  1. I suspect the Royals will watch their guys for a while to see who pans out. For the first time in forever, they have a solid group of young guys to run out there. Some will pan out, some will not....if they do decide to move Teahen, why not wait until you're sure of what your needs truly are for the longterm? I see no reason at all for them to rush into moving Teahen, if he does the job in the OF, he's filling a need for them, and he hasn't gotten too expensive to keep yet.
  2. So you've got arguably the least talented MLB roster at the moment, and you're being picked on at every turn, what to do for an encore? How about screwing up the delivery of season tickets? Let's alienate our most ardent supporters... www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/26/AR2007032601720.html
  3. Won't Johnson be out until late May/early June? I really like his talent, but right now I can't list him as a positive for this season.
  4. For those keeping score, the Nats have handed their 1B job over to Dmitri Young, by default. Travis Lee requested his release, Nick Johnson is healing a broken leg. Nook Logan would have been the Opening Day CF, but he has a groin injury, the new CF is Ryan Church, the new LF is coming straight from AA. Honestly, how bad do you think this team will be this year? Most of their players seem to be spot fillers with no upside, and they're in a tough division. I'll say they go 55-107. What's your bet?
  5. After all of the "Take my pitcher...please" stuff from the Phillies....it appears as though Jon Lieber will start the season on the DL with a strained oblique. It's possible Garcia won't be ready either. If you think there's such a thing as "too much pitching"....you are wrong.
  6. This, from Peter Gammons over the weekend....
  7. Haven't the Phils pulled Lieber off the market, pending Garcia's status?
  8. The only reason I said LF is, Melvin has said several times that he stuck Hall in CF right now because he doesn't want to move him twice. I know the team doesn't want to leave Weeks at leadoff for the longterm, Gwynn at least has a chance to become that guy, so I'm betting they'd either stick him in LF, or pursue next year's version of Dave Roberts for the same spot.
  9. I don't think Gwynn's going anywhere....watch this, next year he'll be starting in LF and batting leadoff. I can't wait for the reaction on this board.
  10. I was never hazed either, in fact I had a totally opposite beginning here. I got a PM from a moderator, asking me to submit my first article to the site, about two months after I started posting regularly. It's all in the approach. New posters should think about what they're saying..."I'm new here, this is what I think" will get you a lot further than "This is the way it is, and I say so." The regulars here have no business hazing new guys, and blatant sarcasm just isn't necessary. This site is what it is because of the excellent information and the informed opinions that are shared here. Lowering standards is not the way to go, just make sure you're talking "to" a new poster, rather than talking "at" them. No one wants to be in that position, it's an immediate turn-off.
  11. I agree with Al, this isn't about Cordero, it's about having a very good closer on a team that can't win. Watch teams like the Indians and Red Sox, if their bullpens struggle early, Cordero could certainly move.
  12. The Phils have moved Lieber to the bullpen. milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070321&content_id=1853137&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp
  13. I'm glad this thread is here, I think it's easy for regulars here to get sarcastic with new people, or even to think they're joking when they ask a question we may find absurd. Be careful though, the knowledge base at this site is outstanding, don't expect a guy in rookie ball to hit major league breaking stuff in his first post.
  14. That move doesn't make sense to me right now. At the very least, I'd think the Brewers would either get a prospect in the deal, or some of the difference in money. I have nothing against Lieber, but the only spot I could see him in right now is long relief, at a very steep price.
  15. As the new season approaches, a few things are building up, waiting to bug me in the near future..... Yankees/Red Sox every 7 minutes on ESPN. John Kruk on ESPN. Cold Pizza on ESPN. Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio. Chris Berman, fifteen years past his prime on ESPN. 9,000 "Will Clemens Retire?" updates on ESPN Bill Schroeder on FSN....hey, how'd that get in here?
  16. His answers are short and to the point, hopefully his climb through the system will be too. My oldest son, Brent, is watching closely.
  17. The packaging on CDs and DVDs bugs me....I don't believe it should take 15 minutes to open something I paid for.
  18. I saw the last couple of innings, I remember exactly where I was, etc when that game took place. Wow, that's fun...Mark Brouhard and Marshall Edwards...where are they now?
  19. Watching it snow, while my boss tells me how he spent the whole day in his yard in North Carolina.
  20. Two homers, four hits, and a throw into the dugout...meet Ryan Braun.
  21. Oh yeah, before I forget...Maple Nut ice cream bugs me....it's ice cream, make it taste good or you've defeated the purpose.
  22. Take a cab ride in NYC now thats exciting The ride I was referring to took place in Orlando. This huge Haitian cabbie cranked his reggae up to max volume, and he was just belting it out, singing along as loud as he could. Every time he saw a "hot chick" he'd pull up next to her on the freeway and then go whatever speed she was going until he got the dirty look, or the hand gesture. My boss and I got a good laugh out of it later, but that guy has no business driving.
  23. Closers are weird, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Turnbow bounced back. Look at the careers of Doug Jones, Todd Jones and Jose Mesa....these guys had seasons were they were absolutely awful, only to bounce back and be highly effective again, sometimes it happens. Would I deal Turnbow for Upton, yes, right now. I wouldn't do it to ditch Turnbow, but to get the younger, more versatile player. If Upton can ever figure out a defensive position, he offers more to a team than a guy who pitches an inning at a time. A closer would have to be an all-time great to keep me from dealing him.
  24. No, in fact I wouldn't trade Jenkins at all right now. The team can be done with his contract after this season, they've got the personnel to play him at his best defensive postion, and match him up successfully in a platoon situation...that works for me. The outfield seems terribly crowded right now, but without making a move, it's very possible that Clark, Jenkins and Mench will all be gone following this season. It's not ideal, but we aren't locked into a logjam for several seasons, it'll clear itself up.
  25. I think Gillespie has a chance to be that LF...and I doubt Sheets will still be here in 2010....I like it overall though.
