  1. I can see wear reaching over a barrier or fence towards a ball that is in the air might be a natural instinctive move. However, I will never understand the people that lean over the railing and interfere on a fair ground ball down the line. I still can not get over how often that happens. It angers me every time.
  2. Someone at work was telling me about this doc today. I missed it last night, but I'm going to be sure to catch it next time it's on. So, I'm not sure exactly what they said about Alou and what he said afterwards, but I could swear that a day or two later he came out with a kind of Rodney King "Can't we all just get along" type statement where he was telling people that he over reacted to the situation and that the people of Chicago should not blame Bartman.
  3. Could not have said it better myself BCU. People are taking "You paying attention Milwaukee" (or whatever he said) as being over the top? Really? I think it was great and as the Diamondbacks announcer, of course he's going to be excited. Heck, if it was a game in mid-May with that kind of ending it would still be very exciting.
  4. I'm sure that MLB has all the scenarios mapped out as to who will play at what time this weekend for all the possible scenarios. I really wish that they would just release that and trust that baseball fans would be smart enough to figure it out. I really need to know what time the game will be on Saturday if it's in Milwaukee. edit: Hmmm...it does appear that they have updated things a little since the last time I checked. Still no NL times yet. http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/schedule/ps.jsp
  5. I'm sure many on here are aware of the situation in 1982. Willie Wilson went into the last day of the season with a .332 BA and Yount with a .328 BA. The Royals decided to sit Wilson thinking he would have a better chance of winning the batting crown that way. Yount played (in the division clinching game) and went 3 for 4 and ended up with a .331 average.
  6. My guess is that he bought a ticket for the first game in Milwaukee, whether that be on Saturday or on Tuesday (that's how the tickets are printed).
  7. It will be interesting to see what kind of roles Johah Hill lands going forward. Not just because of this movie, but because of all the weight he lost. He's almost unrecognizable now. I tend to think that some of his extra weight helped him land some of his previous roles. Kind of that "lovable loser" character.
  8. Good question. He wasn't even in the camera frame although he clearly should have been at least somewhere in the neighborhood of the ball. I thought it looked foul. Inning over.Ok, I realize that it's somewhat odd posting about this now. However, I was at the game last night with my son. We were sitting down the 3rd base line not far from where this ball dropped and we were both in shock that Yuni made absolutely no effoer, at all, to go after this ball. I'm not sure if there has ever been another player that I disliked more than Yuni B (even on another team). It was completely inexcusable not to go after that ball and seem to illustrative of his attitude in general.
  9. I understand what you are saying. I was in no way suggesting that these intangibles are the main reason an individual or team does well or performs poorly. However, if you take two teams that have the same "talent" statistically, I believe these intangibles will be a large reason why one team will end up with more wins than the other team.
  10. One of the reasons I fell in love with Baseball as a kid was because of all the numbers and stats. Measuring players against one another based on their stats seemed to be easier to do than in any other sport. Also, there was such a rich history of records and stats and there was always this thought that maybe someday someone will break DiMaggios hitting streak, or Aaron's HR record, Maris' 61 HRs, etc (the steroid era kind of took something away from some of the power records). I have nothing against today's "stat geeks". I find them to be usually pretty intelligent and well informed about the game of baseball. However, I will say there is a certain population of so called "stat geeks" that tend to scoff at anything that can not be quantified. They push aside things like team chemistry, momentum,, hustle as if they have nothing to do with the success of an individual player or team. I completely disagree with this line of thinking. Anyone who has ever been involved in sports, and has sat in a dugout, or on a bench with your teammates realizes that there are a lot of intangibles that are just as much a part of the game as anything else. Things that can not simply be explained in a box score. As Yogi Berra said, "50% of the game is half mental"
  11. Thread was deleted until after the Brewers actually clinch. Wow...people are overly superstitious.
  12. Yeah, I actaully like it as well.
  13. I'm posting this here because I don't know where else to post it. There was a thread that I saw less then an hour ago regarding post-season merchandise. I posted a response and suddenly the entire thread is gone?? What happened to it?
  14. Are those Central times? I'm hoping that if the Brewers are at home that day that the game is at 3:30 or later. My son has a football game at noon that day (figures it's pretty much his only game that does not start at 9am). While I'm sure he will just miss his youth football game to attend the the playoff game, I'm hoping he will be able to both.
  15. For whatever reason, I have not been able to post pictures on this forum for the last several months, but the two images that immediately came to my mind was the old Milwaukee Mecca floor and the Flint Tropics.
  16. Also, especially during the beginning of the year, you will see rookie bullpen pitchers with a pink or "girly" backpack containing gum, sunflower seeds, etc. walking out to the bullpen before the game as a "hazing" ritual.
  17. Has RRR ever been questioned after the game about constantly running Yuni out there on a daily basis? If so, what is his answer? I just don't get it.
