like the Dodgers who were just in the post season and have a fairly strong chance to go back...but if you can get Dunn for 4 years at about the cost of Manny for 1, and Boras is still going to play those games when it's obvious there are no other serious suitors...well, I know which direction I would go if I was Ned Colletti at this point. I think that's the right tactic to take, too, Chorizo. The Dodgers should remember they're the ones holding the cards at this point. I seriously believe Manny needs the Dodgers more than they need him at this point. If worse comes to worst, they can sign Dunn or Abreu or someone like that for a fraction of the cost Boras is demanding.
  13. Ah, I see. Well, I'm not going to rush into changing phones at this point anyway. It's just a shame because another forum I frequent has a lo-fi mode you can access and even though that site is much more graphic intensive than BF.net, it loads extremely quickly in the lo-fi version. I think you can post from it as well.
  14. I think if I had to say today, I would agree, Chorizo. I just can't see anyone committing more than one year to him at this point. If they were going to, they probably would have by now. I mean, pitchers in catchers report in less than a week, right? Maybe Sheets' best option at this point is to just keep rehabbing (or whatever he is doing now at this point) and hope someone has interest come summer.
  15. Anyone know if the site (or websites in general) works better on a Blackberry, like the Curve? I have option to go from my Moto Q to one of those pretty soon.
  16. Our bill from Charter actually went _down_ a couple bucks per month, as of two or three months ago. I forget why, but Charter sent us a letter saying they were adjusting the rate on something (I don't remember what it was). Our bill has remained pretty much the same as we are "locked" into a promotional rate.
  17. They should have gone the Andy route and had Dwight attend corporate mandated therapy or something in order to keep his job. Dwight talking to a therapist would probably be gold.
  18. Yeah, like I said earlier, I'd be interested in playing. Just that I'm a newb to this stuff.
  19. Well, the most obvious route would be that Time Warner or some other cable company will buy them out, or at least buy out obvious areas like here in Wisconsin where they already provide service. I honestly can't complain about Charter much...I wish they would add more HD channels (basically all I watch now if I can help it), but other than that, I've had no problems with their products. Yeah, our bill is probably a bit high, but we get all their digital and HD channels, their DVR (which actually isn't bad now), high speed (10 meg) internet, and phone (which I need for my business). I think since we've been in this house, almost three years now, we've maybe had one or possibly two short outages.
  20. Boy, other than Teixeira (who would have gotten a huge payday regardless) and maybe Oliver Perez, he really hasn't done squat this winter. I guess you could argue Lowe got a pretty good deal too, but not exceptionally so.
  21. I know there's a few other Charter subscribers on this board, other than myself, so I thought some would be interested in this: http://atlanta.bizjournal...02/daily33.html?ana=yfcpc "Charter Communications is preparing to file bankruptcy, Reuters reported recently. The timing of a possible bankruptcy filing is not known and there is a possibility the company could negotiate a "prepackaged" bankruptcy with bondholders, unnamed sources told the news agency." Makes you wonder what will ultimately happen if they do file. Will they possibly be sold?
  22. MLB Trade Rumors has some interesting points up, including that the Nationals are pursuing Dunn. As far as Manny, Cashman came out and said that the Yankees aren't going after Manny at all. Really it seems to be down to the Dodgers and _maybe_ the Giants for him, but the Giants certainly aren't being aggressive at all. I think they're hoping the Dodgers get sick of dinking around with Boras and drop out, which would maybe leave things open for San Fran to swoop in and get him with no other potential suitors.
  23. Boy, with all these positive reports on the Brewers finances, you'd think they might be making money.
  24. Bernie looks kind of crazy with the green eyes there.
  25. I said "one of the first," but no big deal.
