  1. This was just stupid, Yo wasn't the first, and he won't be the last. He should just be glad it ended in an arrest, as bad as that is, it could be MUCH worse. There's no excuse, he shouldn't have done it.
  2. I'm sure the team that drafted Jeff Clement in 2005 is pretty upset about that right now too...every team could make a list like that one. A much better point, perhaps...the Brewers DID draft Garciaparra, and he DID agree to sign...then the Brewers called back and tried to cut the signing bonus, after they had agreed to an amount. Nomar went to college instead, in his own words, "I never even called Milwaukee back."
  3. One in a row baby, one in a row!
  4. "I never hit him on purpose. I never even thought about hitting him on purpose. He always seems to think I'm hitting him on purpose and that's not the case. That's all I have to say." -Zack Greinke
  5. TLB, that's the third time Greinke has hit Quentin in their careers, and yes, Kemp had a pitch thrown over his head earlier, but they replayed the entire sequence of pitches in the AB, and nothing else was anywhere near Quentin. In a one-run game, leading off an inning, on a 3-2 pitch, I just can't believe the HBP was intentional. One other thing I can believe though, it looked a bit like Quentin wasn't coming out there, and that quite possibly Greinke said something to him, and then he charged him. I hope we hear from Quentin, if he charged him because he thinks he was thrown at, I just plain don't buy it. Don Mattingly is all over Quentin, questioning his baseball acumen not-so-politely, and calling for Quentin to be suspended for as long as Greinke is out.
  6. If you haven't seen it yet, in a 1-run game, on a 3-2 pitch, Zack Greinke hit Carlos Quentin with a pitch, and Quentin charged the mound. Greinke turned to one side and absorbed the charging Quentin with his left shoulder, before winding up at the bottom of a pile of players in what became a bench-clearing brawl. The Dodgers have just announced, Greinke broke his collarbone. First of all, Quentin is an idiot, there's no way that's intentional in a situation like that. Second of all...wow.
  7. This whole story just keeps getting weirder. MLB has purchased Biogenesis documents from an employee, and apparently, players were attempting to purchase documents, to destroy them. The next chapter... http://www.jsonline.com/sports/national/mlb/report-baseball-pays-for-clinic-documentse8ed7e4bf68044febc79791983346f40-202639071.html
  8. The thing that bums me out is, Ramirez' injury comes with Hart already out, which leaves such a big hole in the offense. Either they bring Aramis back as soon as they can, to get a bat back out there, or they leave him out until he's truly ready to come back, by which time, they may be buried in the standings. There's no happy answer, either they risk further injury, or they play on without their 4 and 5 hitters. I prefer the big picture approach, I think they should sit Aramis until he's healed, but I'll bet they go they other way, and push him back out there.
  9. Pay attention to this story - it may very well signal the start of a new era. The Dodgers' reason for doing this was to get Harang off the books, to save money. They poured a bunch of money into this deal, literally, just get him off the books...because keeping him would have increased their luxury payroll tax by more than what they gave the Rockies to take him. The Dodgers cut their tax, and the Rockies wound up with a million bucks in the exchange, if this catches on, we'll see the biggest market teams do this all day long.
  10. The Brewers have said the MRI on Ramirez' knee revealed no ligament tears, which of course they are happy about, I haven't heard much else on it. I haven't heard anything to make me think this is a major injury, but since Ramirez said it had remained sore since he hurt it in Spring Training, I assumed he'd be out more than 15 days, to let it heal.
