  1. I wouldn't really call Olympic baseball "the spotlight." There's a reason they have a World Baseball Classic now, and will not have baseball as an Olympic sport after this year.
  2. How soon before the Player's Union files a grievance on Chacon's behalf?
  3. That's kind of what I figured. I have no doubt that the Brewers making the playoffs for the first time in 26 years would amount to a huge boost in revenue for the team, for the short and near future. I was 2 years old in 1982. I want to be able to experience the kind of Brewers Fever that was sweeping Wisconsin that year.
  4. I'm with the general concesnsus that seems to be here, that Sheets should only be traded if the team tanks badly before the All-Star break, or before the July trading deadline (more realistically). Otherwise, having Sheets is probably going to give us the best chance to make the playoffs this year, something that would give such a HUGE boost to this team. As an aside, does anyone have any idea what kind of money a team typically rakes in by making the playoffs? I keep hearing that it's a pretty big boon, but haven't heard any solid figures. I suppose it depends on how far the team advances, of course.
  5. The Brewers are probably in a nice position where they have enough good but expendable type talent in their minors that a "quantity for quality" type trade could make a lot of sense and be quite do-able.
  6. I always thought Cinco was a reference to Cinco de Mayo. But I could be wrong. You know Cinco de Mayo means "Fifth of May", right?
  7. I can't believe people are still riding on Yost right now. I heard a couple days ago that in the last 30 some games, the Brewers have the best record in the National League. I am just trying to enjoy it while I can. We saw last year how quickly the wheels can fall off the wagon...this team may still have problems, but right now Yost is far down the list, in my estimation. We're 1.5 games back in the Wildcard hunt, and only 6 back in the division with plenty of games against the Cubs left at Miller Park. Frankly, hearing Braves fans praising Yost just makes me think that a lot of Brewers fans aren't looking at him with enough perspective.
  8. One other thing that's always bugged me about All-Star voting...shouldn't people technically factor in the second half of last season? You're basically only voting based on half a season of performance otherwise. What if a guy had a crummy first half last season, and amazing second half, and then a very good first half this season? Shouldn't he still get strong consideration (assuming he's near the top of his position)?
  9. I don't see how any reasonable person can blame the Brewers for not trying to re-sign Sheets before this season. He has missed significant playing time the last three seasons. If they had signed him to a $60 million extension (or whatever amount) and he went down again this year, they would never hear the end of it.
  10. I don't get why he'd decline the assignment. Is it really that demeaning to go down to AAA? He'd still get paid the same. I think Scott Boras is giving the guy bad advice, personally. I also echo the earlier sentiment about how entertaining a Tavarez initiated brawl would have been entertaining.
  11. Dibble was actually joking about this on XM this afternoon, "Well, this solves their offensive problems." Good luck to Graffanino, though I don't really miss him.
  12. Post his e-mail address on here and let the good times roll.
  13. I run my own business as well. While I get to basically set my own hours, I drive around a lot, so of course the gas prices don't help with that. Also, it can be hard finding and keeping good people.
  14. I'm fine with giving Yost an extension if the Brewers make the playoffs. No one else has done it with this team in 26 years.
  15. I believe that Attanasio himself has said a few times that Sheets wants to test the FA market and I know that Powell just said something along the same lines in yesterdays post-game show. I'll look around when I get a chance and see if I can find anything in print. Correct. Attanasio mentioned early in the season (or maybe it was in spring training) that he "expected Sheets to test the free agent market". There's a quote out there from the owner, exactly stated to that effect.Yet people keep nagging on the Brewers to sign him. It's just not reality that they can do it at this point.
  16. Third complete game this season for Sheets. Go figure.
  17. .235 generally isn't regarded as hitting "well." Yes, his OBP was nice, but that doesn't always cut it.
  18. What about all his other games? He doesn't have as many errors this year, but I wouldn't say he has looked particularly sharp at any point this year, as far as defense.
  19. Agreed. What has anyone honestly seen from Weeks so far this season to make them think he gives the team a better chance to win than Counsell currently does? Counsell has been hot lately, and I'm not eager to see him benched.
  20. One thing to keep in mind is that Braun has basically only been in the Majors a little more than one season total. He will probably learn to be more patient and draw walks as he matures as a player. I really can't complain about his OBP the way he is hitting, though.
  21. Well, yeah, a lot of people would think "Same old Brewers, trading their stars away..." but the fact that we'd be getting Sabathia, who is a pretty big name in baseball, would hopefully negate that.
  22. I realize that LaPorta is hitting very well in AA, but I really doubt he's Major League ready quite yet, or will be in just a couple months. Some seasoning in AAA is probably due before he starts at 1B for the Brewers.
  23. I got the same card in the mail. I hope this doesn't mean they're reneging on their promise to add FSN in HD this summer if three other channels "are the top vote getters."
  24. OK, fair enough. He did have a couple good appearances, but the bad outweighed the good. You are correct there.
