  1. Public shaming of Parra? I viewed it as two guys getting into a bit of a scuffle in the middle of a long season. Nothing more, nothing less. A regrettable incident, but something that is bound to happen to any sports team once in a great while.
  2. Haudricourt has a new blog entry up saying that Counsell could be back with the Brewers, again in a utility infield type role. I guess it wouldn't be the worst move in the world if he is cheap enough.
  3. well, yeah. All the fans want to be able to say, "I was there!" when they unveiled another gaudy pennant on the catwalks celebrating the 2008 NL Wild Card. I suppose that should be in blue. I personally hope they do have some sort of sign commemorating the Wild Card win. It was a special season worth remembering.
  4. Offensively, Kent has had a much better career than Eckstein. I assume you're comparing them based on "style of play?"
  5. My only beef with Prince was his complaining last spring about being renewed for $670,000 (or whatever the exact figure was), when he had been offered a $60 million contract which he turned down. Now, was it his right to reject the contract offer? Absolutely. It's his career. But then to complain when the club renews you for what they see as a fair rate, when you knew that would happen...well, I can't see how he can legitimately complain about that. It just came off as whining on his part. Otherwise, I think he is a tremendous player. I think the weight issues get overblown just a bit...I look forward to him coming into spring training this year in better shape, and proving the naysayers wrong. I would also love to see the club try to buy out at least one or two years of his free agency. I don't look forward to the day when he is traded, if that comes.
  6. I don't know if you can use Nomar and "upside" in the same sentence. I would imagine he has very little if any upside at this point. It sounds like he's seriously debating retirement at this point.
  7. Well, you'd have to like the idea of a Kendall/Pudge platoon, at least.
  8. Personally, I almost think this two year deal makes it less likely he will be trading until before his last arby eligible year. Just a feeling. It's not like the Brewers should be in a rush to move him anyway.
  9. I guess what I"m wondering, if the Brewers offered Fielder a four year deal for a decent amount of money, would Boras automatically turn it down at this point?
  10. Can he play some OF too? If so, then it's maybe not a bad idea...if not, I don't see the point, really.
  11. The Brewers will definitely have a tall task in trying to find someone at least half as good as Jim Powell, that's for sure.
  12. Can someone clarify...is Fielder a free agent after '10 or after '11? Rotoworld says he isn't a free agent until 2012, but I'm not sure if that's right or not. Edit: Actually the salary listing on this site says we have him through 2011 as well...which makes me think it's not that big a deal if we only sign him to a two year deal at this point.
  13. I guess Weeks and Sheets are the only two who get passes for injuries around here from some people.
  14. Congratulations, Braves fans. You're getting one heck of an announcer.
  15. He was on the 15 day DL at one point. I think it was July or early August, I can't remember specifically. It was blamed as the reason he struggled towards the end of the year, as he was trying to pitch through injury.
  16. I also wonder how much of the complaining some players really here. I mean, Sheets doesn't strike me as the type perusing message boards like this, or listening to sports talk radio all the time. Yeah, he might have heard some booing once in a while at Miller Park, but what pitcher doesn't have to deal with booing from their own fans at certain points in their careers? It comes with making the big bucks.
  17. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/a...ey=hotstove2008&fext=.jsp Jeff Kent officially announced his retirement today after 17 seasons. All time 2B home run leader. I think he'll get into the Hall eventually.
  18. Yeah, for some reason the whole "Can the Yankees sign another Type A or not?" question hasn't really been definitively answered.
  19. Yeah, I really can't see Dunn batting 2nd...I would think he would bat 5th, or maybe even 4th (flipping spots with Fielder).
  20. His value should likely be closer to $4m though he'd never get that. I don't get what you can base that on. You say yourself he would never get that...so how can his "value" be about $4 million?
  21. I was just saying if he struggles in spring training due to coming off his injury this past year, or whatever. I'm not advocating that he be removed from the rotation unless absolutely necessary. I probably shouldn't have brought it up. I actually think Suppan still has value to the team.
  22. If Suppan really struggles in spring training, I could see the Brewers saying "Sorry, Jeff, it's for your own good," and sticking him in the pen. He wouldn't be happy about it, but I don't think they can afford to give out rotation spots based on salary with the limite depth they have.
  23. Gord Ash mentioned yesterday on 540 AM that he expected Prince to continue working on his "conditioning" this off season, which would help with his defense...I took that to mean he is working on getting in better shape, which can only help his defense. He also stated that Prince isn't the type of guy that wants to be "known as a one dimensional player." I hope he is right. I'd love to see Prince come in and prove the doubters wrong by doing a bit better than last season.
  24. Xellence...I do agree to a point...just note I said "if" they needed salary relief.
  25. I don't see how it is seen as a "slap in the face". He's still a young player with not much of a track record...also, this is the same team that had offered him a contract for ten times that amount, which he turned down.
