  1. clancyphile, what would it matter? I doubt Boras is going to take any offer, regardless. 10 year contracts are incredibly risky besides. I don't have a problem offering Braun something long term, though. Everyone that sees the guy play just raves about how natural and talented he is. He was the NL RotY last year. That should be worth something.
  2. I think there's no way Journal Communications will let the Brewers go. I do hope they have to pay more money for them, though. I think they will, just to keep the prestige of being the "Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Badgers flagship". As far as FSN, it's been said that the current TV contract with the Brewers goes through 2011 (thanks again, Wendy), so in theory the Brewers should see a huge revenue jump before 2012 that could possibly help them keep some of their young star players. Maybe someone else has the numbers, but I've heard even teams like the Royals get something like 10 times the amount of TV revenue that the Brewers do.
  3. I'm sorry, but some of you seem to be of the belief that everyone attending a baseball game should behave like the game is an upper crust social event, and politely clap for everything. I have to disagree with the sentiment. Baseball is a blue collar, working class kind of game. You're there in a stadium with thousands of other people, drinking beer and eating brats and nachos. Like it or not, most of the people attending the game don't know or care what OPS or WHIP are, and many only go to one or two games a year. They're "casual fans", and there's nothing wrong with that. They by and large support the teams' payroll. I don't see what right anyone has to tell someone else at a game how they can or can't express themselves. Yes, if they're being vulgar or overly obnoxious, that's one thing...but booing and cheering are both part of any sport, baseball included. I have no problem with Milwaukee getting the reputation of having rowdy fans. I've heard Milwaukee called the Midwest's Philadelphia, and I have no problem with that, either (though that's probably a stretch). I'd rather have opposing teams hate the thought of playing at Miller Park, than thinking "Yeah, their fans don't care about anything, and we're going to roll over their team anyway." Remember the earlier part of this decade? That's basically what it was like. I'd rather not go back to that. I'd rather be at Miller Park with 30,000 fans, some of whom are booing, than sitting in a sedate group of 10,000 or so that seem like they're ready for a nap. I do agree that the attitude of the fans at the game I went to on Friday was a bit underwhelming...the excitement level didn't seem to be there, but that could have been due to the cold weather or other factors (yes, I thought it was still fairly cold, even with the roof closed, and I had four layers on).
  4. I have no problems with booing...you pay for the ticket, you should be able to boo or cheer whoever you want. However, many of the fans around me last night didn't seem to get the concept that this was a pre-season game that didn't mean anything. I mean, people were ripping on Suppan for not jumping higher when a ball went over his head early in the game, and they were on Turnbow right away when he struggled a bit. You'd think we were in the thick of the playoff chase, the way some of these people were talking. I have no problem booing if someone is genuinely performing badly, or if the player is someone who deserves it (Sheffield). It does sometimes get overdone, though.
  5. I think it was the old video, though I could easily be wrong. I'm almost positive it's "slopper."
  6. Yeah, we were in section 111 last night, and saw the Cubs fans. Didn't really catch any of their heckling. Actually, before the game even started, one guy was standing up and just ripping on them endlessly, and it was kind of funny. Honestly, there were quite a few mildly annoying fans last night. I won the "sit in front of the group of drunken frat boys who know nothing about baseball" lottery again, and had two rows of them behind us. One group wasn't too bad, but the group behind us was annoying for a bit...of course, it ended up they weren't even in seats they had tickets for, and left after a couple innings when the actual ticket holders finally showed up. Yes, it's never too early in the year for that sort of thing. Also, one guy kept yelling about Cameron and his "steroid use." Come on now, at least get your facts right.
  7. I was at the game last night. If nothing else, I am confident that the defense is going to be MUCH better than last year. Braun looked really comfortable out there, as did Cameron (obviously) and Hart. I think Weeks is slowly but surely improving at 2B, as well.
  8. Hmmmm...I'd be willing to sacrifice watching the game on TV to see Wrigley get leveled by a twister.
  9. That's a pretty excruciating way to die. Definitely not peaceful.
  10. I was listening to XM yesterday afternoon, and Rob Dibble was especially fired up about this. His point was that "They paid him millions and made millions off of him...and he was a major part of their team for 15 years." I basically agree with them. I don't like Bonds, but to have had him be such a major part of their organization for that long, and then to just pretend to wash their hands of him is pretty disingenuous, IMHO. They took calls from fans yesterday, too, and at least one Giants season ticket holder was pretty mad about it.
  11. I will be at the Brewers game tomorrow. Looking forward to it...though I wish the weather was going to be a little nicer...of course, with the roof, that doesn't matter too much http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  12. What I don't get is, supposedly Estrada was hurt, but basically had to play because he was catcher (I mean, would Damian Miller have been that big of an upgrade?). Rickie Weeks played most of the last two seasons hurt, apparently, but gets a free pass from everyone on this board. It seems a little unfair, to me. That said, I don't really miss Estrada, either.
  13. I don't know, I enjoy Homer, but that's just me. Doesn't matter...living in Jefferson County I won't be able to hear it at night anyway.
  14. Ep. II is definitely my favorite of the three prequels. It seems to have the best "balance" between the three.
  15. I don't know...this feels weird to me. I guess I wasn't as down on Vargas as a lot of people here. No, he wasn't stellar, but I think he could have served a role. Oh well...realistically, pitchers like him are pretty much a dime a dozen.
  16. I think the merger is good...there is no way both services would survive "as is" right now, anyway. Their real competition is terrestrial radio and other mediums.
  17. I really wanted to like Episode III, but at the end of the day, I couldn't honestly call it a good movie, or even a good Star Wars movie...mainly for reasons that RoCo already outlined. The whole segment where the troopers suddenly turn and start killing the Jedi just seemed over the top and stupid, to me. I did think General Grievous was cool, though. Count Dooku was just really cliche...it didn't help that the same actor (sorry, I forget his name) had basically played the same character, but much more effectively, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I agree that a prequel (cartoon or not) set between epidodes III and IV would be really nice.
  18. Well, them planning on adding it at least is a step in the right direction. They're finally adding Discovery Network HD in our area, which is literally years after I think virtually every other service had it. Really, it wouldn't be that big a deal to me if FSN's analog feed wasn't so poor in both terms of audio and video quality.
  19. Didn't the Brewers supposedly already offer Prince a long term contract earlier this off season, and Boras turned it down?
  20. You're not the first person I've heard say that.
  21. Yeah, I'd usually get 25 or 50 cents, maybe a buck here or there, and I'm only in my late 20s.
  22. Frankly, I wouldn't mind the Brewers acquiring Saltalamacchia. I think he could turn into a pretty talented MLB catcher eventually. He seems to have the bat already, just needs to develop his defense. I thought the Brewers should have went after him before the Rangers got him.
  23. I do like Martinez a lot, I just don't get the chance to catch that show quite as often. Dibble definitely is very "pro players". What can you expect, though? I believe he was a union rep for his team when he was a player, so that's the perspective he's coming from. As far as "droning on about the Red Sox and Yankees", yeah, they do talk about them a lot, but they do touch on the other teams pretty well, too, IMO.
