  1. I really am having a hard time trying to figure out why Weeks did not pinch hit instead of Josh Wilson last night with 2 on and 2 outs in the top of the 7th (I think that was the inning - I was flipping back and forth between the Brewer game and Packer game.). BA and Rock seemed to be on board with the decision, stating that you don't want to put Weeks in that type of situation with his first AB of the DL. Really? Why? Will his confidence be shattered if he does not come through? I can't believe that he would have been a worse alternative than Josh Wilson at that point. This "easing" players into situations really bothers me, especially when you are in a penant race and are on the verge of losing your 3rd straight game. It's not like he's been out for a year. If he's not healthy enough to bat in that situation, then he should not be off the DL. Wilson actually did end up having a fairly good at bat, battling off some pitches, but then he tried to pull a pitch that was low and away and grounded weakly to 3rd.
  2. ..and David Puddy. ----- Continued here: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=30568
  3. Thanks a lot for that link bball! I'm not sure what our model number is, but I'm going to check that out when I get home. I also found another forum where people were having similar problems with their Samsung TV. Some of the posters stated that they called Samsung and that they sent out a technician to fix it for free even though the warranty had expired. So, I'm going to try that route first and if that does not work, I may try to fix it myself.
  4. In the print section version of the Journal/Sentinel, they have a "Game Report" section each day after a game. In that section they have the current Brewers record, Last years Brewers record (through the same amount of games), and an "on pace for" record. Today it said they were on pace for 99-63? Huh? How do they calculate that? They are currently at .599 winning %. That comes out to 97 wins (not 99).
  5. We have a flat screen Samsung TV that we purchased 4 or 5 years ago. I forget the size (41 or 42 inches..something like that?). Over the past several months the TV has taken longer and longer to turn on. It makes a clicking sound. Starts out as quick clicks, then the clicks get farther apart, then finally the TV turns on. I have not timed it, but I think we are now up to about 2 or 3 minutes before the TV actually turns on. If the TV was just recently one (within the last 2 or 3 hours), it turns on a bit more quickly. It's like it has to "warm up" or something. Very annoying. I'm not sure if it's worth getting fixed. I really hate to buy a new TV. This TV works fine, but not sure how much longer I can take this issue and I'm wondering if someday it will decide not to turn on at all.
  6. I don't have anything against the Gold look, but I'm a little disappointed with this "everyone where gold to Saturday's game" idea. I have tickets to Saturday's game and now I'm feeling guilted into having to go out an buy one of the new gold shirts. I have been a partial season ticket holder for about 20 years. I go to Spring Training almost every year. I have Brewer licence plates. I just got done committing a pretty big chunk of cash towards playoff tickets. Now, if I'm not willing to go out and buy a gold jersey or t-shirt for me, my wife, and my son, am I somehow supposed to feel like I'm not "playing along" and am somehow less of a fan? Does anyone know if they have gold colored Brewer tees at Kohl's? I find that Brewer clothing is usually cheaper there than at the fan shop and fits much better. Seems like every Brewer t-shirt I have ever purchased at Miller Park or in Maryvale that is a L or XL is long and skinny. I hate tight t-shirts. I like my clothing loose and comfortable.
  7. I agree with Canal St. for general parking. For preferred parking, enter via Miller Park Way and turn left (west) at Canal St. Go around the right field side of the ballpark (via Frederick Miller Way) by the trees that lead to the VA. Try to park as far to the right (west) side as the attendants will let you (in the Thomas or Fingers lot). To exit, do not go to the back of the lot by Mitchell Blvd and I-94. Instead, exit in one of the gaps in the median on the west side of the lot (onto Frederick Miller Way). Turn left and go back around the ballpark the way you came in. Then you can get back on I-94 via Miller Park Way, or you can take National Ave to 84th or all the way to 894. Have to agree that if you get in the Thomas or Fingers lot and want to go West after the game that you should exit in one of the gaps in the median on the west side of the lot onto Frederick Miller Way. However, I have to completely disagree that you should then go Left (???). Go right towards the Mitchell Blvd Exit. That gets you directly onto I94 West and you are home free. We do that every game we go to and never have a problem. However, also have to agree with jeffryscott that, unless you live in the NE part of IA going to I43 to Beloit then through IL would probably be a better route (especially if you are currently going West to Madison then south towards Beloit - I43 would be much quicker, easier, and less crowded).
