  1. Over the past 3 years, Nomar has put up a .768 OPS against righties, whereas Lamb has put up a .780 OPS. There might be a slight advantage to a platoon there, but factoring in that Lamb's pretty bad vs. lefties and he'd get "LOOGY-ed" at some point during the game, I'd almost rather go with a full-time Nomar solution at 3B (until Gamel's ready).
  2. Since curly-fry technology exists, why do we even have regular fries anymore?
  3. There's always the possibility of moving Hart to CF and finding a corner OFer (Burrell). It's not without its problems, but it is an option.
  4. I think that's actually a really good idea. He can allow Macha to sit Fielder against tough lefties now and then, and if he gets hurt, you still have Lamb, Hall and Gamel to fill the void. As long as you can count on him to be healthy for the first few months, you've bought some pretty valuable time for Gamel, and you have a guy who can play all 4 infield positions.
  5. I think you're right about the Yanks being in the driver's seat, for now. Based on team needs, there aren't many teams that are looking for CF help. However, in S/T, when the injury bug starts to hit, a team will probably be more interested.
  6. Those logos together look pretty hideous... Reminds me of "gum and nuts, together at last" (edit: busted URL in quote; multiple edits were for testing and bug reporting purposes --1992)
  7. I think part of it is a basic cost-of-living problem in New York. How much is a decent apartment in New York? Probably a boatload of money. Players also know that when the Yankees are targeting a player big-time, that they're WILLING to pay 20 to 30 percent extra, so why not gouge them for it?
  8. I signed up for it when it first started... It wasn't for me, but that's only because I didn't watch enough movies. The service was great, though.
  9. Yeah, I mentioned this back in the CC mega-thread, but I'll leave this thread open to see if the topic gets any play... It was sorta buried amongst the other CC posts.
  10. Crede's a Boras guy, and I have a hard time believing that Boras wouldn't find him a multi-year deal. If Gamel is on the front burner at third base, I wouldn't see the Brewers committing to a multi-year deal... Of course, if the market stays depressed this offseason, I suppose Crede might be had for a one-year deal.

  12. I'd actually see if they could get Paul Byrd for 2 years... would be a nice mentor, and still has some life left.
  13. It really seems as though the pitchers who are coming off the board are pre-disposed to certain cities and certain situations (Moyer with the Phils, Johnson wants to get a deal done with SF, Smoltz has Detroit ties). I don't want another situation where the Brewers have to overpay for another Suppan-type...
  14. The plus to Hernan is that he's pretty much free, and can play the OF. The plus to craiggers is that he still can put up a decent OBP. I'll go with neither...
  15. Exactly, surely a center fielder will go down in spring training for a contender at some point. Perhaps Cam's salary is holding up other moves, but it's not like they have to start getting a paycheck until opening day anyway.
  16. With an OPS of .670 last year, and an OBP of .329, I'm not feeling very optimistic about the Hurricane anymore. It's not like the 25th man gets all that many reps at the plate, but I'd rather have a guy who excels and SOMETHING, whether it be OBP, SLG, or a LH/RH split. Hernan's completely flat at all of these things. Having him as the 25th isn't going to make or break the club, but I gotta believe there's a better option out there, even maybe a minor league free agent.
  17. Interesting article surfaced today... Kenny Lofton tried to dissuade CC from signing with the Yankees. Kind of vague, but I figured I'd throw it into this thread in case someone found it interesting.
  18. Yes, but if you didn't pick Cam back up, you would have come out with 10 million in the deal...
  19. Looks lyke the Reds sygned Laynce Nix to a mynor league contract.
  20. There's a Steve Howe joke in here somewhere.
  21. I'll freely admit TGJ has a mediocre arm. I've seen him make great jumps on the ball, never take odd routes, and sliding catches. Now obviously, my exposure to seeing him play has been limited to a few visits to minor league clubs and the limited time he's had reps in the Milwaukee outfield, for take it for what it's worth. I know that he's also had a very positive defensive reputation from scouting reports to this point.
  22. I actually don't hope they give up Escobar+ for Peavy (assuming the rumor has merit). Don't get me wrong, he would slide right up there with Yo at the top of the rotation nicely, but away from Petco, he's a career 3.70 ERA pitcher. Certainly nothing to scoff at, but Petco has somewhat artificially made him an "elite" pitcher. Given that he seems like a decent teammate and a healthy pitcher, I don't think it's the end of the world if they'd deal Escobar for him, but I think his numbers would end up being much less impressive than we'd hope at Miller Park.
  23. Joey Gathright steals bases at a 74% clip. If the benchmark is that 66.7% is the break even point, he's stolen a career 78 bases, is it really that much of a value? I do feel that the THREAT of stealing puts added pressure on a pitcher, but if he's only getting on base at a .328 percentage, I'm very underwhelmed. As far as TGJ's defense goes, I've watched him in the majors and in the minors, and I'd really say that his defense is Cameron-esque. I don't think he has an amazing arm or anything, but he's very instinctive and pretty rangy. I agree that TGJ has a lot of name hype associated with him, and that he's not a good idea as a starting OFer, but I don't see Gathright being any better.
  24. If they could sign him to a minor league deal, fine... but given the fact that they're going to have to still do some 40-man maneuvering to perhaps get a SP or two, I just don't see anyone on the 40-man I'd want to cut to make that happen.
