  1. Not to go way off topic, but Powell seems to have a set list of guys he isn't shy of talking negatively about. He's definitely mentioned Bradley quite a bit like that. I know Sidney Ponson is another one.
  2. Yeah...that would be...well, insane, really. He went from having 20+ errors at 3B to having an "error free" season in LF.
  3. Doesn't sound like a bad idea to me. I believe it would be a definite improvement over this season's production. Does anyone know if DeJesus is actually going to be available? Seems like his name gets thrown around a lot on this forum.
  4. Furcal might be run out of town after commiting three errors tonight. I don't think the Brewers would have use for him, though.
  5. Would Weeks really be "protecting Fielder" by batting behind him? I never get suggestions like that.
  6. He had some injury issues this year, but was generally fairly unproductive when he was playing. In 293 ABs this year:.246, .301, .392, .694OPS. 9HR, 29RBIs. Looks like it was wise for the Brewers to let him walk.
  7. Me too. The Dodgers are actually my second favorite team, and have been for a long time, for whatever reason. Looks like Philly has their number, though. As far as Jenkins, I'm happy for the guy. I was never a huge fan of his when he was on the Brewers, but appreciated that he stayed with the team for so long, through some rough times. I don't think the fact that he has been more of a bench player will diminish the accomplishment of getting a ring for him, if Philly does win it.
  8. I saw that on Thursday. Pretty funny. The Daily Show also took a jab at the Cubs the other day, which was pretty amusing.
  9. Again, you're assuming the decisions were made by the owner. There is no concrete evidence to support that.
  10. I guess I still am not seeing where all of this supposed "meddling" is coming from. It just seems like a lot of rumor and innuendo. If Attanasio was really hampering Melvin's decisions that much, I'm guessing they wouldn't be talking about a contract extension right now. At any rate, I still feel that the signing of Suppan and firing of Yost were the right moves at the times they happened, regardless of how much ownership was involved. We can certainly look back and criticize, hindsight being 20/20 and all.
  11. Does anyone have any solid info on how insurance would work for a potential contract like CC might get? I mean, theoretically the Brewers should be able to get some financial protection if they were to sign him to a long term deal, and he did sustain an injury that kept him on the DL for an extended period, right?
  12. Again, I really don't want to see them rush Gamel to the bigs. A lot of people are forgetting he was sidelined with an injury at the end of this season. I think it's way premature to be penciling him into the Brewers' 2009 lineup at this point.
  13. Surprised there wasn't a thread about this yet. Seems like the kind of game a lot of people on this forum could get into, especially if it ends up being well done. "2K Sports announced today that they will be publishing MLB Front Office Manager. The game will allow players to perform trades, signings and releases like a real-life baseball GM, taking a team from spring training through the World Series. Oakland Athletics' GM Billy Beane will offer advice to players in the game." http://www.gamedaily.com/...-manager-announced/?biz=1
  14. Whoops, yes, I meant Sheets and Sabathia. It seems like a lot of fans are thinking like this...it sort of seems like the mentality I've seen on this board the last couple seasons is that we can keep expecting our youngsters to step up and perform at a high level, almost immediately. As another example, people keep putting Gamel and Escobar into projected lineups for '09, when neither barely have any AAA experience. Sometimes a guy can come in and contribute right away (Braun, Fielder, Hardy, etc), but this is more the expection than the rule. It's especially difficult when it comes to starting pitching. Neither Gallardo or Parra have ever pitched close to 200 innings in a season, so if you're banking on one of them becoming the "stopper" for 2009, I think it's going to be a rough year. I guess it's one thing if you assume 2009 will be a sort of "step back" or "rebuilding year". I really hope that after tasting the post season for the first time in 26 years, the Brewers do not go that route.
  15. If the team is betting on Yo and Parra instantly becoming the equivalent of Sheets and Parra, then it will be a long season. I know that won't be the case, but I think the strategy of hoping the young guys step up to perform like seasoned MLBers needs to end pretty quick, both with the offense and defense.
  16. You can't pay three "Yo types" because they won't be available.
  17. Yes, but these days, what three good starting pitchers will you get for 25 million? I bet the terms "overpaid" come up for all of them.
  18. Yeah, I wish this would quit getting brought up. You'd think everyone would know this by now, especially after all the "The Cubs are going to make A-Rod a part owner" talk last year.
  19. Rivera should have gotten an "I" for "Incomplete." I don't know how you honestly grade a guy on 20 or so appearances. This of course again begs the question of what he did to become the team's permanent bench warmer. As far as Suppan...I guess you can argue for or against a C- based on the criteria...but how you can turn around and not rate Mota higher than that is beyond me.
  20. They probably collected interest on it, I'd guess.
  21. I don't know why anyone would think Gwynn will make a solid offensive starter at this point at all. He really doesn't seem to fit in the Brewers' plans at all, so I'm not sure why he's even being discussed. Maybe his last name still holds some allure to some people. I would guess he ends up getting traded this winter in a package deal, if anything.
  22. Two more words. Herb Kohl. Well, fortunately I think it's safe to say that Attanasio is like neither of them at this point.
  23. I don't think saying they "ran Spivey off" is correct, either. They traded him for Tomo Ohka, who was pretty servicable as a Brewers starter for a while.
  24. I think people have gradually lowered their expectations on Weeks. He's been in the majors for three and a half years now, basically. I think we know what we have with the guy, basically. He's not a horrible player, but I don't think he's going to be the perennial All-Star some were predicting when he came up, either. I am not opposed to seeing the Brewers trade him...I just think it's silly to talk about DFA-ing him or trading him for a bag of balls. He still has some value, I imagine.
  25. Been there, done that.