  8. The only alternatives going West are basically Greenfield or Bluemound and those are not really great alternatives and you will have to get back on the freeway at some point anyways if you are going all the way back to IA. As I said in an earlier post, you can stay until the last out and still beat most of the crowd to your car (if you park in preferred). We stay until the last out for most games, we park in preferred, and have never had a problem or long wait getting out of the lot (we have a 20 game pack that consists mostly of Friday and Saturday night games).
  9. Yeah..that doesn't seem to make sense. Perhaps they just were not allowing buses to do the drop off and turn around. They added a "circular drive" down where you enter preferred parking off of Miller Parkway. During some games we have had to wait while limos, cabs, buses exit this area after dropping off people. Parking preferred parking cars on the street that circles Miller Park is not unusual. We have had to do that once or twice. Depending on which way you are facing, it's not always a bad thing as it gives you a quick "get away" as you are leaving.
  10. My wife and I are pretty much in the same situation. We both have 2004 Hyundais that we purchased new at the same time. I have 150,000 miles on mine and she has something like 130,000 on hers. This is not a ton of miles, but we have both had our cars in a lot lately and the repair dollars and hassles are starting to add up. Both cars currently have issues that allow them to be drivable right now, but we are told, eventually these issues will become more serious and the repair bills will be high. I also am due to get a new timing belt on my car, which is a $1000+ repair on a Hyundai Santa Fe because of the location of the belt. Our repair shop has also hinted to us that it may be time to start looking at replacing our cars instead of continuing to throw money at repairs. As much as I hate shopping for cars (and paying monthly payments!), it probably makes sense for us to start looking soon. It's better to look for a car when you don't have to have one right away than to wait until your current car is undrivable.
  11. For Friday nights Cubs/Brewers game we left Waukesha at about 5:15 and made it to our seats about 5 minutes before the first pitch at 7:10. We normally circle around the stadium and enter off of Miller Parkway. Generally this goes pretty smoothly. However the traffic was really backed up and hardly moving once we got on the ramp that goes from EI94 to S Miller Parkway. My thought was that it was due to the Chicago traffic coming from W94. It was one of the slowest experiences I ever had getting into preferred parking. I didn't have any problem at all leaving. We always get up and stand behind our section after there is one out in the ninth and then pretty much run to our car after the last out of every game and usually are on the freeway within 10 minutes of the last out.
  12. Is she? I know David Ortiz was or is dating (married?) to someone from Wisconsin. I didn't realize that Prince's wife was from here as well?
  13. Yeah, I have to see if my boss has any further details, like where this was and when this was. However, you would think that if he did actually buy a new house that Hardricourt or someone that covers the Brewers would blog about this. So, yes, maybe he's just renting.
  14. Actually I did hear something about this. My Boss, who is not a big Brewer fan, overheard some of us in the office talking about the Brewers the other day. He told us that a business acquaintance was telling him about a house in their neighborhood that sold and seeing some kids in the yard. This person then went to a Brewer game that night (or the next day or something?), saw Prince on the field before the game with his kids and realized that those were Prince's kids he saw running around the yard of the house that just sold.
  15. In that article, Wexler wonders why it matters to fans if games are moved to another station. I guess it doesn't if they are moving to stations that can be picked up outside of Milwaukee County. However, I live in Waukesha and in the past there were times that they bumped the Brewer's game to a weak AM station that I could not pick up. The stations they are using on Thursday are all "stronger signal" stations. Also, I know that the time of the Brewer game on Thursday has been that way since early in the year, but I'm curious as to why they are starting at 3:10. I actually prefer it and wish they would start all weekday day games at that time. I work down town and this allows me to leave work before the game ends and avoid the Brewer traffic.
  16. I've heard that before somewhere but I don't get it. What is there to hate so much about batting 5th? Don't like batting with guys on base? Don't like having to bat after the pitcher intentionally walks Fielder? I can see some guys not liking hitting in front of the pitcher, or even batting lead off (I batted leadoff a lot and sometimes it felt odd to step in and hit before really getting into the game, but after the top of the first is didn't matter to me). But 5th? Is it really so different than 6th or 7th? Other than hitting 1st or 8th I don't see how it would be such a big deal to a major league hitter. I was thinking the same thing. I don't get it...don't like batting 5th?
