  1. You ever notice how often the local newscasts just happen to run a special piece on a show or personality on the parent network (obviously the FOX stations are notorious with this and their American Idol recap segments)? The average person probably doesn't realize how much cross promotion happens because these networks are all part of wider conglomerates.
  2. A lot of the local news also seems to be very agenda driven, with the reporters being pretty biased. I could go into a whole rant on FOX 6, but I won't. I suppose it's probably similar in many markets these days, though.
  3. To be honest, I kind of agree. This team seems like it could use some kind of attitude shake up right now. Maybe someone like this with a little fire on the field will get the Brewers out of their funk.
  4. I think this is good. Maybe this will be a sign that Hall will step things up a bit and re-earn his starter spot. I can't be mad at him...this is a guy who has done everything the Brewers have asked, and had a couple good years. I think he will rebound yet this season. He may never have a season like he did in '06 again, but I think he can still be a productive everyday player.
  5. I think we maybe had a week of real spring weather here.
  6. Well, it's probably just speculation on their part. I wouldn't put much stock in it..
  7. Could some kind of trade be in the works, possibly?
  8. Can anyone give us a summary about Dillard? I don't know much about the guy.
  9. I don't see how you can possibly blame Fielder for Gallardo's injury.
  10. Prince tries to make an unassisted play more than he should. Hopefully as he matures as a player his defense will become a little bit more natural.
  11. I'm sorry, but this made me snort water out of my nose when I read this.
  12. http://atlanta.braves.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080522&content_id=2747540&vkey=news_atl&fext=.jsp&c_id=atl "ATLANTA -- A 25-year-old man died after suffering fatal head injuries at Turner Field near the conclusion of Wednesday night's game between the Braves and the Mets. ... While the Braves and Atlanta Police Department are still investigating, there is a belief that Hayes may have been sliding down the handrails before falling approximately four levels. " Don't drink and do stupid stuff, people.
  13. Ah, thanks for the link. Pretty much summed up what I had suspected. After reading through all that, I'm definitely not even going to bother calling them back. I'm somewhat tempted to call or e-mail the Brewers and let them know I don't think they need to allow a company like that to solicit in Miller Park. I don't know if it would be worth the effort, though.
  14. I would say Gallardo's injury, Gagne and Turnbow's combined lack of effectiveness, and also a lack of production from certain guys like Fielder and Weeks are much more "hindering the cause" than anything Yost is doing.
  15. The thing I like about Braun compared to a lot of outfielders, is that he isn't really a "streaky" hitter. He stays very consistent throughout the year. Yes, he was a little slow to start at the beginning of this year, but so was most of the team.
  16. I'll say they've "turned it around" when they're at least 1 game above .500. They have a ways to go before they are even serious Wild Card contenders at this point.
  17. You know those guys standing inside Miller Park when you get inside the entrance that try to get you to sign up to win a vacation, and/or other prizes? Well, I did fill one of their forms out with my friends at the last game we went to, and last night I got a call on my cell phone from a woman saying I had won a 3 day/2 night stay in either Las Vegas or Orlando. She gave me her name and direct number and said I should call when I plan to stop by and pick up my vouchers (or something along those lines). She did preface it by saying they would tell us about their other promotions/offers, etc and hoped we would tell our friends about their company. Is this a legit thing, or is it a scam? It makes sense, sort of (they're giving away a pretty inexpensive prize, probably trying to get you to "upgrade" for a longer trip, etc). It could also be one of those things where you have to go to some timeshare seminar, for all I know (though she didn't mention that). Just wondering if anyone else had been contacted or heard about this company.
  18. Maybe Yost "learned to win" on the plane trip to Pittsburgh.
  19. I honestly don't notice any difference. I think no one would be talking about his weight or eating habits if he was hitting like he was last year.
  20. Are some of you going to be really happy if Yost is fired, and then the team still continues to play poorly? If the Brewers fire Yost tomorrow, make Simmons/Kremblas/whoever the manager, and they're still in last place by the All Star Game, are you then going to call on Attanasio to fire Melvin as well? I'm not saying I'm against firing Yost...I just don't agree with the idea that there has to be some kind of sacrificial scape goat to placate the fans. Those kind of things don't usually have any sort of demonstrable long term effect on the attitudes of the fans.
  21. It's basically a reversal of where things were at at this point last season...the Brewers were running away with the division, and the Cubs fans were wringing their Lee jerseys in frustration. That said, the Brewers will have to start getti
  22. If Weeks could just play the solid, slightly above average defense you typically look for in a middle infielder, I wouldn't be as concerned with his offense, either. It just seems like almost every play he makes is either spectacular, or an easy play that gets botched. For whatever reason, he seems to struggle making the routine outs.
  23. I think there's some validity to what you're saying, Stein, though I don't agree with it 100%. I mean, my memory might be a bit faded, but I don't know if you can really say the press gave the Brewers a "free ride" during the Selig-Prieb era. Let's face it...the Brewers are "in bed" with Journal Communications to a large extent. You aren't going to likely see hard hitting critical journalism about the Brewers in the Journal Sentinel, or hear harsh talk about the Brewers on 620 WTMJ, usually.
  24. Well, first off, you're assuming they're looking to fire him at all. We don't have any real indication of that. Certainly waiting to see how the rest of the road trip goes wouldn't exactly be out of the realm of possibility. It's not like managerial firings in baseball only happen on "off days." In fact, looking ahead, next Monday's game in Washington is a day game, while the game at Miller Park on Tuesday is in the evening. Certainly, that would leave time for Melvin and company to make any decisions.
