  1. Yeah, definitely nothing to cry about. While he was actually OK for the Brewers at times last year, his overall performance shouldn't be that hard to replace, hopefully with someone a bit cheaper (like Dillard as you mentioned).
  2. Then again, who could have reasonably predicted Hall would "fall off" as much as he has in the past two years? I didn't think he could necessarily maintain those high power numbers he had, but who would have thought he would seemingly forget how to hit almost completely?
  3. MLB Trade Rumors has a report up that Guillermo Mota has agreed to terms on a one year deal with the LA Dodgers. Cites the LA Times.
  4. You're forgetting it "takes two to tango." Kapler seemed to want an opportunity to play more, and that probably wasn't going to happen with the Brewers.
  5. Frankly, the longer the contract, the better, in my opinion. Hardy seems like the kind of guy who should age pretty well. Dare I think, having Braun and Hardy as the core of the team for the next several years would be similar to...no, I won't dare say it.
  6. I couldn't bring myself to start a new thread about Barroid. If the mods want to split this stuff off into a new thread, they certainly can. I don't want any part of a 40-plus guy who has been out for a year, no matter how many career home runs he has.
  7. Since this was the most recent Bonds thread I could find, I thought I would tack this on... Supposedly Bonds has been talking with Reds management about playing LF there in '09. There's the Dusty Baker connection there, and Bonds is claiming he'd love to play there. I think it's pretty silly, but there could be some possibility there.
  8. To be honest though, if they could sign him to a deal similar to Braun's he would probably be considered relatively affordable and thus pretty tradeable later on if necessary.
  9. Yeah, this seems to be a positive sign. I'd be careful to read too much into it, though.
  10. One thing...I know I brought this up in another thread, but I don't get why Dave Parker generates virtually no discussion. I know he had a "gap" of under performance in the middle of his career, but I would think the case of Jim Rice being a "feared hitter" and getting in should make the case for Parker even stronger. He was certainly one of the most feared and respected hitters in the game during much of the 70s and 80s.
  11. The problem is if you are going to do any kind of trade for Young, you have to get the Rangers to eat part of his contract. He's going to be way overpaid...so you either trade too much to get the Rangers to eat some of the contract, or you do a very middling trade that doesn't really help the trade at all in the long run. I guess I just don't see how it would make sense for the Brewers at all. Maybe if they would take Suppan and/or Hall, but I'm sure that won't happen.
  12. I can't believe Blyleven still isn't in, but it's a pleasant surprise to see Jim Rice voted in. I admit that I didn't follow him when he played (I was still fairly young when he retired), but everything I read makes it seem like he really should have gotten in a while ago.
  13. I'm kind of torn on this. I'm really partial to Cameron, but if the Brewers can swing a deal for depth going forward, that could be a positive. I just don't know if Swisher is enough to make Melvin part with Cameron, though. I still think if Cameron gets moved at all, it has to involve at least one pitcher, even if it's just an OK-ish reliever type.
  14. I don't think he really has it anymore. I have to believe there are better options out there, even if it is another aging guy we are just going to sign for a year.
  15. Yeah, I'd seen plenty of pictures and remembered how he looked in his younger days, but there really is no comparison between Barry of that era and Barry of a couple years ago, especially seeing it on video.
  16. Hey guys. I would be interested in participating, if there is still room. I will preface by saying that I am basically a total newb when it comes to this stuff. I did one fantasy league online years ago, but haven't done fantasy baseball in several years. I would love to get back in, though.
  17. Sounds like he may be thinking of Scott Rolen.
  18. The Red Sox already have like 8 possible starting pitchers. Sheets on their roster would be silly.
  19. I thought I remembered Melvin saying he wouldn't be pursuing Lowe at all...I think it was due to Lowe not being interested in coming here.
  20. Eh...I don't know if they were being that "sneaky." I think they figured they'd either get the pick or get a good pitcher at a pretty affordable 1 year contract. Win/win situation, basically.
  21. I just think he'd look really good in that lineup. Between Dunn, Fielder, and Braun, you'd have the potential to put up 120 homers in one season. That doesn't even factor in Hardy, Cameron, Hart, etc. Let's face it, this is a power team, and adding Dunn would augment it. I know some people would like to see guys change their approaches at the plate, but that kind of retraining doesn't usually happen in one season, I would guess. My money right now would be for him to end up with the LAD after they get sick of waiting on Boras to get serious regarding Manny.
  22. There should still be enough available payroll to add one mid priced starter. Please do something, Doug.
  23. Yeah...well, I think a big problem is all the graphics take quite a while to load, including the avatars.
  24. I don't see the big deal. Hopefully the Brewers got a ton of money out of them for this.
  25. It's been brought up before, but Dunn hasn't really played much 1B at all. Who knows if he would actually be amenable to starting there on a regular basis?
