1. Okay. I just sent Trenni some pictures of dead bodies, and left a mutilated doll on her doorstep. That ought to make her stay...
2. But I love her...
3. I'm not sure where you are getting this from, but it is not accurate at all. The infield gets stepped on a lot. Especially the real problem areas, like between the mound and the plate will get walked on after every single pitch as the pitcher goes to receive the throw from the catcher. That area needs to be re-sodded several times per season as is, and adding UWM games would make it even worse. Every time a ground ball is hit, it skids along the infield grass. And the outfield is hardly a "non-issue." Have you seen how bad it looks sometimes mid-season where the fielders stand? Even if this new grass is better than the old stuff, the problem still remains that it won't be getting a lot of sunlight. This means that the roots never grow very deep. 20 extra games a year would definitely affect the playing surface, even if you say it won't (with no real reasoning or evidence to back up your claim).
4. That's one idea, but who really knows? Maybe he'll express an interest in grass, and be named the new Head Groundskeeper. Or maybe he likes to tinker and try to fix stuff. Make him Miller Park's Head of Maintenance. I bet he likes hotdogs -- Director of Concessions!
5. For what it's worth, I agree. The tipping point for me was seeing that discussion about Mike Cameron's role for the 2009 season was added onto the thread from when he was signed nearly a year ago. That's pretty crazy. What to do with Cam for 2009 should probably be allowed to have a new thread. The other one is over 20 pages. Like twobrewers, I rarely even bother looking in those threads because it's just too much. You'd have to read too much back-logged info to actually join the discussion, and trying to find starting and stopping points within the thread is bothersome.
6. I don't know. Ned's approval rating on this site was lower last season than it ever was before, and that was when the team was like 20 games over .500.
7. I have a hefty friend (with lots of back hair), who went as Adam one year. He wore nothing but a flesh colored woman's thong with a fig leaf attached to the front. Even though he was wearing only that, he managed to sweat profusely for the entire night while we were attending parties. It was horrifying.
8. It was nice to see him get the ring, but more importantly he was able to contribute something in the clinching game. He had a pretty poor season, and was hitless in the postseason before tonight, so he was probably feeling like he was just along for the ride. I'm pretty happy for him.
9. Even if this grass is better and more durable than the old stuff, I don't see why it would be a good idea to put extra wear and tear on it with a college baseball team. Unless letting UWM play there brings in lots of money, everything in the Brewers' power should be done to keep the field in the best possible condition for when the Brewers play on it.
10. I would relish the opportunity to fill out a scouting report like that on Ned Yost.
11. I'm going as Billy Idol this year. My girlfriend is looking for ideas, so if anybody has any cheap ideas for girl costumes (not "a slutty _____" please!), it would be appreciated.
12. Alright. Time to 'fess up. You're not fooling anyone. I know you have one. To keep it interesting, no athletes allowed. Otherwise everybody will just say JJ Hardy or Ryan Braun. As for me, it's none other than Vince Vaughn. The guy just oozes awesomeness, and he got into a bar fight while defending Steve Buscemi after Buscemi got stabbed in the face. I wish I did that. http://www.oops-itsout.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/01/vince_vaughn_1648547.jpg
13. Then address it in those threads. I was under the impression that the vent thread was for venting about baseball related stuff, not venting about what other people on the site think and/or post about. It was basically a post trying to disprove what people are venting about and tell them they are wrong, which has been discouraged numerous times.
14. Hi there. Looks like you're lost. This is the Vent Thread. This is a thread where people come to vent their frustrations about the Brewers. It's clearly marked, so when the Brewers (a team with many warts who will soon lose their 2 best pitchers) fail to show up for a playoff series, you probably shouldn't be surprised to find venting. There are many happy thoughts at other locations in the Major League forum, but I'm not sure why anybody would come to this thread to find those. I'm sure in all the confusion, your 'forced positivity' was posted here in error. Here, try this thread. Have a great day!
15. I think if Dale Sveum is named the permanent manager, my interest level in next year's team is going to plummet. Clean house and bring in a whole new coaching staff. Please.
16. Sveum and the Brewers are getting exactly what they deserve for starting Suppan today.
17. Some 2008 statistics to consider: STAT NL RNK RUNS 750 7th BA .253 12th OBP .325 10th SLG .431 5th OPS .757 6th HR 198 3rd RISP .245 15th K 1203 5th I think it's fair to say that looking at the most important end of the season stat, runs scored, the Brewers had a very average offense. The only major category they cracked the top 4 in was homeruns. The batting average and on base percentage were really pretty poor, and their slightly above average slugging didn't seem to be enough to overcome that and make them a good offense. Now, there seem to be two schools of thought. 1. The offense performed below expectations. Nearly every player finished below their PECOTA projections. A few minor tweaks should be made (most importantly 3B), but if most of the guys stay in tact, the offense should improve on its own. Guys should bounce back to their expected production levels, and some (like Braun) will improve even more as they have gained more experience. 2. This offense needs a big-time overhaul. An average offense is not good enough, and hoping that players progress back to the mean is simply not enough (and remember, the projections figure to be lower with all of the sub-par batting this season). The construction of the offense is geared too much toward the homerun ball, and will prevent the team from becoming a good or great offense, and they will be too inconsistent. Changes (perhaps dramatic) need to be made in order to get the 2009 offense to be where we need it. Where do you stand? Who stays and who goes? What types of players (specific examples encouraged) would you like to replace them with? Would you be willing to do something dramatic like trade Fielder? Would you pick up Cameron's option? Do you want Weeks somewhere in the lineup again? Would you stay with Corey Hart as a starter again for another year?
18. How was it not routine? It didn't bounce. He didn't have to jump or stretch. The throw hit him right in the glove as he was standing on the base. If that's not "routine" for a Major Leaguer in his 4th year, then I don't know what is... And it wouldn't have been a DP, because in order to turn a DP, Weeks would have again been required to catch a ball directly in his glove -- which is obviously something he can't be counted on to do.
19. I hope he's gone. This isn't the first time he's dropped a throw right in his glove. It's happened multiple times this season alone. At some point, you just can't have stuff like that. He botches too many routine plays, and his strikeout ladened .740 OPS doesn't come close to making up for his pitiful defense and silly baserunning decsions in my mind. I've seen enough.
20. I'm going to wear pants when I leave the house, for as long as the Brewers are in the playoffs.
21. - Get the MLB Players' Union to disband - Convince Jeffrey Hammonds to kindly pay back the $22 million he received from the Brewers, plus interest
22. 1. Gallardo/Bush 2. Sabathia 3. Suppan 4. Gallardo/Bush 5. Sabathia
23. Mets lose! Milwaukee Brewers are in the playoffs!!!!!!
