  1. Sal saw 4 pitches that weren't anywhere close to the strikezone and he swung at 2 of them. He doesn't have anywhere near enough power to not be a heck of a lot more selective than that.
  2. Would Milner just come off the IL and take the pitching spot? I do assume Hall will be up sometime in the next 20 days.
  3. He's available if we need some innings to be ate during the stretch run.
  4. Didn't see any stories about this, but the new parking system was in place on Saturday. I hadn't heard any announcement that they were trying this again. It was a little confusing getting into the parking lot. They seemed to be parking the cars differently than they normally did. Instead of parking right behind each other they seemed to be go trying to park you in the next stall over before filling in the back stall. That might have been what was creating the confusion. Other than that it seemed to work fine. I wonder if that was the reason they had the brewers out in the parking lots throwing freebies to the fans. Just in case the system blew up again.
  5. That survey reeked of we got too much money from the government and we have no idea what to do with it. The price points on all the premium seating services were ridiculous. $300 or $400 a ticket!? The best seats right now are what $125 a ticket without any discount. Who in their right minds is paying $300 for one ticket to a regular season game. Every game they are advertising suite rentals so they seem to be having problems selling tickets to premium areas for a first place baseball team. Whoever did that survey does not seem to understand the Milwaukee market at all.
  6. The Brewers current odds to win the WS are between +2200 and +3000 depending on where you look. Last year at about the same time the Rangers were +1300 while the Dbacks were +2800. That seems like a realistic chance of winning the WS to me. If you are hoping the Brewers will someday be the prohibitive favorites to win the WS I think you should pick another team or another sport to root for.
  7. That seems to be a perfect description of Myers and Gasser. How many of those guys do you think the Brewers or any major league team has?
  8. I watched the video and I didn't see much of a funky delivery.
  9. Two things. 1) This isn't some hour long long TV show where 5 characters investigate and prosecute an entire case. Undoubtedly tens if not hundreds of people were involved in this case. It is ridiculous to think that all of them would keep evidence regarding Ohtani's gambling a secret. 2) The annual US gross domestic product is $25.44 trillion. Do you really think anyone in the federal government gives a darn about some baseball player making $68M a year? The tax on that salary isn't even a rounding error in the federal government's budget. The conspiracy theory that the federal government is covering up Ohtani's gambling gives the flat earth conspiracy a run for stupidest conspiracy theory I've ever heard.
  10. I'm a CPA so professionally I have an elevated interested in these kinds of stories. Based on all the stories I've read over many years I would believe that all of this was done without Ohtani knowing. I can give you a fairly recent example, Dane Cook had $12M embezzled from him by his brother and sister in law. https://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/celebrity.news.gossip/12/06/dane.cook.restitution/index.html I can tell you in my own relationship with my wife, I handle the finances. If I wanted to "embezzle" from the family funds I most certainly could do so and she would never know about it. How many marriages do you think are like that? Lots of people trust their friends and family with their money, but they really shouldn't. Trust but verify.
  11. I have no desire to sit through another season of watching Jessie Winker/Jake Bauers "hit". Tommie Pham is out there so is Brandon Belt. Both would be better than Jake Bauers and I would think they wouldn't be that expensive.
  12. Good defense is appreciated at any position but you gotta hit at first base. Every player has some hard hit outs. There was only one pitch in the 4 pitch walk that was anywhere close to the zone. I think even Javy Baez walks in that at bat. He's got a career .661 OPS in 1,229 at bats. That just isn't going to cut it at first base if you hope to win the NL central. Unlesss he catches fire I assume he's going to be replaced by someone sooner that later. I hope he hits but there really isn't any evidence to support that he will.
  13. Reds up 4-2 in the 6th. Nats stink.
  14. Watching the Reds defense today and hoo boy it is not good. Nationals scored 2 runs in 5 innings on the basis of 3-4 plays that should have been made but weren't, and that doesn't count a pickoff play in the first inning that they had the nats runner dead that the first baseman flat out dropped. That guy didn't score. The second Nationals run scored in part because the reds centerfielder forgot how many outs there were and didn't bother throwing home on a relatively shallow fly ball. I don't think the Reds have enough pitching to get away with playing that bad of defense. They'll probably come back and win today because they are playing the nationals but that was an ugly display of defense for the second game of the year.
