  1. Per Tom Haudricourt's "Draft Might Provide Relief in Long Run," Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel/JSOnline.com: If my memory and Yuku seach skills are accurate, I believe this is the first printed identification of the "performance enhancing drug" Angel was suspended for taking.
  2. Stop in at your favorite local independent bookstore http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/wink.gif It is a very nice photo (and good, fun, fluff of an article).
  3. To change the thread size, click on Navigation > settings (in the Account box) > preferences. And I can also now read your sign http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif And it looks so much better stretched out to fit the window now. Thanks, team BF.net! Edit: and now with smaller font, too!
  4. Or Brad Nelson... But, as someone coincidentally just posted on the Minor League Forum, it would be nice to have him around next year...
  5. I'm going to quote you, too, RyDogg... Agreed on the first two (especially CV), but it could be (and has been) argued that we would be selling high on TBow. As much as I hope Coco can turn it around, having an extra option (and a historically dominant option) to use in high leverage situations would improve the club. As far as those looking for a bat, I'm not convinced there is a viable option for substantial improvement available at the proper position. [I'm not looking to redirect this thread here.]
  6. Just a thought/speculation, regardless of how hard 3-team deals are to orchestrate especially a few hours before the deadline, but... IF the Mets and Yankees are losing ground/interest in Gagne, that leaves us and the BoSox at the front of the line. The BoSox are said to like T-Bow. I don't know what they would give up, but... Brewers get: Gagne Rangers get: Gwynn BoSox SP prospect Red Sox get: Turnbow Obviously, wild and the question would be are the Rangers getting enough for Gagne, which would depend on the prospect. Yeah, I'd love to Laird sent to us, but that's even more complicated. Just a thought to pass the time until nothing happens... http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  7. First, best wishes to your mom. Being informed is very good; it can also be very dangerous, if you aren't good at reminding yourself that these are only possibilities. Some people, tend to focus on the worst case scenario, dwell on it, and it very quickly leads to a very negative attitude. From my experience, what helps most is to always remember you can only take things one step at a time. One gyn/onc visit at a time. One test at a time. One set of results at a time. It is empowering and important to know as much information about the general picture as possible and to have an active dialogue with physicians, but don't let her get ahead of herself. Control the things that are controllable. My two cents from my own experiences. Again, I hope everything turns out as well as possible as your family and friends move forward.
  8. Maybe Chuckie Caufield or Lefave to BC in order to make room for LaPorta in WV? Great to watch another rehabber take a step forward in Perkins. Though, as Toby noted, Stanczyk (among others) deserves a bump, IMO. He's going on his second full year in BC and has improved everything (except his K rate, which is arguably one of the most important stats). Still, I've got my Vinny Rottino goggles on...
  9. Give Minorleaguesplits.com a chance. It's through brewcrewball.com, which I believe is Jeff Sackman's Brewer blog. The above link is for the Brewer's system, but all systems are available. It seems comprehensive for current players, anyway.
  10. Obviously, I'm answering for someone else here, but I think the gist is that Braun himself is unsatisfied with his own approach. He's stated that his pitch selection is not where it needs to be. He's a percfectionist, it seems, and isn't happy with himself for chasing all those low and away breaking pitches. His still feeling the adrenaline, he says. Bill and Brian have been gushing about this the last few games. It's hard to argue with the results, though, regardless of how he feels.
  11. It really is great to be able to watch the Gameday of the AAA Brewers v. Astros while watching the parent clubs on the television, especially tonight. I have no reason to doubt Will Inman Fan and that info sure changes my feelings on Inman's last three outings. Still, he managed to K 4 in 2 innings, shows he isn't afraid to be agressive, even when he's getting knocked around. Not surprising, I guess...
  12. Congrats, and best wishes for a happy, exciting, and long-lasting career with the big club. Remember: it's a long season, so don't get hung up when you haved a few bad games. I'd advise that being a gritty battler in this league isn't always the best attribute. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  13. Hmm... it's only one game obviously, but no Carlos Hereaud sighting yet. I'm drooling to see this kid in action after two years of waiting. It was a treat to see him in the spring box scores. Perhaps, an injury? Good luck on finding out from the AZL, though, huh? It's always fun learning who these kids are, though, especially the Latin American signees who we heard nothing about (which seems to be getting less and less each year, due to the diligent work of MassHaas).
  14. Jeffress has the velocity, which makes his off-speed even more devastating. I read he repeats his delivery well and is "athletic," which we can hope leads to more consistency with command. But, he isn't walking a *ton* of guys and he's certainly getting better results than, say, Mark Rogers was at the same level. Inman, as you wrote, obviously has the command and, from what I remember reading, can throw all his pitches for strikes, is very aggressive, and has a good understanding of how to keep hitters off-balance. While he has the command, I think age is why he's farther in the system the Jeffress. You might write that his command is why Inman is in AA, rather than A+, though. As they say, you can't teach velocity, so I'd think more people would say Jeffress has the higher potential with the plus-plus pitch, but it all depends on his ability to develop another pitch or two he can throw for strikes. Again, I think I remember hearing his fastball doesn't have too much movement, so I don't know if he could succeed at the MLB level with two pitches, if he is to remain a starter. Unless, of course, he develops a plus secondary pitch. It's certainly promising that the Brewers are extending him out to 100 pitches in WV already. Especially for a pitcher that skipped Helena. I love Will Inman, but I don't know if I can bring myself to type that any pitching prospect is a sure thing. I'm anxious to see how he handles AA for the rest of this season, and his last outing was certainly promising. I like Powell's comp yesterday between Villanueva and Inman. I wouldn't mind seeing him in our rotation in 3-4 years. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Just because he throws hard doesn't mean he will be or is better suited for closing.
