  1. Both the Burnes trade and the Williams trade returned players that could help us immediately. I do wonder if that would be a priority in a Peralta trade as well. Perhaps things just worked out that way, but I suspect it was a targeted approach based on the organization’s “bites of the apple” messaging If the Dodgers decide they want to make a move, I wonder if the Brewers would target someone like Freeland rather than the younger OFs. I don’t think it’s unrealistic to get one of those guys and one of their injured pitchers though
  2. Not a terrible value, but too light to be compelling for the Brewers. They should just keep him, try to make a run next year, and get the comp pick at that price
  3. What’s the O/U on this one, 2.5 runs? Looks like it’s actually 7 runs. They must be anticipating a long rain delay in the 4th that gets both starters out of the game
  4. These DSL prospects are consistently coming stateside and hitting the ground running (and at young ages!). Hard to pick an area where they’ve made the biggest strides over the last 10 years: international scouting/development or pitching development?
  5. Feel pretty confident that Payamps will give a team quality innings this year, but this was the right move. There wasn’t enough upside there to continue to eat up a roster spot
  6. Sure he could have kept him in there, but I don’t think it would’ve been the right decision even with the heavy usage to some of their relievers. Henderson had reached both times against Patrick, has a 167 wRC+ vs. RHP and 18 wRC+ vs. LHP, and Patrick has surrendered a .901 OPS the third time through the order The problem is not getting enough use out of his middle relievers. If you want to make the argument that there was plenty of time to tack on runs, then put Payamps and McGee out there to try and get them to the 8th rather than Anderson and Mears But the biggest problem of all is still the offense. Every game they’re walking a tightrope through the middle innings because they aren’t scoring any runs
  7. Murphy has his share of the blame, but there’s only so much a manager can do when your starters give you 5 innings and your offense is incapable of blowing a game open
  8. What are we going to do when we go to the 11th and we don’t even have Bauers available to come in and pitch!?
  9. At some point the juice isn’t worth the squeeze with Payamps. He has had stretches where he has been a very good arm for us, but it’s getting less and less consistent. How many games does he have to no-show before that good stretch is no longer worth the roster spot?
  10. There’s little to gain from going runner on second with no outs to runner on third with one out If the runner is on first or on first and second, fine try to move them over and eliminate the double play ball
  11. Bunting Ortiz there is just stupid baseball. I don’t care how bad he has been hitting
  12. A softly hit ball like that isn’t going to go far on a missed dive. Have to play that one aggressively with nobody on and nobody out
  13. Where were you the night Turang and Frelick homered in the same game? A historic moment
  14. With each passing AB we get closer and closer to player/coach Jace Peterson at the hot corner
  15. 10 whiffs through 2 innings for Henderson. Truly remarkable what he has done with just two pitches
  16. Yeah I think 40 man spots and the Super 2 date is of greater concern than options
  17. The bat to ball skills and plate discipline give reasons for optimism. We’ve seen contact-oriented guys like Turang and Frelick come up and struggle to make impactful contact before finding their footing a year or two later. The big difference between those guys and Durbin is that they are both gold glovers and Durbin is far from that at 3B
  18. Let’s punch across a few more so we can put Priester out there for another inning or two and save the bullpen
  19. No walks is huge for Priester. There was hard contact today, but it’s not as bad for a guy who gets so many ground balls. Use your defense and make them earn their base runners
