  1. I would think there's more to this than "saving Sheets for Boston".
  2. Along the same vein...this is a tough one that I really can't describe...sometimes, usually when there is some kind of break in the game, they play this instrumental organ piece. It kind of sounds like it might be a version of some oldies song from the 50s or 60s. Anyone have a clue what I'm talking about?
  3. I think Melky will be an OK-ish player...I don't think he's ever going to be a powerhouse offensively. I think he tends to be a bit overvalued because he's a Yankee. That doesn't mean I wouldn't mind him being Cameron's replacement down the line, but don't think we should sell the farm to get him, either.
  4. I still don't get how people can honestly say the Suppan signing was bad. Did they probably overpay a little bit? Yes. But what does Suppan do? He stays healthy, eats innings, and generally keeps the team in the game. It was a genuine need, and they went out and filled it, rather than hoping another AAA guy would come up and fill the role (and none of them that have come up really have, regardless). I think we're seeing this season how valuable that is.
  5. Complaining about Mark Attanasio is really grasping at straws at this point, IMHO. Yost should be on an extremely short leash at this point, regardless.
  6. Yes, I would still love it if the Brewers had made it to the the playoffs once or twice over the last ten or so years and fallen short. At least it would be _something_. Much better than our one winning season in the past fifteen years, for sure. The Marlins are pretty unique. I don't think there's another team that really follows their model, but it obviously has worked for them, to an extent.
  7. Lopes was incompetent and not a good manager at all. Yes, he had a bad team under his helm, but just the basics of running a baseball team in-game seemed beyond him. Royster I didn't think was quite as bad...but really, the guy was a dead duck in the water from the moment he got the job.
  8. Actually, about three years ago, I was having similar problems...I was sleeping fine and night, though, and eating a relatively good diet. Felt run down constantly during the day, but also at night. Doctor ran a blood test and found I was low on iron, so he prescribed an iron supplement and that took care of it.
  9. Go to the doctor so you don't risk permanent pains in your hand.
  10. I think if they got to, say, 10 games under .500, that could be a time where we see something happen. I'm hoping it doesn't get to that point, though.
  11. naivin, to be honest, those are the only two instances I can really think of off hand as well, I admit. I suppose one downside of a mid-season managerial change is that the Brewers are a very young team, and may not react as well to a sudden change as an older team might. On the radio the other day, they made a point to mention that in their entire history, the Brewers have only had a grand total of one manager with previous MLB managerial experience. Might be something for Melvin to think about whenever Yost finally is cut loose.
  12. How are you eating? What is your sleep schedule like? Those would be the big questions I'd be asking if I was your doctor. Of course, I'm not an MD. I'd try to get off the energy drinks. The high amount of sugar (high fructose corn syrup) is not good for you, and addictive as well.
  13. Yeah, like I've said before, it was pretty much a big middle finger to Brewers fans. I don't want to turn this thread into a Paul Molitor debate, but I don't think a team should disrespect a franchise player like that and let him walk. The Brewers didn't gain anything by letting him go, and he went on to get a World Series ring and was also the MVP of that series.
  14. I tend to doubt that. Melvin hasn't shown a penchant for making rash decisions. I wouldn't cry over it though...I'm personally very "neutral" on Yost at this point. I don't think he can be blamed for all the team's problems thus far, but sometimes a managerial change can give a team the kick in the pants it needs to turn a corner.
  15. Yep, definitely. Like the article points out, the team barely missed the playoffs in '92. It went pretty much downhill after that, unfortunately.
  16. I did not tune into the game until the fifth inning (decided to play The Show on PS2 instead) and spent the rest of the game only casually listening as I brewed a batch of beer. I accidently let my wort spill over a bit on the stove. It was still time better spent than watching the Brewers game last night.
  17. "2004: The Brewers finished last in the NL with a .248 average. Pitcher Doug Davis went 1-for-64 (.016) to lead the way, but only Lyle Overbay hit above. 280. Pitchers Wes Obermueller (.385) and Brooks Kieschnick (.270) outhit nearly every position player." That last line made me laugh. Surprised they didn't mention the low ball offer to Paul Molitor after 1992, although I realize the focus of the article was more on the on-the-field stuff. Worst moment in franchise history, though, IMO.
  18. Like others have said, we overpaid Gagne for a relatively low risk one year of service. I think it made sense, given the limited amount of other options out there. Really, though, I don't like the idea of trying to pin all the Brewers' woes on one player. Like I've said elsewhere, people simply have the tendency to point the figure at the last guy with the ball, though.
  19. I really don't think LaPorta is likely ready for MLB before the end of this year. Do we have to keep waiting for the next AAA guy to help us win?
  20. Would a team like the Pirates do a trade like LaPorta and Gwynn for Gorzelanny? Maybe. This early in the season? No way.
  21. I've been meaning to try playing as a catcher for a while though. I play as a 2B, I guess because that was my position as a kid.
  22. Also had a very "Brewers-esque" moment last night...I'm playing in AA for the Carolina Mudcats...my guy leads off the inning with a gutsy triple. The next two batters strike out, and then the third guy hits a weak grounder to end the inning. Hilarious. Also, playing as a 2B...my team's catcher seems to have no arm. I think I've managed to get the tag on two or three stealing runners out of about two dozen attempts. Ah well.
  23. Pujols could be forced to sit out the remainder of the season at some point due to his elbow, but if I'm not mistaken, the Cards will have various pitchers coming back during this season, which could at least help their pitching situation. The Cubs are the ones to worry about the most. There's nothing to indicate "Derrick Lee will get injured". Yeah, he's been hurt in the past, but seems healthy so far this year. They also probably have enough depth where an injury to someone like Lee isn't going to be enough to derail them at this point.
  24. Well, I have been getting better at batting. However, I keep having those games where I just feel the computer is intentionally robbing me...you know, you have a couple long balls that are caught just short of the wall, and then you line right to the third basemen. I only made one of my five or so goals during the first part of my '08 season. Ugh. Will have to knuckle down some more, I guess.