  15. A very good point that I overlooked. Also, I'm in no hurry to see him bumped, just admiring his stats wrt league and age. Obviously, the more experience behind the dish, the better. It'll be exciting to see how he handles the jump to AA, whenever he gets there.
  16. Lou may be tailing off, but Salome might force the issue in July if he can hold steady. An OPS of .825 in the FSL through 145 ABs is pretty darn good for a just-turned 21 year old catcher--especially with only 17 Ks. He sure can put the bat on the ball.
  17. Touche. I wasn't sure if there was an official slo listing, or if it was solely based on historical data. I didn't know about the 10% reduction goal, either. Thanks for both of those. As for Gindl, I thought I saw it reported as higher than the $144,900 that was later reported, perhaps in a local, hometown daily article on him. I thought is was mentioned at $200k, but I cannot find a link or article to back up the faulty memory. As far as my last comment in the previous post, I meant there are some candidates for over-slot money, that we have yet to sign. I'm specifically thinking about Scarpetta, Hawn, Bell, Hague, Reid, and Zarraga--the late rounders who might honor 4-yr college commits, on whom we took a gamble. I agree it would be nice to pony up to add some more exciting young talent into the system, but I am tempered, as we spent a lot on DFEs and I'd like to know what's out there in Latin America, too.
  18. From the FL Today article at the top of the thread: If he signed for $2M, isn't that technically 15% below slot? Which fits in nicely with you're "Brewers are cheap" theory, X. ;-) Conversely, they did cough it up for Gindl and there are certainly some candidates for over-slot bonuses. I'm looking forward to the International Free Agent signing period, too. Anyone know when, who the big names are, and if we're going to do that discussion here or in the Minor League Forum, as in the past?
  19. Keep in mind that LaPorta is a year older than most college draftees, so perhaps the direct comparisons to historical situations isn't exact in this case. I think the plan all along has been WV. Maybe a day or two in AZ working out, but they (the AZL) don't start to the 23rd. If he signs today, I would guess he'd be in action at WV the first game after their AS break.
  20. Does anyone know who the Brewers have had in for a workout?
  21. Callis' mock draft is up. He has us taking Mesoraco, with Moustakas going to the Nats, Parker to the Cubs, and Porcello falling all the way to the Rangers at 24. His comments mention that not many teams think the Brewers will go against slot recommendations. Other possibilities that he suggests are: Aumont, Parker, and Borbon. So, is Borbon the new "Brewers go cheap" fall-back pick to the national press? Wouldn't he be about a five to fifteen pick reach at 7? Jack Z/Attanasio have a pretty solid record of staying at slot (not going "cheap), so that's a bit irksome. Thanks in advance for all the hard work today, colby, Mass, TC, And That, Brian, and whomever else makes this the best day of the season. Until October, that it. C'mon Moustakas!
  22. Jonathan Mayo's latest mock draft is up. Fun, but nothing new, really. He's got the Brewers taking Jarrod Parker, with Aumont going five (!) to O's. Is it me, or have there been conflicting reports on whether Aumont has pitched well or poorly this spring? FWIW, Moustakas is projected to fall to the D-Backs at #9. 1-10: 1. Price - TB 2. Porcello - KC 3. Vitters- CHN 4. Detwiler - PIT 5. Aumont - BAL 6. Moskos - WAS 7. Parker - MIL 8. Schmidt - COL 9. Moustakas - ARI 10. Wieters - SF I'd be happy with Parker over Aumont, but I would be not happy if we passed on Moustakas. I still don't know about Wieters... I do know in Jack We Trust is second only to In Doug We Trust for me. Is this the year colby hits the pick?
  23. You know a guy is special when a quality start and a better than 1 K/IP causes everyone checking the box score to be just a tad disappointed--regardless of how ridiculous he knows it is. I'm guilty. I haven't been listening to the 'Tees broadcast, but I'm guessing he's been leaving some pitches up in the zone tonight with that 1:9 GB:FB. Another ho-hum night for Lou Palmisano... I have to admit I've been secretly hanging on the Sollmann/Youkilis comp someone made a few weeks ago, but Lou has the higher OBP (.463 to .454 before tonights game). 'Zo Cain making an argument for a second half promotion...
  24. Are those rankings potentially skewed due to the Brewers' lack of sandwich round picks? When the big market teams are constantly picking up high picks due to Type-A and -B FA compensation, I would imagine that the aggregate dollars spent, as well as the average per pick, would be a lot higher than the Brewers, who didn't have a #2 in 2005 and didn't have any supplemental picks over the last few years, right? Plus, we've ponied up quite a bit more than two-thirds of the MLB in international signings the past three years (and DFEs, too). Not Boras money, but $500 to $850k here and there adds up. As always, colby, your work is phenomenal and makes BF a daily event, despite some of the shenanigans and repetitions of the Major League forum side...
