Yo had good stuff tonight, but it looked like he went from cruising to tired in one move. That has happened several times this season, I really think his "stuff" is fine...this may be conditioning and WBC impact. Yo went six with a WHIP of 1, but managed to give up 3 ER, which is about as bad as the ERA could have been for his effort. If I were a scout at that game, I'd give a favorable report, but with the caveat of the fatigue happening fast. If teams try to lowball the Brewers, I'd be willing to keep Yo right where he is, I'd bet he'll do better, not worse.

Tyler's mom sent me this summary of his game today... Tyler held the Presstman Cardinals scoreless for seven innings to help the Southern Maryland Nationals to a 1-0 victory, he allowed six hits, one walk and struck out nine.

I think what the scout said about Yo pitching in the WBC is exactly right, which means his current issues may correct themselves. The Brewers will have to decide if they believe Yo will rebound, if they do, and other teams are trying to buy low...right now won't be the time to deal him.

Monty, what I'm saying, exactly, is...Lohse as a pitcher has plenty of value, but the contract he signed diminishes some of that value, given his age. In most cases, I think teams would just deal for Lohse, just as they would have gladly signed him for two years, but they didn't want to go to three. I just think the Brewers may be asked to get rid of that third year, and they only way to do that is to send the money for it. The team getting Lohse wouldn't clear one penny in the deal, because they'd have to pay that money to Lohse, so your point about 15 million dollars buying a good prospect doesn't exactly match the way I see this. In any event, I think teams will want Lohse, which is all I care about.

Monty, in today's game, the money doesn't have to be what it used to be. The Brewers are on the hook for two more seasons...if they kick in half of what's owed, they can get the prospects they're after, and the other team is only paying for next season. This would get someone else a good pitcher, and it actually gets the Brewers out of one season of the deal they've already guaranteed.

Cleveland is on Yo's no-trade list. I have no idea if he'd approve a deal or not, but that's an issue to consider.

I don't know if it's a ploy to try to drive up his value, but Jon Heyman has a post today saying the Cubs are now considering signing Matt Garza, rather than trading him.

I decided to stick this here, instead of creating a new thread for it... Adam McCalvy's tweet, before today's game with the Mets: It's standing room only in the press box dining room because of all the scouts here tonight. Tigers, O's, Cardinals among the many. Teams could be scouting Mets, but if it's Brewers they were after, I would assume it's the relievers, since neither Gallardo or Lohse pitched today.

Let me adjust my GM hat here...if I'm looking to trade for a SP right now...I would have more interest in Kyle Lohse than either Gallardo or Garza. Lohse is really pitching well, and he's under club control beyond this season. My guess is, someone is already pushing for him. Some will say teams won't want his contract, but look at what just happened with Nolasco. Teams were offering better prospects if the Marlins would pick up some of the money, or lesser prospects if they had to pay all of the money themselves. The Brewers have already committed to a total of 33 million for Lohse, that's done. They could agree to pay part of what he's still owed, to get a deal done. It gets Milwaukee out of part of the money, and it gets some good talent over here, while getting the other team a good, experienced pitcher, who won't leave after two months of baseball. If I wanted a quick deal for this season, sure, I'd ask about Garza. If I wanted a young, affordable pitcher, who will be here again next year, I'd ask for Gallardo. If I wanted the best combination of results, and contract, right now, that's Kyle Lohse. Depending on how high a team is willing to go with prospects, Lohse plus a bullpen arm, would probably get the Brewers the best return right now. I'd watch for Arizona, the Dodgers, Cleveland, and possibly both Texas and Boston to ask for Lohse and a reliever. Someone will probably get Garza first, because it's an easier deal to work out, but once he's gone, this is actually the deal I expect to see. The thing starts with a team offering lower prospects for Lohse, then Melvin says he has to have more. The other team mentions the money left on Lohse's deal, so Melvin adds a reliever to the mix, to get the other team into the prospects he wants. The other guy wants the reliever, so he moves, but he still can't take on that money. In the end, either the other guys stop right there, paying Lohse's contract, while giving the group of prospects they want to give...good, but not as good as it might have been, or the Brewers put some dollars on the table, to get the prospects they really want.

Even though his ERA got screwed in the end, I thought Yo was much better tonight. He wasn't great, but he was good, and with a solid team behind him, he'd be fine...which is exactly who I think he is. I would trade for him. I would not give up a top 20 prospect in a deal for him, but I might give up a top 50, depending on where my team stood, and how deep its farm system was at the time. I have a feeling scouts who saw him tonight will essentially draw the same conclusion...get him if you want him, but don't go crazy.

At the time I'm starting this thread, I believe the Brewers are in line for the 3rd overall pick in 2014, I'll give you a few names to consider...have fun... Tyler Beede, RHP, Vanderbilt Nick Burdi, RHP, Louisville Jacob Gatewood, SS, Clovis HS (CA) Alex Jackson, C, Rancho Bernardo HS (CA) Carlos Rodon, LHP, NC State I think it'll be one of the pitchers, of course the Brewers' draft position could change along the way, but based on what I know today, I'll say they take Tyler Beede. Beede was Toronto's first-round pick in 2011. Beede has number one starter potential, and, as much as you can say this about a kid in his position, he may be a safe selection. He has three plus pitches, the fastball, curve and change. I believe Rodon will be picked either 1 or 2, and I think the team will go with one of the arms.

I'd like to know, (and I'm sure we'll find out), which team is hesitant at this point. Based on Gallardo's stats this season, it could be AZ, but I'm not convinced the Brewers have decided to deal Yo yet either. I think this deal will happen, it fits what each team is looking for, and AZ can afford to move prospects who happen to match what the Brewers need most at the moment.

Here's Tyler's latest message... Just threw in relief because my game got rained out yesterday, so I split the game with the starter. 5 innings, 8 Ks, no runs. Throwing hard, but I don't know how hard exactly.

He's certainly earned the promotion, now we'll see if his stuff translates to the big leagues. Hellweg's a weird case, the guy can hit 100 MPH, with poor command, so we've got this big, hard-throwing ground ball specialist. Almost anything could happen...good luck Johnny!

Yes, Nate, that's right. The system is weird right now, so teams are taking signable guys in rounds 6-10, a lot of college seniors...then they're paying guys who were tougher signs, in round 15, etc. This is going to make for some funny looking stuff when 7th rounders are cut and 18th rounders play in the majors for ten seasons.