  15. It probably depends on whether the TIgers think he can play second base. Looking at their depth chart at second the Tigers have a top 100 prospect that only has 300 at bats at AAA, Andy Ibanez, a 31 year old journeyman(who did have a decent year last year) and Zack McKinstry. That would seem to be Keston's best shot at playing time. Assuming he can a) field at second base and b) hit major league pitching. If he could have done both of those he'd still be a Brewer I guess. So if you are predicting an outcome I'd think Matt Laporta and not Nelson Cruz.
  16. I see what you are saying, and you do have a point there. I think it works the other way too. How many guys are there like Craig Counsel that play into their 40s that would have been out of baseball for years if they had been judged only on numbers. Fans use those stats to judge if a move is good or not but the front office has access to a lot better information than we do.
  17. I suppose but his stance on only pitching one inning didn't change when he was traded to the Padres so that seems like more of a system issue with arbitration rather than a shortcoming of the Brewers. And as others have stated we will see if anything changes now that he has the guaranteed contract with the Astros.
  18. Someone explain it to me, based on a lot hitting metrics Soler isn't that much better than Sanchez. Sanchez is cheaper and can play catcher decently. Soler is an absolute butcher in the field and more expensive. I don't see the appeal at all for the Brewers. The giants absolutely need a power hitter so I can see why they went for it but I wouldn't want that contract on the Brewers.
  19. When Hader went all the way to a hearing in 2020 -- arbitrators ruled his salary should be $4.1 million instead of the $6.4 million he sought -- Are there people out there that think that if the Brewers ponied up an extra $2.3M back in 2020 that Hader would have turned down the 5 year $100M he got the astros and would be happy pitching for the Brewers for 5 years and $40 M or whatever? There must be some because I've read a lot of comments how the Brewers screw up with Burnes in arbitration like there was some chance they could sign him to before free agency.
  20. I'm not sure why that's hypocritical.
  21. I don't think it's that cut and dried in that I assume innings pitched has some value in arbitration, just that saves are worth that much more, I assume. His first two full years in the league he had 81 and 75 innings pitched. Since then he's never had more than 58. How much in baseball is there where a winning player does something that they don't get paid for? There used to be a lot more of it, going in hard to break up a double play. Nobody gets paid to do that but that helped win games. Sacrifice bunts. Nobody does that anymore either but nobody got paid for doing that. In the game today it's probably stuff like hitting the cut off man, taking the extra base, taking a pitch (Chuckie hacks on 2-0). Winning players make those plays even though that doesn't increase their arby figure or their free agent contract. That San Diego team had a boatload of talent and they didn't win jack squat. Team leaders with attitudes like Hader, Machado and Tatis Jr might explain why they underachieved. Grumpy old man rant over.
  22. I think the underrated part of this deal is the Brewers ability to improve catchers. Every catcher that has come into our system has improved defensively, If this ends up being a transition year and the Brewers end up being sellers at the deadline Gary Sanchez could be one heck of a trade chip if he maintains his offense and becomes average or above average defensively. He's got a pretty good arm and decent pop time. The knock against him was blocking balls. If we can improve that he becomes a very attractive piece for just about any contending team except for LA, Philly and Atl. So I can see this working out great for the Brewers whether they contend or not. As long as he doesn't contract Jesse Winker disease.
  23. Do they need to dump someone from the 40 man? They were at 39 before Hoskins right?
  24. This will be interesting. I was reading somewhere that there were like 6 decent 1b/DH free agent options out there but there were only 5 major league jobs that appeared to be available. Hopkins, Turner, Cooper, Santana, Martinez, Belt. So there might be a decent player out there looking for a job and time is getting short. I could see us picking up a guy on the cheap right before training camp. I'm fine with keeping that spot open for Yeli/Contreas etc but I wouldn't mind another upgrade either.