  11. I agree, Valpo, the throw dipped, but it looked to me like Rickie just didn't get to it.
  12. Tracy Ringolsby, who covers the Rockies, was just on the MLB Network, check this out... Colorado traded Ramon Hernandez to the Dodgers, for Aaron Harang - the Rockies have now DFA'd Harang. The deal is this, LA picked up all of Harang's salary, and threw in an extra million. No matter what happens, the Rockies just saved a million dollars, which will pay for Jon Garland, who was a recent add. There are teams who have interest in Harang...the Red Sox, the Orioles, and Houston for sure, and possibly the Angels now that Weaver is out. If the Rockies can't find a trade, they simply let Harang go, and they've made a good financial move, and if they get a player for him, that's obviously a win. The Rockies can pass along the cash to pay for Harang, making him free for the team that gets him, he won't impact payroll. I give Colorado credit for trying this, John Lackey and Jered Weaver have both gone down in recent days, and we all know "pitchers get hurt"...they may find a market for a guy they never had any intention of keeping.
  13. I couldn't remember how the DL worked when a player was hurt to start a season, I thought you could back date it for a week or so before the season, but maybe not. Whether Hart can come back with a week left in May, or nothing left in May, it seems the original projection was accurate. He tried to get back faster, but obviously, that's not going to be the case. However you break it down, 16 catchers, 14 shortstops, 9 guys named Eugene...this team has a major storm to weather before they can field the team they thought they'd have. By the time June gets here, we're either going to be in love with some of these young guys, or we'll all be up in Appleton, watching the kids in A-ball.
  14. Narveson to DL, Lalli up, Hart to 60-Day. This does not mean Hart starts a fresh 60 days right now, I'm not sure what date he'll be eligible to come off, but since he's already expected to be out until sometime in May, transferring him to the 60-Day shouldn't be a big deal.
  15. Yep, that's exactly why Lyle went with Boston, he knew Hart would be back, and with no DH, he's either going to be a bench guy with Gamel out, or he's going to be cut in May.
  16. Yes, logan, the Brewers made a real attempt to sign Overbay. If you Google it, it's there, late January.
  17. The writer makes his points, but this made me laugh out loud. In criticizing the team for being down to Gonzalez and Betancourt at the corner infield spots on Sunday, he says... "Injuries to Corey Hart, Mat Gamel, and Aramis Ramirez are partially to blame." That's deep. Oh, and anyone who writes how a team may, "be boned", has lost me from that point on.
  18. Logan, before that, when Overbay signed with Boston, he chose them over the Brewers, then they cut him, and New York claimed him.
  19. I don't think carrying 13 pitchers has caused a problem for this team. I think lousy pitching by the pitchers they're carrying, combined with an offense that began without it's 5 hitter, lost it's 4 hitter, went a series without it's perennial MVP candidate, and is still missing it's young shortstop is why the team started 1-5. The team tried to sign Lyle Overbay, but he went somewhere else, because he knows Hart will be back, and in the NL, that means no playing time for Lyle. Yes, they could have signed someone else, but they chose to sign Betancourt. That's just the way that one is, if that issue overrides the ridiculous list of injuries, the bad pitching, a broken bat flying at the first baseman to destroy an inning, a wild pitch actually scoring two runs...you get where I'm at on this, I think it's just a completely horrible start, much more than I think it's roster construction.
  20. Here's his latest look... http://minors.mlblogs.com/2013/04/08/a-top-100-update/
  21. In his postgame press conference, Roenicke said he didn't like sending Axford back out there for a second inning either, but that he really had no better options, because the bullpen is already getting thin. Think about that, game six went extra innings, and the manager made what he knew was a high risk decision, because the bullpen is already stressed. What a completely disgusting start to a season.
  22. It really is amazing, the Brewers haven't caught one break yet. The broken bat that flew at Gonzalez to open up a big inning, the ball Gonzalez just smoked right at the third baseman with the bases loaded and nobody out, Braun gets hurt in BP of all things...it has to get better than this.
  23. Guys, please just move on so I don't have to lock this thread.
  24. This happening at any point in a season stinks, this happening to start the season just sucks the life out of the whole thing. Last year, the June-July performance of the bullpen kept this team out of the playoffs, this year, we're probably playing a month without the 4-5 hitters, which will kill this season, right out of the gate. If things go the way I expect them to for the next month, I'll just hope for development from the pitchers over the course of this year, and go from there.
