  1. Capra has no place on this roster. Monasterio has at least shown a pulse in the big leagues
  2. The Cubs have played great ball, but I don’t see a roster that the Brewers can’t match. It should be a good race all the way through September
  3. I wonder how often Myers slips like that during bullpens and such. That’s like 5 of them since he debuted last year
  4. Our top 6 hitters by wRC+…just as we all predicted Bauers 158 Frelick 137 Turang 135 Haase 129 Hoskins 127 Durbin 111
  5. They’re always going to rule that one an E6, but it wasn’t deserved. Hoskins makes Rowdy look like a gold glover over there
  6. Defense has been a bit of a letdown this year. Certainly not bad, but they haven’t performed at the same level as previous years
  7. Turang is so locked in right now. Spraying line drives with ease
  8. If you had a 5+ year MLB vet who had never touched a .250 BA, then I think it’s fair to say he’s unlikely to achieve such a number. If you’re talking about a guy with barely a full season of MLB PAs under his belt, then I don’t think it’s fair to box them into whatever their production is to date. Brice Turang was a .220 hitter after his first season and now look where he is. Development takes time and Ortiz certainly may never get there, but it’s too soon to tell I would also say Ortiz is a career shortstop more than a career utilityman. 80% of his innings in the minors came at SS. It is an adjustment to play it at an MLB level and that might be playing a role in his production at the plate, but it’s not like he’s learning a new position
  9. Think it’s mostly just a case of poor luck at this point. You don’t see a lot of rotation tinkering for matchups in April
  10. Who did we piss off to draw so many lefties this year? We comfortably lead the league in PAs against lefties. 79 wRC+ against them…yuck!
  11. What’s happening in Carolina has made it easy to gloss over the fact that we have a 20 year old SS in the Southern League posting a 129 wRC+ and <10% K%. One or two outlier games can really influence season long stats at this point, but seeing Pratt hit the ground running in AA is super exciting
  12. I’d love to see him get a shot in the big leagues tomorrow, but there just aren’t enough ABs to go around and make it worthwhile for his development. Wait for someone to get banged up or until he’s accumulated a few months of AAA ABs before adding him to the 40 man.
  13. Yeah your closer needs to be able to come through in that situation. He couldn’t find the curveball and it became (relatively) easy for hitters to just sit on the fastball there. Lack of execution from a very good reliever deserves most of the blame
  14. Thoughts and prayers to the Carolina League pitchers that have to face this lineup
  15. Yeah the changeup has played a big role in his success this season. From what I can find, it is not a pitch he had last year. Some of the tweets above have a 60 grade on the pitch based on their model, which is huge to add to anyone’s arsenal. Credit to the White Sox or whoever helped him develop the pitch The Brewers were willing to take the calculated risk of not protecting him and it looks like they’re going to get burned. Fireable offense? Not even close, but if they were to stack mistakes like this then it’d merit a discussion
  16. Cost-controlled starting pitching is expensive. There are other avenues they could’ve explored to fill in the gaps right now, but they either really love Priester or think they’re selling high on Rodriguez to make this deal. Let’s hope it works out
  17. The Pipeline podcast mentioned that the Brewers have the fewest 40 FV prospects on their top 30, speaking to the depth of the system. I also don’t think it would be challenging to find ~10 prospects beyond the top 30 that have intriguing upside between recent high school draft picks and high bonus international signings
  18. I think Yoho is ready for the call at any point in time Do they trust Misiorowski’s command enough at this point in time to give him important big league innings? If not, then I don’t see much benefit to starting his clock
  19. Another nice game for Adams (.450) and he may top Trout (.452) for highest Midwest League OBP since 2006 (1652 qualified hitters)
  20. It’s not as fun on paper as last year’s draft, but it’s probably not fair to compare the two. Long way to go, but after 12 months it’s looking better than any draft since I started following This year’s group is an abnormally high variance group with all of the high school pitchers taken. It’s going to take three years to get a strong feel for how good/bad it is. If you look back three years from now and a couple of the high school pitchers look like they would’ve commanded multi-million dollar signing bonuses had they went to college, then this draft was a smashing success. If not, it’s going to be a tough path to calling this one successful
