  1. Everytime this happens, I die a little bit inside...does that count? I think, collectively between all of us, a full person has died. We should just do some BF.net flag football during a game sometime, so we don't have to concentrate on the game.
  2. Given the US mortality rates I'm going to guess that quite a few people died during the game. Nobody died as a direct result of this game... at least, none that I know about.
  3. One thing's for certain. We're going to find out.
  4. Another RHP.... No reason to sit the hot Gross vs. a tough RHP. I agree, but I think I'd sit Hall right now before Hart. Dunno, over the last 7 days, Billy's had a .810 OPS vs. Hart's .489.
  5. Another RHP.... No reason to sit the hot Gross vs. a tough RHP.
  6. A large number of people on this site were highly pro-Gross before he started playing well in this stint. Would anyone argue with this?

  8. http://www.djouls.com/groove/images/Various-Dan_The_Automator_presents_2K7_b.jpg It was actually kind of weak except for the Hieroglyphics track:
  9. It's not as easy to stick with your guy when he's batting .200, gets ripped on by a large number of posters and gets optioned to AAA. So, this feels extra good.
  10. Personally, I think they should scrap and rebuild. They only have 2 guys with an OPS higher than .800, a 1B and a DH. The Indians and Tigers aren't going to get weaker to the point where whatever Chicago can throw out there will be competitive. But if they're hell-bent on band-aiding their team, they could go with Jenkins, Luis Gonzalez, or someone that's going to put up a near .800 OPS for a cheaper price.
  11. Well, carrying Mench made sense since he's always probably going to be better against LHP, but yeah... I missed having Gabe around.
  12. .820 OPS now..... this is why we talk about small sample sizes.
  13. Per rotoworld: White Sox signed outfielder Jermaine Dye to a two-year, $22 million extension with a mutual option for 2010. It's less than the White Sox thought they'd have to spend to keep him at the beginning of the year, but he'll still be getting a healthy raise over his previous deal. Dye will receive $9.5 million in 2008 and $11.5 million in 2009. The mutual option is worth $12 million and includes a $1 million buyout. The 33-year-old Dye was a legitimate MVP candidate in 2006, but he could finish this year with a sub-800 OPS for the fourth time in six years. Also, he's hit substantially worse with runners on and RISP both this year and in his career. That they're only guaranteeing him two years makes this a fair signing for the White Sox, but he probably won't ever again have a season like his 2006. Seems like a lot of guy whose 1.000 OPS season in '06 seems to stick out like a sore thumb, especially for someone at his age. Seems like they could have done better just saving the cash to sign a bunch of draftees over slot.
  14. Stupid umpire just jobbed the Cards out of a run and an out.
  15. This dinner is organized by bullpen catcher Marcus Hanel, a Racine native, and is for a very great cause.

  17. Yeah it's so easy Buster Olney. Our pitching has been horriable and would have to do a complete 360 for us to get back on track. Although even when the pitching is good, our defense and our ability to only hit solo HR's doesn't help much. A 360 would get us back to where we are now. http://static.yuku.com//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/frown.gif
  18. My apathy about the Brewers recently has allowed me to enjoy other things about life. Tonight, I gave my 3-year old niece her first experience with taking hacks off a batting tee, and she loved it. It was probably my most genuinely happiest moment all month.
  19. We remember what Gross did last year vs. RHP, and think he'll do the same or pretty close to it with a larger sample size of at-bats. Generally, the guys and gals here appreciate players with high OBP and high SLG, regardless of batting average. And personally, I appreciate a good platoon player for the bench, especially one who can play all 3 outfield positions. People get on Rickie because he's held to a higher standard than Gabe, since Rickie's supposed to be an everyday player with a very high ceiling. Gross is just a bench guy or a platoon player, so the bar is lower.
  20. Aww man, wish I would have known earlier. I would have totally been in.
  21. Since the Cubs basically can print their own money, I don't see how this is anything but a good deal for them.
  22. Exaggerating to make a point is never a good idea.
  23. Yes, it's a selective sample, but it's not like I took 125 scattered at-bats from various points in the season. It's a stretch that includes all of July and every game of August so far. Lot's of power is great, perfect for the bench. It's not about player development anymore, and I'll cite Weeks as an example. I'm a big Corey Hart fan too, but his bat went to .720-ish OPS-ville when July rolled around, and it hasn't come back yet. If the Brewers end up 5 games back of someone else in the NL central, by all means, play Corey every day. Until then, you're going to get better production out of a Gross/Hart platoon, at least in my opinion.
