  1. I personally wouldn't. I don't think the Brewers should be spending huge money on only one part of their bulllpen this off season. I'd rather sign a guy like Hoffman for a much more modest 1 or 2 year deal. K-Rod could just as easily only have one more good year, then suffer the typical "closer's curse" that seems to haunt so many of these guys. Then you're still on the hook for $30 million+. If the Brewers are going to sign one guy to a huge contract, it should be a starting pitcher or a big bopper type LF or 3B (and even that is debatable).
  2. Appears I jumped the gun. crispy contacted me and it was sent out yesterday. Simply a bit of a delay.
  3. I think he could...but I'd rather not see him moved (except for maybe to RF if we obtain an Adam Dunn type this off-season). My dad actually used to play amateur baseball, and claims Braun would be a good center fielder. He would know more than I, but I'd still rather not see Braun change positions yet again.
  4. It depends on who you think is "better" that is on the market, than Hoffman, though. I doubt the Brewers are going after K-Rod. Maybe Kerry Wood is a realistic possiblity, though.
  5. Haudricourt has a new blog entry up, talking about how the Yankees still have interest in Mike Cameron. He mentions that if the Brewers would not receive Melky Cabrera in a potential trade, that Melvin might then try to trade for David Dejesus. Sounds like we could quite possibly see a deal go down.
  6. I just wish Melvin could get back in touch with CC's camp. All reports say the two sides basically haven't even talked since the Brewers made their offer, almost three weeks ago. (Aside form CC's agents letting Melvin know they would look at offers from other clubs). Just one of the frustrations of being a fan on the outside looking in at this stuff.
  7. Hey, not to be a nag, but has anyone heard from crispy in the last few days? I sent him payment for an item on the 12th of November, and haven't seen or heard anything from him since.
  8. I don't know...it couldn't be the worst move for the Brewers to make. Three bad months in the majors doesn't mean he won't bounce back next year.
  9. Yeah, Counsell was basically the Brewers' clutchiest hitter for the final couple weeks of the season. Of course, when the rest of the team was slumping quite a bit, that didn't say a lot.
  10. I guess it depends what you might need it for. I co-own a business, so being able to check e-mail on the road is nice. If you aren't a big e-mail checker, I guess you could skip paying the extra money.
  11. Who would we possibly trade to the Cubs for Fukudome, though? They're not going to trade him to us for Gwynn or something.
  12. I could be missing something, but I thought the whole point of a blackberry was to have e-mail and internet. I don't have a blackberry, but do have a smart phone (Moto Q) through US Cellular, and I really like having the e-mail and internet features.
  13. Any time Jim tortures Dwight with his antics, it's gold. My favorite was the time Dwight recounted all the pranks Jim had pulled on him, like loading his phone with nickels, and telling him there was an abandoned infant in the women's restroom.
  14. I think all Major League Baseball games should be banned from Wrigley Field. I'm surprised no visiting team hasn't filed a formal protest against playing in that dump.
  15. The worst thing the Brewers could do is make a move just to make a move and get people talking. Fortunately, that's not Doug Melvin's modus operandi. I think we'll know pretty soon where the Sabathia situation is going...at that point, it's either going to boil down to the Brewers making a few smaller moves, or going after another big time pitcher. They've got some money to play with this off season, so don't worry, they'll be making at least one major signing, I believe.
  16. I really am not excited by it. I still enjoy a lot of the classic G'n'R (I actually wasn't into them as a kid in the early '90s, since they seemed to be the band that all my friends jabbered endlessly about, and I became apathetic about them...but I got into them later), but I am not excited about this. I'm somewhat curious to hear the instrumentation, but Axl's attitude is such a put off that I think it will be hard to get into a lot of the songs. I don't plan on buying the album, but if I hear any singles that I like, I might download them off itunes or whatever. Fun fact: Former Replacements bass player Tommy Stinson has been with the band ten years already. Kind of puts in perspective how long this thing has been going on for.
  17. I'm pretty sure I had that game, and remember Karl being a Brewer on the roster. My memory is pretty hazy of that, though. Anyway, nice interview. You did a good job asking him relevant questions that weren't just the usual rehash stuff that some of these interviews sometimes get into.
  18. Someone mentioned (in the blog comments) that Peter Gammons reported earlier this week that the Dodgers were getting into the bidding for Sabathia. I hadn't heard that anywhere, so not sure if it's true or not. Even if he did report it, it could just be typical ESPN type of connect the dots bluster. As noted, the Dodgers seem to be most focused on Manny Ramirez right now, where as the Angels seem to be focused on Mark Texeira. It's unlikely either team would be able to sign their respective targets, and then sign Sabathia as well. It really is interesting that the Brewers seem to be the only other team competing with the Yankees. The fact that we haven't heard more by now, since the Yankees made their offer last Friday, make me think Milwaukee has more than a sliver of chance. Maybe not a big chance, but some chance yet.
  19. Haudricourt has a new blog entry up (I assume from last night), where he says Melvin had not heard anything from CC's camp yet, but may be calling them today to check where things are at.
  20. Well, from the reports we've heard, it sounds like Melvin is indeed waiting for a counter offer. My guess from what has been reported is that we'll no by tomorrow or so if the Brewers have any realistic shot or not.
  21. Well, really, four days isn't that much time. The lack of info is a bit frustrating. For all we know, CC's agent could be hammering out contract details with the Yankees right now, or they could be talking the Brewers today. No way to know until it's reported somewhere.
  22. Well, as was brought up, it's not like anyone outside baseball gets to see the books...MLB owners have always been notorious for shuffling the numbers to reflect whatever they want.
  23. What would bother me the most is that Gallardo was injured for most of the past season. If he had been injury free, I wouldn't mind as much. I realize his type of injury probably isn't the kind that can easily be re-aggravated, but I'm sure the Brewers would rather not take that risk.
  24. Fun discussion, and one we wouldn't have even been able to have four years ago without probably being laughed at by other fans. ("Who do you guys think will be able to do it again...Geoff Jenkins or Wes Helms?") I would guess Ryan Braun. One, Fielder's numbers will likely be harder to duplicate (50 dingers is a lot, though I think he could do it again). Two, I think Braun will age better, based on reasons that have been discussed on this board ad nauseum.
  25. Honestly, there are so many different ways to approach voting for an award as vaguely titled as "Most Valuable Player", that I can't really fault Haudricourt for his logic. Many of us disagree with his choices, but it's not like there is a really strict guideline for this stuff.
