  1. I think it's a fine line...I think the controversy over the "Warriors" name was a little over the top. A "Warrior" could be anything, really, not necessarily having any Native American connotations. As far as the Indians...I don't think the name itself is likely what most Native Americans would find offensive (I'm not trying to speak for them, of course). The word Indian is extremely generic and could denote any one of a number of nations worldwide. I could see the logo being something to take issue with...but, really, I just view it as a cartoon. I really doubt too many people in 2008 see that logo and think "Well, that's what most of them Indians look like." If some team had a name like "The Caucasians" and had a smiling white guy as the logo, I would probably just laugh at it. We also have to remember in any issue like this, that the viewpoints of activists do not necessarily represent the views of the entire population in question.
  2. Well, that would obviously be unrealistic. Cubs ticket holders would obviously be given some kind of deal to go to games at Miller Park, but you couldn't expect all of their fans to make all 81 games in Milwaukee. Some amount of tickets would be likely made available to local fans.
  3. I don't know if anyone seriously thought that, cubfan. As far as concessions, parking, etc...like was mentioned before, I'm sure MLB has fairly stringent rules about this sort of thing. This isn't like making a deal for a used car with your neighbor or something.
  4. I do think that this season is going to determine whether or not Yost continues to be employed by the Brewers. However, I think firing him mid-season is basically waving the white flag. Everyone points to the managerial change in 1982 as a blueprint for succss, but this team doesn't have the proven veterans that the '82 team did (other than a couple guys like Kendall and Cameron). We have put a lot of faith in these young guys, and maybe some of it has been unfounded, to a point. I hate to say it, but we have to accept that not all of our young position players may emerge as effective everyday starters.
  5. You can't always blame one player, even if he is the last guy holding the ball. It's still a team loss. Yeah, he's blown more saves than he should, but virtually every closer is going to blow some saves in any given season.
  6. Exactly, panther. That's what I was alluding to as well.
  7. you can change the GTP setup, change it to Classic 4 that way you only have 4 sections to choose from, alot easier. I'll look at that...thanks. I'm playing in Veteran mode right now. Wonder if I should switch to rookie just to "get my swing back," for now.
  8. *sigh* I know I'll get better, but right now in RTTS I suck at hitting. I'm like four or five games into my first season and I have yet to get a hit or even a walk (granted, they're using me almost exclusively as a pinch hitter). I guess I just need to get better at reading the pitches or something. Guessing pitches doesn't seem to be as effective as last year's game, at least for me so far.
  9. Yes, I did find that amusing. About the only amusing thing in the game broadcast today after about the 7th inning.
  10. I think you're taking a pretty idealistic view (a million dollars a game?!). I'm sure MLB has rules regarding all this stuff.
  11. How do you measure the success of a bench coach? I have no idea, I guess.
  12. I bet he'll make a good hitting or bench coach somewhere.
  13. BTW, we have a Wii and like it a lot, though I think a PS3 and/or XBOX 360 would be cool, too. I'm currently trying to finish Mario Galaxy on Wii. Great game (granted, it's been out for a while now).
  14. Coudn't Mark A just as easily make a big splash by signing a free agent pitcher this off-season who is not Sheets? Not trying to be argumentative, just saying.
  15. No, I really like the Rockies logo and color scheme, personally...it's unique and one of the "cooler" color schemes in sports, IMHO. I don't care much for the Padres' current logo...it's rather generic, as is their color scheme. Wouldn't mind seeing the Royals maybe tweak their logo a bit, too. Oh yeah, how long have the Yankees been using that letter thing as their logo? Time to change that. (OK, maybe not).
  16. Yeah, I saw that the other night. Pretty funny.
  17. With the PS3, don't you get to play online for free, whereas with the 360 you have to pay for a service?
  18. Well, the Packers were able to do similar things with Lambeau Field...don't know why it would be impossible for the Cubs to do it at Wrigley.
  19. I think a lot of people on this board need to take a step back and relax. Reactionary signings almost always backfire in sports.
  20. Didn't Melvin say during the off-season he had approached his agent, but they didn't really have any interest in signing with Milwaukee? It does make me mad the Cubs got him though...I don't think he's going to be a perennial All-Star type, but it seems like he could be a really solid everyday player, with above average defense.
  21. Wild idea...why not have Braun DH? They have enough outfielders to cover LF.
  22. It finally happened. Seems hard to believe. I also hope Turnbow can turn things around and be a valuable contributor to the Brewers again, or otherwise find opportunity elsewhere.
  23. I agree with Robin that running a TV broadcsast is a lot tougher than it looks. I think the frustrating thing is just how much the quality of the broadcasts has gone down since last year. It would be one thing if the Brewers were new to FSN, but they've been on the channel for several years now. It just seems weird to look at how much things seem to have declined. You would almost think the Brewers were for sure going to be gone after this season, and FSN was just throwing out some team of interns to handle the broadcast as an after-thought.
  24. To me, while Gwynn is useful to the Brewers, he just doesn't really have a solid place on the team. With Cameron back, he's going to be limited to late game substitutions, or being used as a pinch batter/runner. Getting a young pitcher like a Will Inman back for him would be enough, IMO.
  25. Ever notice how they don't have any actual pictures of these other supposed planets, like "Planet X"? I'm not saying they don't exist, but a lot of it is based on hypothesis and theory, and then put out there as fact.
