  1. Any of you would love Rollie, he's a fun, friendly guy who is more than willing to talk baseball. He's got kids of widely varying ages, from multiple relationships, as SuperCollector said, maybe he's just decided it's easier to split money in an estate, than to decide which kid gets the best trophies. Vada Pinson's daughter sold a bunch of her dad's awards after he passed, and Vada III is still upset over it, maybe Rollie just wants to avoid that kind of conflict.
  2. Never underestimate the power of the dark side...
  3. Bradley and Roache mean a TON right now. The Brewers have a lot of prospects who will play in the big leagues, but they don't have the obvious future stars. If Bradley gets it back and Roache looks like the guy before the injury...presto...they have two.
  4. Rollie's tax issue was more noise than substance. When I talked to him about it, he said his taxes had been paid on time, but some of his returns were filed late, so he had to pay a settlement to the State of Wisconsin to cover that. Years ago, shortly after his retirement from baseball, Rollie filed bankruptcy. I don't know if he's having financial issues, or if he just decided he'd rather have cash than trophies, he's got adult children, but some younger ones too.
  5. If rams calling my logic, "silly" is the worst that ever happens to me...I win at life.
  6. Rams, I love the guy, and I'm glad the Brewers picked him, I'm making one point here, and it's just the way I see it. In the Baseball America Prospect Handbook, Roache was listed as the Brewer's #7 overall prospect, three spots behind Morris. Jonathan Mayo has him at #8, three spots behind Morris. You and I both know, without the injury, Victor Roache is picked long before the Brewers get a shot at him last year. We also know, without the injury, nobody would use Morris' AA stats to say he's a better bet than Roache. The injury happened, and he still hasn't played a game, that's my only point here, and obviously, I'm not the only one who thought so. I mean no disrespect to you, and I'm sure you mean no disrespect to me, but I feel the way I feel on this one. As soon as Roache gets rolling, no problem, but until I see it, I'm not taking this particular kid, at this particular time, and simply assuming he's back to what he had been. I know where you're coming from, and if you make your rankings based strictly on potential, you're right, I just think this particular case is unique, because of the injury. Roache simply hasn't had a chance yet to show us that all is well, when he does, I'm all over it, until he does, he's back a few spots for me.
  7. You're right, rams, that is just silly, you just used Stephen Strasburg to make a point about Victor Roache. Come on now, I haven't said anything against Roache, other than he hasn't played a single game yet, so I'm not willing to declare him the best position player the Brewers' system has. He's a power hitter coming off a significant injury, I love the pick, and I haven't seen a reason to think he won't have a great career in the big leagues. The problem is, I haven't seen anything to make me think he WILL have that career either, because he hasn't even played yet. Without the injury, even without one AB...no problem, he's my pick for the top of this list, but that's not the case here, that wasn't a groin pull, that was the type of injury that has the potential to wreck a career. I would consider a guy like Strasburg in a different light than most other draft picks, yes, but if Strasburg had been drafted following, for instance, a shoulder injury that had shut him down for basically a full year when it came time to rank prospects...I absolutely would have waited to see him pitch before I assumed anything.
  8. My point is not so much to promote Morris, although I do think he deserves more respect than he's getting, my point is, Roache hasn't seen a pitch yet. Obviously, the Brewers are betting on Roache being a big deal, and that would put a huge smile on my face, but there's no way I'm going to rate a kid who hasn't played yet over a guy who just an excellent season at the AA level. By the end of this season, sure, maybe, but based on zero pro games, I just can't do that.
  9. They're working Lohse in, I wouldn't be surprised if Peralta is up and down to begin the season, and Hart is out...I don't see any better than .500 in April. 13-13
  10. I certainly hope they're right on Roache, but ranking him at #3 in the system, and saying there is no question he is the best position player in the system, despite not having made his pro debut, is not something I can agree with. They may very well be right, and it's exactly what we should all be rooting for, but there's a player in the system who has been an MVP at AA, for instance, I just think it's too soon to write Roache in as the best we've got.
  11. The bullpen was great today, Henderson in particular. I felt bad for Axford, one run in five innings works for me, it's too bad it came with a blown save.
  12. It seems as though the new rules are having an impact on Lord Boras. Would it be, could it be, Mr Scott isn't so hell-bent on taking every possible player to free agency? When Carlos Gomez signed an extension with Milwaukee, on the eve of his contract year, it made me stop and think. I don't ever remember a Boras client doing that. The Yankees and Robinson Cano continue to negotiate a new deal, whether it happens remains to be seen, but the conversation continues, and tonight, Ken Rosenthal reports a new deal is close for Elvis Andrus in Texas. The number he floated is 8 years/120 million. On the heels of both Michael Bourn and Kyle Lohse getting less money than anyone thought they would, I believe Mr Boras is recognizing a changing of the times. Good.
  13. I wish I could convey Denny's tone. He was fine, and pleasant, but if you read the remarks about Tim McCarver, and the later remarks, where I tried to draw a parallel between his career, and Justin Verlander's...his responses were immediate, and sharp.
  14. I always like to guess at this stuff, then look back after the season and see how horribly I've done. http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=979
  15. If that happens, the man has the skills to win the MVP.
  16. 6-4-3, I'm with you, this team has plenty of guys who have a shot at a major league career. They're all on the lower end of the Brewers' ladder right now, some guys are coming off injury, and some guys are very young...this group right here has a chance to change some opinions out there.
  17. Darwin Barney suffered a deep cut on his knee today, he will miss Opening Day, and the DL is a possibility.
  18. Here's the roster... http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130330&content_id=43551248&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t572&sid=t572
  19. I see the Wisconsin roster, but I don't see Victor Roache...am I overlooking it, or is he not there? http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130330&content_id=43551248&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t572&sid=t572
  20. For those of you who don't know, Denny McLain is the last pitcher to win 30 games in a MLB season - he won 31 in 1968. Denny was a great pitcher, with a career shortened by injury. His personal life has been all over the place - I didn't dig into much of that today, because I wanted a good baseball conversation, and heck, it's the man's birthday. I hope you like it. http://www.baseballintheblood.com/?p=952
  21. Love this, from Mike Gianella, at Baseball Prospectus... Anyone who guessed that Jason Bartlett would have produced the most WAR of the players in the Delmon Young/Matt Garza trade is a witch.
  22. Shawn Marcum will open the season on the DL...here's to Lohse being Marcum with durability.
  23. Appleton should have good talent this year, I'll have to make a run up there this season.
  24. As the big time dominoes continue to drop, I expect Kershaw to be next.
  25. Several teams have gone to watch Jose Valverde throw. I have no idea if the Brewers have any interest in him at all, but just for BF.net entertainment purposes...I know what I'm hoping for...