  17. If Prince is doing this to send a message to the Brewers, I have lost a little respect for him. I won't argue with him wanting to get paid well, but really, you are going to bring this up now?! After all, isn't he the one that stated he didn't want to talk contract during the season because he didn't want it to be a distraction? It would be nice if this was some sort of indication that he and the Brewers have come to an agreement...but I doubt it.
  18. I guess most of my favorite athletes are from my childhood. There were certain players in certain sports that I would try to pretend I was whenever I was playing that sport. 1) Molitor/Yount - I put them together because I just always think of one when I think of the other. If you were young and a Brewer Fan in the late 70s and throughout the 80's this is a no brainer. 2) John McEnroe - Made tennis interesting to watch 3) Roger Staubach - Had a poster of him in my bedroom. I was a closet Cowboys fan as a child (always a Packers fan - but they really stunk back then) 4) John Elway - I was also a Bronco fan and Elway sure was fun to watch. 5) Vida Blue - Not sure why. Loved the high leg kick and he just seem so intimidating on the mound. I was always trying to copy his pitching form. 6) Rod Carew - I remember sticking wads of gum in my mouth and playing 1st base in the summer rec league pretending I was Carew. Unfortunately I was not a lefty. Then there was Reggie Jackson. This was the definition for me of the kind of guy you "love to hate". Regardless of how much of a jerk he was (I think he pretty much invented the "hit a HR and watch it fly" stance), I don't know if there was any other player that me and my friends would try to copy more than Reggie when we were goofing around and playing baseball at the park. I have fond memories of booing Reggie at County Stadium, but at the same time, having an inner respect for him.
  19. Thanks for the info! However, now I'm really confused. It does seem like $315K for the 18th rounder is high. It would seem logical to me that the signing bonuses would decrease as the rounds got later. While there is a general trend that way, if I'm the 10th pick I have to be scratching my head and wondering how 18 and 27 got so much more than me. How did 18 get more than twice that of 6 through 10? How is that justified?
  20. Houston is 8 games away from being mathematically eliminated. This got me thinking about two things. A) What is the earliest that a team has ever been mathematically eliminated? and B) How many times has a team been eliminated in August? Seems like that would be fairly rare...but maybe not.
  21. In the title of the designated draft thread that gives information on each Brewer draft pick it states what the top two picks signed for and the 18th pick. What about all the rest? I opened up the thread expecting to see this information on each pick and it was not there. So, I was curious as to why the 18th pick's signing amount was listed in the title and not others. Is that a large amount for an 18th rounder? I have no idea and would be curious to find out what all the other picks that were signed got.
  22. What I was trying to figure out was what is the greatest lead that the Brewers have ever had in a division. From my research, the best I could find was 6.5 games in 1982 (around late Aug/early Sept). edit: I guess they had an 8.5 game lead in late June of 2007. I didn't realize it got that high before their big collapse in the second half that year.
  23. Yeah, not sure how long you have been a Brewer fan, but get used to it. This has always bugged me regardless of what place the Brewers are in. An exhibition game should NEVER supersede a regular season game. Over the years, I have learned to live with this the best I can, but it still steams me. Yeah, I misspoke when I implied that I was surprised. I have been a Brewers fan for several decades and know that this has been a consistent policy for WTMJ. It bothers me a lot though, and just think it's pretty bush league that the station wouldn't go to bat for a first place team's regular season game over an exhibition game's preview show. I guarantee that the entire Brewer game will be bumped from 620 on Friday night. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif
  24. With all the deals the Brewers offer throughout the season, I have thought about doing this as well. I could probably save a bunch of money. However, as I stated in my earlier post, if you continue to renew your tickets each year and build up some "seniority", you will get better seat selections when it comes to playoff times. Considering the fact that the Brewers do not exactly have a long history of playoff appearances I do realize that it's difficult to be patient and continue to renew each year with the hopes that they will get there some day.
  25. My understanding (and what I have always been told by my ticket rep) is that the priority goes to full season ticket holder, followed by 40, and 20. Then, after that, it's by seniority. So, the longer you stay a season ticket holder the better seats you will get for post season. We have been partial season ticket holders for 18 or 19 years now (lost track) Our normal 20 game package seats are in the family section on the lodge level (217). In '08 we were 3 sections down the 1st base line from this section. This year we are 2 sections away (Section 215) and 2 rows closer. So, we are getting closer to our normal seats. Maybe in 10 years, if they make the playoffs, we will actually be in the same section!
