  1. I don't know how relevant that is, but I trust this more mature group of players to handle this better than the group the last couple years would have.
  2. There seem sto be some validity to this, and it certainly makes one wonder if injuries ultimately derailed his career. If you look at it in the opposite direction, is it possible if not likley that his very poor play (hitting) has been a result of not being 100% healthy, or at least not being 100% confident that he was recovered from injury?
  3. I am somewhat intrigued by the Grudzielanek idea. He was having pretty solid year last year when he got hurt. Frankly, he has been consistent the last several years. Would he be a viable 1 or 2 hitter? My main concern is how they effectively fill the lead off spot, because i just don't see that guy on the roster right now.
  4. Doug's gotta go find a lead off hitter, doesn't he? The thought of Hart, Counsell, or Kendall in that role every day, all season really doesn't excite me. I don't care how much thunder they have behind him. Sucks for Weeks especially...finally seemed to be putting it all together.
  5. I don't know if this is true, but maybe he doesn't really want one. With the options currently available in house, I don't see them spending a penny to fill the open spot at this point. Depending on what happens over the next few weeks, they may need to look at acquiring a lead off hitter, but for the time being, they have a number of combinations they can turn to.
  6. Well, given what's going on with Weeks...as usual, it seems these things have a way of working themselves out. It is looking as if a whole bunch of AB's and time at 2B probably just opened up. With Counsell taking those, assuming Gamel performs, he just might be here playing 3B for quite a while.
  7. Well, hopefully he does better than Brad Nelson did on the ladder of success, when he took one step and missed the whole first rung.
  8. You got it. Not sure why they can't figure that out because I think they are really screwing it up. Should I care? Ehh. Then again. TH thought enough to say something about the volume, so maybe I should. Therefore, I would urge anyone who cares to go ahead and send an email. The Attansio Brewers have definitely demonstrated they care what the fans think.
  9. I like it. Of course, Knock It Right Out may not be a bad choice either.
  10. I was first to point out that Ryan Braun = $***! Eye's jai Rodriguez, so let me be the first to say, Mat Gamel = Paul Wetserberg (Just struck me during the interview on FSWis. unfortunatley I can't seem to find a decent picture of Gamel w/out a helmet, or PW w/out sunglasses. Best I could do... http://projectprospect.com/files/imagecache/content_image/files/media/content/Mat-Gamel-300x450-b.jpghttp://www.singingfool.com/photos/437/018365_17.jpg
  11. Just took a peek at the radar. This one isn't looking too good.
  12. Doug Jones came to mind for me as well. That guy was also a blast to watch. I will repeat that they really need to fix the intro. That Rob Edwards intro before the bells start ringing, really sucks the life out of it. Send your cards and emails today!
  13. Steny's? East side?
  14. That's kind of my point though. If Gamel comes here and hits MLB they way he hits AAA, I would have to believe there would be very real temptation to get keep him up and send him out there every day, and that would make some sense. That seemingly leaves Bill Hall without anywhere to play though. To continue to get him AB's they may need to move him around some. I don't really care for that idea, but the alternative (in this yet to happen scenario) would seem to be Hall not really playing at all, or becoming a RH PHer. Not sure that's a good idea. As I said, I would assume gamel goes back down almost no matter what, but if a week and a half from now, he's hitting .325 with a couple HR's they would probably have to seriously consider keeping him around.
  15. Question now becomes, what if he comes up and pulls a Braun and hits the cover off the ball? Would they really send him back down, or do they try to return Bill Hall to a super-sub role? Nice problem to have I suppose, and I guess my answer is it would depend on defense. They seem to have an ok defensive team right now, and considering they also seem to have plenty of offense, they probably would send him back down. Hopefully it is a decision they will be forced to make.
  16. This is exactly how I see it. Once Catalanotto is ready, he's up and Gamel goes back down to play every day, and be ready when the next opportunity arises.
  17. I believe Mo's Irish pub does.
  18. Of course it has only been 21 AB's, but Nelson has demonstrated no ability to fill the PH roll that he is being asked to fill. Nor would I suggest has there been any indication that he will be able to develop that ability. He has proven he can hit AAA pitching with regular AB's, but at some point this year the Brewers are going to need someone not named Craig Counsell who can come off the bench and get a hit. Nelson probably has about 2 weeks to prove he can be that guy, or its gonna be over for him. The Brewers certainly share in the blame for putting him in a role in which he had no experience, but then again it seems they didn't have much to lose. Not sure they saw much of a significant future for him in the organization anyway, so probably a gamble worth taking.
  19. I've been thinking the same thing watching him. The guy is an artist. Flame throwers are nice, but watching Hoffman place those fastballs while the hitter can't stop thinking about the change up is a thing of beauty. I was actually hoping the Brewers wouldn't score any more runs in the 8th, just so he would come in to pitch. On a related note, I think the game day production staff and Rob Edwards need to get their stuff together from a timing standpoint. I don't like the announcement preceding the music starting. I think the bells should start ringing before the bullpen door opens, and the announcement should not be made until after he is well into his warm ups and the song has played for a while. That's just me.
  20. 20% of the way home, and so far so good. They thus far have 5 wins combined, which puts them 'on pace' for exactly 25 wins. If Parra can get another tomorrow, they would be 'on pace' for 30, so they are right where they need to be. I still believe the win totals of those two guys will be a very good indicator of where this team is. This is stupid I know only 32 games in, but where the season to end today, those two would be right where I needed them to be, and the Brewers would in fact win the WC.
  21. This is 100% correct, and it is the reason I no longer go to Brewer-Cub games. It draws in the wrong element from both sides, both primarily intent on simply making their presence known. Its not fun, its just plain stupid.
  22. Yeah, may not want to go all the way, but coming in high and tight with purpose on Nyjer Morgan might just be enough to draw the warnings and be done with it.
  23. Obvioulsy every game and situation is different, and these are not set in stone, but with Hoffman's return/debut, along with what has transpired thus far, it appears that the bullpen is rounding into shape in terms of who will and should be called upon to do what (at least for now). 9th - Hoffman 8th - Generally Coffey, although I think Macha may continue to utilize him much the way Piniella uses Marmol to get out of any particular hot spot anywhere after the 6th inning or so. Works for me. 7th - DiFelice/Stetter - both will likely be a guy called upon to get out of certain jams as well, Stetter facing LHers, etc. Villanueva continues to look more and more like a career middle reliever - starting 6th/7th inning, etc., and should be effective in that role. McClung in long releif/spot starter. Julio - professional seed spitter. All in all, not too bad. Seems deep enough - should have enough arms to cover if Coffey is called upon earlier, a guy needs a day off, etc., but will clearly be subject to some bad days. A healthy and effective David Riske in place of Julio, would be big, but seems pretty unlikely.
  24. AT what point do we need to be concerned that Parra's collision with "the wall" last season, wasn't necessarily temporary? I'm not saying I'm there yet, but when does the word fatigue turn into the word bad? Like many here, I hold the opinion that he is mentally weak.
