  1. "When Johnny takes up a roster spot, he really takes up a roster spot."
  2. I agree. It's been a great season so far. A few weeks back everyone was fretting that we'd see the usual "Yost second half collapse." That has not happened, as of yet, so why not enjoy the ride? It will be just another couple weeks, and assuming the Brewers are still holding the Wild Card, if not even further up the standings, Wisconsin is going to have full blown Brewers fever!
  3. You have to give it to the Dodgers though...at least the guys they have traded for have been producing. This isn't like last year's Giants team that was loaded with old over the hill players and one virtual home run derby participant.
  4. I heard that too. It gave me a chuckle.
  5. I don't think there's any question Attanasio won't spend money again this off-season. He has shown that he's willing to spend plenty to put the team in contention. It's just a question of how much the Brewers can spend after this year, and who will realistically be available. I think you laid out some good alternatives, JohnBriggs. One exciting, but at the same time somewhat scary, concept is that we could be looking at a _very_ different Brewers team in 2009. We could likely see a couple new starting pitchers, probably a very different bullpen, possibly a new CF and/or 3B, etc. And of course, depending on how the rest of this year goes, we may have a new manager this off-season. Doug Melvin is going to have his work cut out for him (assuming _he_ is still here, too).
  6. I agree. It's just too risky. I would rather see the Brewers make an all out effort to sign Sabathia to a big contract, but I know that is extremely unlikely to happen. Hopefully there will be some good safe options for the Brewers in either the trade or free agency market this off-season.
  7. FWIW, I heard Bill Schroeder on the D-List this morning, and he said that he didn't think Braun would be out for much at all, though he may not be in the lineup tonight. He said that Braun's removal last night was more of a precautionary measure than anything.
  8. Come on...I really doubt Yost would go against the trainers' advice, in such a way as you are posturing right now. Yost has a lot of faults as a manager, but I doubt he is actively trying to jeopardize the health of any of his players.
  9. I just hope prices don't go up too much more next year...they've been pretty steadily raising prices each season for the last three or four years now.
  10. I could swear I've heard the Hardware Hank line very recently, but it could very well be an "ingrained memory" thing. I think it's great that the Brewers can actually get all these sponsors, and are probably getting a pretty penny out of all of them at this point. That probably wasn't the case 5-10 years ago. I also don't miss the manual scoreboards...I did kind of like them, but to be honest, it felt like they were trying to do this forced "old school charm" thing on a ballpark that is about as modern as it can possibly get. The LED scoreboard is a better fit with the park, combined with the ribbon board.
  11. Couldn't this technically be considered tampering on the part of the Astros?
  12. Yeah, I really didn't get the thinking. I guess Yost probably checked with CC and he said he was fine to go one more inning, but why not just use someone like Mota to mop up the 9th with such a big lead? I don't get it.
  13. Honestly, it's not like Kapler has been a bad replacement. I love Braun, but if he needs to sit a few more days to get back to near 100%, so be it.
  14. I wish they'd rework the system a bit. The whole thing seems a bit antiquated.
  15. Sounds like a nice pickup for the Dodgers. Maddux supposedly would only accept a trade to a West Coast team, so this makes sense.
  16. The extra advertisements don't really bother me at all. I just tune them out and focus on the game.
  17. It was funny to hear Hank Steinbrenner basically admit they were out of contention a few days ago.
  18. Nothing to instill confidence in snapping a losing skid like Dave Bush taking the mound!
  19. Maybe he gained 10 pounds of muscle. None of you know for sure.
  20. I could be wrong, since I don't follow the Bucks, but I thought she already did do at least some Bucks games.
  21. Ugh...here we go again. Sorry, no offense, and I acknowledge Prince may have gained more weight from last year, but I need more compelling evidence than someone's casual observation watching one game.
  22. Can't they make some kind of concession for the away team fans, and not start a game past 9:00 PM or so local team? I know it will never happen, and it's probably due to the heat in LA this time of year, but it's really hard for me to stay up for a whole game when it doesn't start 'til after 9:30 PM. 2 of 3 games would make me really happy. As far as Braun, I heard this morning he is not expected to start tonight, but may be available later in the weekend.
  23. 10-15% depending on how quickly they get it over. At least a buck generally.
  24. Only five more days...looking forward to it!
  25. I could see going to 32 teams eventually, but they would have to implement a true international draft at the point, and hopefully some sort of salary cap (won't happen). I am personally annoyed that the Brewers are in the only 6 team division in baseball. Usually the excuse is that "Well, the Pirates and/or Reds are terrible anyway", but how long can you bank on that for? Selig has been a great commissioner. I'm not a traditionalist fan...I like interleague play and the wild card. He's had the black spot of a strike, but I think that would have happened no matter who was commissioner are the time. Personally, I think the Expos should have just been contracted instead of moved to Washington, but that's just my opinion.
