  1. Yeah, the easy wins seem far and few between for this Brewers team. Ultimately, it's nice that they're winning (it doesn't matter how in the end), but it's hard to picture this team as a legit playoff contender, even though I know they're close in the standings.
  2. I don't like the idea that the projected W/L is considered by some to be the team's "real" record, practically. Then you hear about how if they won more games, they performed over their projection. Maybe the projection was just wrong? Win-Loss is extremely important, but it doesn't factor in for things like injuries.
  3. Heard Haudricourt on the radio this afternoon, and he said the negotiations between Sabathia and Cleveland were not going anywhere, so he could seriously be available as soon as next week.
  4. Hell, just go for the full 40 ouncers. I actually did not know 'til a couple days ago that Miller produces Mickeys. Never drank one in my life, either.
  5. Yeah, the merger thing was mentioned in the first post in this topic. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, more beer selection is never a negative in my book.
  6. Man, too bad our outfield is stocked, because I would love to see Matt Holliday as a Brewer. Obviously not going to happen. I hope the Brewers can get Sabathia somehow, but either Maddux or Wolf would not be bad options either.
  7. I think it's sounding more likely than unlikely at this point, but I don't want to get my hopes up yet. I think a lot will depend on how the Brewers perform in the next couple weeks. If they keep playing .500+ baseball, the likelihood greatly improves, I would think.
  8. I wasn't trying to give parenting advice. If you want to bring your children to Brewers games, more power to you.
  9. Yeah, there's a stand that sells a lot of bottled import beers (of course, they pour it into a plastic cup). I had a Pilsner Urquell at one of the last games I was at.
  10. Coors has other brands, too. Blue Moon on tap would be nice.
  11. Gwynn or Hall seem like possibilities, but I don't know if Cleveland would have any real interest. Other than that, I can't see anyone the Brewers would be willing to part with at this point.
  12. From everything I've heard about Mike Cameron, I doubt he finds signing is "beneath him." Maybe the guy was just having a bad day? That's the hard part about when a fan meets someone famous...the guy could be having a long day, and blows the person off, and the person automatically assumes the athlete/actor/whoever is a total jerk. Maybe he just wasn't in the mood to talk.
  13. I guess I'm surprised somewhat by people who bring really young children to baseball games (like, under seven or so). I'm sure really young kids can have fun at a game, but what are the chances they will remember it even a year later? Just my personal opinion. My dad waited 'til I was eight to take me to my first game (OK, technically I was at one earlier that year with some other people...can't say I remember it too much...too many other kids and stuff going on, I think, and I was just overwhelmed by the size of County Stadium), and I can still remember much of it to this day, twenty years later. I also think that by the time a kid is eight or nine, they are somewhat mature enough to understand when their parents tell them "We don't repeat all this stuff we hear from these other people, OK?" Or at least, I hope parents do that. I don't have kids myself.
  14. Yeah, the guy is becoming another Gary Sheffield. We should trade him for three mid level players and be done with him.
  15. I agree. I'd probably rather sign Sabathia than Sheets at this point as well. I just don't know how realistic it is...but you have to figure that between Sheets and Sabathia, the Brewers would be able to re-sign at least one of them. There's only so much money to go around out there.
  16. How about this (and I know it would never happen): Brewers get: Felix Hernandez Ichiro Suzuki Richie Sexon Mariners get: Tony Gwynn Bill Hall Prince Fielder (and possibly a pitching prospect, who I won't speculate on) The Brewers would gain an international superstar veteran outfielder, as well as a quality SP, and Sexon would be a stop gap until LaPorta or Gamel are ready at 1B. The Mariners would get an upper level 1B/DH they could control for a few more years, and possibly resign, as well as a potential starting CF and a super-utility guy (who admittedly has low value at this point).
  17. Interesting comments from Gammons, but I don't get the part about "giving some of the Sheets money to Sabathia." Is he saying the Brewers would try to sign him to an extension immediately if they did acquire him, and forego any attempt to re-sign Sheets, or that Sheets would get traded if they acquire Sabathia (which makes no sense at all)? I'm kind of confused. I do agree that LaPorta and Gamel will probably not have to be traded for Sabathia. I could see a package of three or four mid-level type prospects getting him. Like has been pointed out multiple times in this thread, teams have been giving up less and less for two month rentals, over the past few years.
  18. Yikes, he sure did. Guess I jinxed him or something. Of course, Braun has plummeted since then too, but for some reason that doesn't seem to affect him the same way... I really hope you're not trying to insinuate what I think you are insinuating...
  19. Short? LaPorta is listed as either 6'1 or 6'2 (depending on where you look). Not a giant, but I wouldn't call him short.
  20. Yep, I'll take that at this point. Keep putting the pressure on them.
  21. Trading for Sabathia doesn't guarantee trading LaPorta and/or Gamel.
  22. The Brewers seem to be sleep walking through this game. I guess the Metrodome is prone to making people bored, but come on now.
  23. For those curious, I chatted with a Charter rep this afternoon, asking them when they would add the channel, and she told me "Thank you for waiting, right now there is no estimated time when it will be available." So much for getting any concrete info, now that the season is nearly halfway done.
  24. Yeah, I am really pining for them to add it soon. As much as I pay Charter for their services, adding this one channel would pretty much make me completely happy as a customer. Hell, I'd probably send them a thank you card, or at least a thank you e-mail.
  25. This is what I was talking about in that other thread...another highly productive semantics argument. Yes, the Cubs are likely to fall back to earth eventually...we all knew that, given their relatively easy schedule in the early part of the season. Only the most naive Cubs fan would think they were going to continues at that pace. The Brewers have a good chance of catching up to them if they keep playing well and winning series, so I am definitely not jumping on the Cubs bandwagon, regardless of who they happen to play. I mean, I'd rather see us win the division and the Cubs get the wild card spot, than the other way around. The Brewers have a bunch of home games against the Cubs yet this year as well, further increasing our chances. (Don't get me wrong, though, I'll take the playoffs for the Brewers any way we get there at this point).
