  1. Just to support that point, I recall seeing a TV show where the crew set up a fake "lake monster head" in a body of water, and had it briefly appear during a day when a lot of people were around. They then interviewed people, and some of the reports that the people gave were incredibly ridiculous, and nothing like what had happened. People tend to maybe catch a glimpse of something, and then extrapolate wildly on it, for whatever reason.
  2. The large black cats are probably mountain lions who have genetic variance in their fur, I would think. Funny you mention that, I was just talking with a couple from Neenah over the weekend who said there had been a "large black cat" spotted in their area by multiple people. I think they called it panther. Certainly much more believable than the bigfoot, IMHO.
  3. I was vaguely aware that Zima was still around, but can't recall really seeing it in any stores. Not sure if I ever had one. I think by the time I turned 21 (very early in this decade), Zima was already considered a pop culture relic of the '90s, so to speak.
  4. Right, that's the thing. I'm sure Melvin realizes that. Ultimately, though, we have to remember that this isn't a group of green youngsters on this Brewers team anymore. Going forward in 2009 and beyond, the players are going to be more responsible than ever for their own performance on the field. I think all of us realize this, but it's going to be important to remember in the future.
  5. It actually is fairly far fetched. The great apes that still exist in the world live in climates that are nothing like the ones the bigfoot is supposed to live in. Also, unless the bigfoot has a highly adapted digestive system, it would be hard for it to survive on the available diet in the Pacific Northwest. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I just think that after all these years, someone would have more compelling evidence than some disputed footprints and fuzzy photos.
  6. I guess I'm having a hard time believing it's Macha if Jason Kendall said those comments about him. Most GMs aren't typically going to go against their veteran players by bringing in someone they dont' care for.
  7. Yep, that was the one. I remember seeing guys like Gary Carter and Ozzie Smith on there. I was pretty young when it was on, but remember it a little bit. I definitely remember the Chicken being on there every week.
  8. I'm not really a big believer in conspiracy theories at all. I think most of them make interesting movie plots, but when you dig beyond the surface, there's usually not a lot there. Especially aggravating are all the 9/11 conspiracy theories, most of which have been debunked again and again. As far as Area 51, there certainly is a military base there. My guess is they work on experimental weaponry and things of that nature. I don't really believe in alien coverups...I think if aliens existed, they would have made themselves known to us on a wide basis by now. I don't believe in Bigfoot, at least in the sense of a large North American ape...I think if it existed, it would have been found by now, with all the people who have looked over the years. You would assume at least a skull or set of bones would have come up by now. There could be some kind of unknown ape or ape like creature in Asia, though, since much of the Himalayas and such have been relatively unexplored. Edit: And as far as the theory proposed on a third World War...I find it hard to believe someone would have predicted a war between Islam and Christianity in the 19th century. Islam was actually considered to be on the decline by the late 1800s, and many scholars predicted it would eventually die out. Of course, that didn't happen, but it doesn't seem like it would have been a realistic scenario to propose at that time.
  9. Just wanted to say the Lazy Cloud Bed and Breakfast was really nice. Wife was surprised, and we had a great time in the Lake Geneva area. Thanks again for the suggestions, everyone.
  10. Well, just look at a town like Watertown. Population of about 20,000, and used to have about 60 bars...I think that may be down to around 50 or so. Still, that's a lot of bars per capita.
  11. At least I'm not hearing a lot of hand wringing from Boston and Boston media. Most people seem to be saying this was just the Rays' year, and that Tampa outplayed Boston in the series. Really, the Red Sox don't have a lot to be disappointed or ashamed of. They had a great run, but had some key injuries. I'm feeling Tampa in 7 games, but that is just a stab in the dark. I'm not looking forward to the complaining about "low ratings" though.
  12. Speaking of Yost, has any word come out about what he might be doing this coming season? Any chance he ends up with a job in Atlanta (which has sounded to be inevitable)?
  13. The Ripken show on XM is not really dedicated to youth baseball. Occasionally on their show they discuss it.Yeah, I guess you're right. To be honest, I don't catch their show too often. You know what would be really fun? If they could show re-runs of the old MLB Saturday morning show (the one that was geared toward kids). I'm guessing they probably don't have the rights to it, but you never know.
  14. Well, if it is similar in coverage to MLB on XM, it could include a lot of things people on here are looking for. MLB Home Plate (the main XM channel) reports on all 30 teams. Yeah, there are sometimes where it seems like they still talk about the Yankees/Red Sox a lot, but it's much more balanced on XM. They have the Ripken Brothers on talking about youth baseball, there's a fantasy baseball show, etc. If they follow that template and expand on it for TV, it could be a really nice channel.
  15. Melvin has shown that he will only make a trade if it makes sense for the team. He isn't going to just "wheel and deal" to please the fans and make it look like something is happening all the time. I mean, the Brewers made the playoffs for the first time in 26 years, so he has been doing something right. Ultimately though, it will be whether or not the Brewers can sustain that success that will determine the success of Melvin's tenure.
  16. I disagree with one part of the article...they seemed to downplay our primarily German heritage, quoting someone as saying "Too many generations have passed." Well, I'm only 28...my grandfather on my dad's side was born in Illinois, but grew up going to German speaking Lutheran churches. My dad grew up in a typical big farm family with a drinking type of culture. Every little town in this area used to have their own brewery, into the '50s and '60s. My parents, and the parents of many on this board, grew up when the drinking age was 18, which might be a partial factor too. I don't think so much time has passed that it's not a factor.
  17. Under Melvin we've traded with: the White Sox, Indians, Royals, Athletics, Rays, Rangers, Blue Jays, Diamondbacks, Braves, Dodgers, Mets, Pirates, Padres, and Nationals. There's probably been others that I'm forgetting off hand. I've just named roughly half of MLB, though, so this idea on this board that he only trades with a small handful of teams is pretty goofy at this point.
  18. I think you're being ridiculously hyperbolic. Only trades with about three teams? That's not even close to being right.
  19. I agree with "And That"...the speaker is probably bi-ampable, which isn't necessary to do in your case. Your Denon should have plenty of power. I don't have experience with Denon first hand, but they seem to be generally regarded as high quality receivers. I find www.hometheaterspot.com to be an excellent online resource. They probably have dedicated forums for both Denon and Def Tech on there. Not to go way off topic, but I recently upgraded my front speakers from Bose 301s to Pardigm Monitor 9s (floor standing speakers). Huge upgrade. Sounds awesome with my Onkyo TX-SR700 receiver and the Paradigm center I already had. The Bose 301s are now my rear speakers, and will probably be replaced eventually with matching Paradigm surrounds.
  20. http://www.bizofbaseball....g&id=48&Itemid=82 Article in there says Charter would be one of the carriers, which is good news for many of us.
  21. If they tied up a ton of money in those three players, it wouldn't surprise me if they were near the bottom of their division in three years.
  22. Since Charter now has MLB Extra Innings, could they be in line to carry MLB Network as well?
  23. Personally, Valentine really intrigues me. I like the idea of an experienced but slightly "outside the box" type of manager. Johnson sounds like he could be a good option, though I admit I don't know too much about him.
  24. None of the names mentioned really interest me, other than Valentine, and it doesn't sound like he's a real possibility. I'd rather they just stick with Sveum if those are really our options, since at least the players like and respect him.
  25. The guy is going to leave eventually. Melvin is probably going to stay on as GM. Yes, it would be nice if he sticks around one more year, but people around here need to accept that Jack Zduriencik will be gone sooner than later.