  18. I discovered Pandora 2 or 3 years ago. I enjoyed it. Someone told me about Grooveshark about a year or so ago. I tried that for a few days and I just found the other suggestions they would play for the artists I entered were a bit too broad and then it would play some really "deep cuts" from the artists that I did enter. I don't necessarily mind that to an extent. I do enjoy hearing other music than just a groups A singles. I don't mind hearing the B songs or possibly a few C songs, but for the most part some of the other songs are not remotely popular for a reason and I rather not have to sit through them or have to click to skip them. I think Pandora is pretty good at matching artists that are similar to the ones you enter. For example, I added Asteroid Galaxy Tour the other day (that I discovered through the Heineken commercial) and I'm really liking the other artists that they are also playing on that channel. Yes, you do get more repeats than you do on Grooveshark, but you get a lot less completely off the wall songs that no one has ever heard of (for good reason).
  19. This may have been mentioned in last night's thread (too lazy to look), but does Ellis remind anyone else of a right handed Craig Counsell
  20. Ok, I just realized that up until today (I'm 45), I have misheard a line in the song "Taking it to the Streets" by the Doobie Brothers. At the end of the song they keep singing the line "Taking it to the streets" over and over. After each time they repeat that, Michael McDonald sings a response. After one of them he sings "We'll discuss it further". I always thought he was singing "Rural Wisconsin farmer". Don't ask me why. It's a song about poverty. Thought maybe he was making some sort of political statement about the plight of the farmer.
  21. I opened this thread expecting the read some story about the Red Sox complaining about something. I thought maybe "gripping" was misspelled with one extra p and I was also thinking, isn't it the Cardinals that are the big gripers? I'm still trying to get a handle on the use of the word in this context. By gripping, do you mean they are trying to "hold on" to the lead? It's more like they are losing their grip than actually gripping. Not worried though. I'm thinking sometime around the weekend of the 23th - 25th will be the clinching game.
  22. I know a few guys who do the Brewers fantasy camp. One of them does it almost every year. My understanding is that over drinks and lunch, some of the former players as well as current Brewer staff can be fairly candid with their comments regarding current Brewer players and prospects. My friend told me that at one point a couple of years ago Gamel was referred to as "hard headed and dumb as a box of rocks" .
  23. The single seat ticket holder who now sits next to our seats on a fairly regular basis (no it's not "front row Amy"!). I know this sounds rude. She seems to be a nice enough person, but she is constantly honing in and feeling like she needs to comment on all of our family conversations. If you were observing our "group" as an outsider, you would assume that she came to the game with us. She can also be somewhat annoying in her "cheering" antics and the last game we attended she wore some perfume that was, to put it mildly, not pleasant and a bit on the strong side (I guess that's much better than BO).
  24. I will concede that Bando and the developmental staff in that period did a horrible job of scouting and drafting players. They also did not make trades that would have helped them build a core of solid young players. However, and I mentioned this briefly in the "fandom" thread, I have a hard time faulting Bando, Bud, or Wendy for not increasing the payroll during this time period. Yes, when the payroll is low and the product on the field is below par it's hard to draw fans, but when you have one of the lowest attendances in the league it's hard to increase payroll. It's a bit of a chicken and egg scenario. People fault Bando for letting Molitor go, but were these same people going to games on a regular basis and supporting the team so that they could afford to keep Molitor and make other improvments to the product on the field?
  25. The Brewers leaving Wisconsin would be the only reason I can think of that would cause me to stop being a Brewer fan. I would still be a baseball fan, but probably to a lesser degree. The Brewers going through another Bando type era would not lesson my "fandom" of the Brewers. I know the thought process is that if the team owner and front office do not seem to care for the team then why should I continue to pay for tickets. Regardless of what management does, I'm still going to root for the home town ball players. Even if that means I need to spend money on tickets. I know that there is already a thread about "hating Bando", so I won't get too much into this other than to say there was a bit of a chicken and egg thing going on. Hard to draw fans when your payroll is one of the lowest in the league and the team is struggling because of that, but also hard to increase payroll when your attendance is one of the lowest in the league. I think of the movie Major League and the die hards in the bleachers banging the drum and following their pathetic team every game regardless of the payroll or who is on the team. I have been a partial season ticket holder for the last 20 years and there have been some pretty brutal stretches in that time period but I continued to renew each year with optimism that the next year would be different. I feel like I'm finally being rewarded for my patience (as I was briefly in 2008). I have always been a bit bothered by fans that come and go with the fortunes of the team. On the other hand if the Brewers suddenly became like the Yankees and started spending $200 million plus each year on payroll, that might lesson my enthusiasm for the team more than a lowball payroll would. It's like rooting for the runner in the 400 yard dash that is given a 100 yard lead before the race even starts. Hard to get excited about that.
