  1. I think this is the aspect that may be as much involved in the decision to try this then the home/road thing. These comments from Ned is the ones that struck me, and that I agree with... "I want to continue pitching both instead of just burying one in the pen in a long role." - and- "I'm trying to present an opportunity for each player that is conducive to his success." Neither one of these guys has been particularly coming out of the bullpen, but obviously they want to keep them both on the active roster. It is certainly not ideal, but this should provide a few opportunities to each get some time out of the bullpen, and perhaps see which one does better. Personally, i would probably just go with Bush, but I have to admit, his performance on the road is hard to ignore. I think this approach does provide an opportunity for the decision to settle itself, and hopefully let one guy settle into a bullpen roll, and the other to settle into the starter's roll. In the end I would be shocked if this goes more than a couple weeks or truly impacts more than 1 or 2 starts, so it probably isn't worth a whole lot of heartache. So if the impact of acquiring Sabathia was 2 wins, what's the impact of this decision? An out?
  2. Late start works out good for me for a change. I've got ribs on the grill with a couple hours to go, kids will be in bed, and my wife is out of town. Yay me!
  3. I am more interested in seeing his summer of overuse continue at every opportunity. As I stated in another thread at some point, if the Brewers are in the World Series I don't give a rip about home field. They could play on the moon for all I care. When it comes to teh Brewers matching up with the Red Sox or Angles, I'm not sure location is particularly important anyway.
  4. Looks like Marmol better pitch 2 innings tonight now, instead of just one.
  5. But not nearly as annoying as the real thing.
  6. Chris Berman will host the Derby -- which will also be available in high definition -- and will be joined on the field by analyst Steve Phillips and Morgan. "Baseball Tonight" host Karl Ravech will be joined by analysts Peter Gammons, John Kruk and Rick Reilly in-studio for further commentary. Erin Andrews will report and provide interviews on the field. Chris Berman, Joe Morgan and Steve Phillips?!?!?!? Each is worse than the next. Does anyone have the lineup so that I can minimize the time I have to watch this abomionation and still see Braun? Erin Andrews is the only saving grace... http://www.mixmakers.net/images/erin-andrews/erin-andrews-big7.jpg
  7. Cubs win the Central easily with 93 wins. Brewers get 88 and narrowly beat out the Phillies (87) for the WC. Mets win the East (89). I'll give the West to the Dbacks (85).
  8. Good. Hopefully he gets an inning. I ain't into that whole home field thing. (If the Brewers are in the WS, they could play on the moon for all I care. Not sure location will matter much agains Boston or Anaheim anyway.). I'd just as soon see Marmol pitch any chance there is. If anyone appears to need some time off, its him. Let's hope he doesn't get it.
  9. Lou has done his very best to channel the ghost of Dusty Baker where Marmol is concerned - pitching him at every opportunity this season. I have been leveling abuse accusations since 2-3 weeks into the season. That may or may not be what's going on, but dude has had a lot of innings and appearances.
  10. Why? What exactly do you think would be gained were he to do that? What do you believe that will translate to in terms of wins and losses?
  11. The Cubs offense is just relentless. Every time Ramirez hit sone of those (which seems to be about every other week), I die a little inside. I love the Wild Card!
  12. Weak! I hereby recommend this post be deleted or moved off-topic.
  13. Funny because I was just thinking the same thing the AM. However, I am going to assume that between Yost, Simmons, Maddux, Melvin, and Kendall himself, there will be enough eyes on teh situation to manage it effectively.
  14. And I see yours. While I understand you want to hear him say those things, judging by your comments, it appears to me you know that often what he is thinking or says to the team, and what he says to the media are probably two distinctly different things. He obviously doesn't see much to be gained from making more critical comments, nor do I. So while it may make you feel better, Ned's focus appears to be what goes on in the clubhouse, and ultimately between the lines, as it should be.
  15. Why? For what purpose? What do you expect to be accomplished by him saying more?
  16. No, actually, I've seen them, and they provide plenty of reason for me to stand by my comments. Is this the point where someone throws out the term strawman?
  17. Well, actually we did hear Jenkins and Hall complain for about 5 minutes when Ned had to inform them that they would be put into a platoon rolls. Yet, once they dealt with the initial (understandable) disappointment, they accepted it and it was a complete non-issue. But, he isn't polite to reporters, so I give him an F.
  18. It's interesting to see how many people vote based on his talent. What's funny about that? Are you suggesting that a manager shouldn't be judged on the teams performance relative to the talent? Should he have been expected to win 90 games back in 2003? Seems to me those that have made up their minds that Ned is bad want to have it both ways...He was bad back then - and was the reason they have been bad, but now that the players are better, so we still don't have to give him any credit, or consider him competent. If we had the 2003 roster, and were way out of the playoff chase -- with crappy players -- would Yost get a D? Silly question, but no, many here in the lunatic fringe would give him an F, desperately wanting to believe that if only we had a different manager, the team would be better. Anyway, that's not the case, we are here in 2008 with the second best record in the national league, holding the wildcard -- with good players -- and many still choose to give him less than even an average grade, pretty much for one reason -- they made up their minds long ago that he was a bad manager due to how the Brewers played with bad players, and are unwilling to look at him objectively.
  19. Ummm...no. The problem is when he gets lit up again and it turns into an 11-7 game, you'd have to bring in Villanueva or someone else today anyway...so now you have two guys unavailable for tomorrow. Of course that would give people something else to criticize Yost about, so its all good. The starting pitchers have been taking a toll on the bullpen the past week or so, and someone has to get the outs. Weren't a whol lot of other options.
  20. Are we all assuming the Brewers have Parra' limit at about 160-165 innings? If so, isn't that about exactly where he's headed - regular season only? If so, I say you keep him right where he is, in the groove that he seems to be in, until he shows signs of struggling, tiring, etc. If that hapens to be in September, so be it. In the meantime, you stack up as many victories as you can. When Suppan returns, you send McClung back the the bullpen, and I think its a pretty easy decision.
  21. I said many, not all. If you don't fall in that group, fine, but in my opinion, they're out there.
  22. The only problem with this line of thinking is that it assumes Jim Hendry is a complete buffoon who doesn't do his homework, and/or that he simply fell victim to desperation after the CC Sabathia acquisition by the Brewers. I could see the latter having a minor impact, but I frankly don't buy either one.
  23. I'd agree. Many have made up there minds, and seemingly have given up on objectivity for fear that they may have to change them.
  24. I hate to even bring this up, but what has Turnbow been doing in Nashville? Any hope at all there?
  25. Is this not all determined by the contracts...at least as far as the flagship is concerned, in terms of which must be carried in any given situation?
