  1. Yeah, one would guess so. For comparison, Mike Cameron: '05: .819 '06: .837 '07: .759 '08: .809 A little more murky, but pretty steady overall. I stand by my statement a couple posts ago...I guess I don't get the fascination that some on this board have with Dave Roberts. Just seems like another slightly above average player that seems like we could acquire, so people keep talking about him. Kind of like Coco Crisp.
  2. Dave Roberts just seems like another one of those players that is slightly above average and seems obtainable, so people on this board keep talking about acquiring him. Yeah, he's a decent player, but I certainly wouldn't get excited about him. I think I'd rather just stick with Cameron for another year.
  3. Somewhere, Ben's dad's ears are burning.
  4. Has there actually been any news on his current health status? There was talk he was going to need surgery, before the off season.
  5. Tony Schiavone as the Braves announcer? That would be..."the greatest night in the history of our sport!"
  6. Yeah, I was just going to comment that I heard MLB Home Plate on XM reporting that the Angels are laying off on Texeira, since they are unwilling to offer a 10 year deal that he is asking for...so they are turning to CC instead. Maybe this will get wrapped up sooner than we thought, freeing Melvin to pursue other players.
  7. Well, the question now is: Where will Jack Proletariat be landing?
  8. I'd rather have Sabathia for five years than Sheets for three, even if the amount is significantly more. Sheets is a #1 pitcher, but Sabathia is a bonafide ace. That's tough to come by, and if we can sign him for not completely insane money, I don't see how you can criticize the Brewers for doing so. There's a risk in signing all players to multi-year deals, but Sabathia's health record is very good. Sheets is not.
  9. One thing that might factor in...it sounds like there is a lot of talk in baseball that due to the glut of closers being available, K-Rod (side rant: Does he ever actually get called "Francisco Rodriguez?" The nickname is really annoying to me) and the like will not be getting the type of paydays originally envisioned. Maybe the Brewers aren't hearing a lot of buzz on him, and think they can sign him for a more reasonable cost than originally predicted. It doesn't sound like any team is really making a strong push on him, which may make him more appealing to the Brewers. Or, as others have pointed out, it could just be pure speculation, and Melvin may not have any plans to even pursue him (or Fuentes) at all.
  10. Well, there's not too much else to talk about right now, so can't blame them too much for reaching. I really cannot believe the fact that CC has a friend who MAY play basketball in New York after this season would really factor into his decision that much. I mean, they are pro athletes making millions of dollars each...if they really want to hang out and have the time, they can just fly in to visit each other.
  11. I assume this is meant to be some sort of viral marketing campaign, maybe for a video game or something like that?
  12. "Fur das Baseballand!" Anyway, sounds like a neat place. Too bad I no longer play baseball anymore, or coach any teams.
  13. That was either incredibly awesome or stupid. I'm not sure which.
  14. Sabathia, at 28 years old, certainly doesn't fall into the "declining FA pitchers" category, though. You certainly can't say his best days are behind him. Could he suffer some severe injury next year that derails him for the rest of his career? Sure, but the chances are remote.
  15. The Brewers landing the biggest free agent prize in baseball? I'd be more than ecstatic, personally. And frankly, given the Yankees offer, if the Brewers did sign him for that, it would be a relative bargain.
  16. Well...you are correct that both of those teams are looking at other areas right now. I just don't think Melvin can wait until even early December to find out if CC is going to come back or not. Too much of his potential budget is going to be tied to whether or not CC is coming back.
  17. I know you mentioned it briefly in your post, but shouldn't re-signing CC be #1? That seems to be far and away the top priority right now.
  18. I guess it's just frustrating to me to read that Doug Melvin and CC's camp have apparently had very little communication. I thought this past week we would have heard more definitive details by now.
  19. Who's available, and what would you be willing to give up? Hoffman and Wood are both available, among others. I think either could be had for a not outrageous salary.
  20. I don't know if he'd be much of an upgrade over a Hall/Branyan platoon at this juncture.
  21. Yeah, Braun is basically my favorite player ever since he came up, but I even admit that he was a hack at 3B. He had no errors last year in LF. I realize there are some balls he maybe could have gotten to that he didn't, but he was fine defensively overall. I don't see any real reason to move him unless we sign an Adam Dunn type, which would basically necessitate moving Braun to RF (which wouldn't be a huge transition).
  22. Well, it might not be much of a deadline if no date has been announced. I do think the Yankees probably guessed they'd have him signed by now, or at least the negotiations would be further along.
  23. Anyway, Jack Z has his work cut out for him. The Mariners are almost basically where the Brewers were about five years ago. It's going to be a couple years before they're probably realistic contenders, even in the weak AL West.
  24. They were discussing this on MLB on XM just about an hour ago. I'm not sure who was actually discussing it (they've shuffled their lineup of shows a lot lately), but they basically characterized it as the Steinbrenners trying to throw their weight around, and basically trying to tell Sabathia that "Yeah, you can have all this money, but it's on our terms." If that's the way the message was received, then I really doubt Sabathia is going to end up a Yankee. They did discuss the Brewers possibly retaining him, and said there is a chance, but probably not a strong one. Not much we didn't already know, but good to see some national media at least saying there is a chance he'll be back in Milwaukee.
  25. There's fans of about 29 other teams right now asking the same questions. At least we know the Brewers for sure will be making moves and spending a decent chunk of change. Wasn't too long ago that we'd be wondering what kind of scrap heap reclamation projects Milwaukee might be able to salvage.
