  1. Sorry, this is a little off the topic of this thread. Our family does not own Wii and the only games I played on Wii are the Sports Resort or Sports games that come with most Wii systems. My sister-in-law and her husband own Wii and we also got it for my parents as a Christmas gift. The biggest gripe I have with they system is the remotes and using more than one to play a game. The process you have to go through seems overly complicated (especially when you are trying to explain it to 75+ year olds). First you have to go to the Wii menu, then you have to select to add a remote (which is not very self explanatory), then you have to press 1 and 2 at the same time on all the remotes you want to use, then you have to place all the remotes on a flat surface to "calibrate" them. From what I can tell, you have to go through this process each time you want to play a game that requires more than one remote. I can't believe they could not have simplified this somewhat. edit: I have know idea what happened with the paragraphs of this post. Half way through typing it, all the typing entered from the right and I couldn't change it or fix it. I was hoping that when I posted it it would correct itself.
  2. Well, if it's true that the Brewers were ranked 30th even before the Greinke trade, then I think it makes that trade look that much more impressive.
  3. I thought this was a pretty good time lapse video of the storm on the East Coast (Hmm...couldnt' get the embed to work?): http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2010/12/27/5721229-the-big-blizzard-in-40-seconds?GT1=43001
  4. I don't have to remove rain from my driveway. I'll take rain. However, I don't live in a flood plain and we have never had any major issues with water in our basement. (Ok, I just guaranteed that the next time it rains our sump pump won't work!) Yes, rain at or around 32 degrees can cause issues on the road, but rain at anything above 34 or 35 is generally not an issue in regards to icing on the roads. Once Christmas is over, I want all snow to disapear.
  5. Ack? I'll take a 40 degrees rainy day any day in December in Wisconsin.
  6. It would be very hard for me to pick my top 3-5 episodes. It seems like every time a see the start of a Seinfeld rerun I say..Oh, this is a good one. I do remember that when "The Contest" first came out it was huge. I worked for a large bank at the time and I don't ever remember a TV show being talked about so much the next day. I remember sitting in the cafeteria and I swear I heard 3 or 4 tables around us talking about it, not to mention conversations in the elevator.
  7. I may be proven (again - proven is not a word? - when I type it in Microsoft Word, it does not try to correct it.) wrong some day, but I really don't have much faith in Gamel ever becoming a productive MLB player. Some of this has to do with intangibles. I think he's going to be a head case. I would love to see them trade him for something of value. I'm guessing they have not yet because no one is really willing to offer much for him.
  8. From Wikipedia: The use of gross likely originated from the fact that 144 can be counted on the fingers using the fingertips and first two joints of each finger when marked by the thumb of one hand. The other hand is then used to count multiples of 12. Therefore, 12 countings of 12 equals 144. It is a simple counting system that can be practiced without paper or other marks. Eeeeenteresting. So, people were basically using their fingers like an abacus...yes, interesting. edit: By the way...picked up a Greinke shirt yesterday for my son for as a Christmas gift. Something about seeing Greinke on the back of a shirt that says "Brewers" on the front brings a smile to my face.
  9. Seems like all the new fielding stats put down Hart as not a great fielder. I guess I'm not going to disagree with that. However, do any of these stats take arm strength into account? It seems to me that Hart as a fairly strong arm. Braun's arm seems to be slightly above average as well.
  10. I think it's a pretty huge leap of faith to say "worst case scenario" Gamel can match McGehee. Based on what? Based on his minor league numbers? Why would you bench someone who has proven that he can be successful in MLB in favor of someone "we think" will be a good MLB player? I don't think putting Gamel at 3B in place of McGehee is putting "the best available player on the field". edit: Also - "I don't expect McGehee to hit much better than he did last year." Gee, what do you expect? 23HR, 103 RBI, .800 OPS. If he just matches those numbers (much less betters them), I would be happy. I don't see Gamel putting up similar numbers, especially in what would be his first full year (if he started over McGehee)
  11. It's nice to see that Ron Roenicke visits Brewerfan.net.
  12. Ok, why is a gross 12 dozen? Why not 10 dozen or 14 dozen? Is this considered a gross for everything (not just shirts)? If so, I never knew that. Sorry, I know I brought this thread way off tangent. If anyone has any inside info on what time the shirts will be arriving today...please share! edit: After doing a little more research, I see that 144 is a standard gross for everything. Wow, learn something new every day. I didn't realize that there was a standard number that defined gross. I thought it differed depending on what and from who you were ordering.
  13. That's a good catch Al. I was wondering why it was 1440. So a gross is 144? Is that an industry standard? I'd be curious as to how that number came about. I wish I knew when the shirts would be available today. I know it's almost impossible to call the clubhouse and have a person answer. I'd like to go at lunch and pick one up for my son at Christmas..but I don't want to waist the trip if they are not going to be there by then.
  14. It's hard for me to pick anyone as a favorite to win the NL Central . I think Cincy, StL, and Milwaukee are all going to be contenders. It may come down to who can stay the healthiest and/or who will make an impact trade during the season. I feel the same way about the wild card. Atlanta and Philly will both be strong in the East. So, by default, I had to choose option C.
  15. The news that I94 W bound will be repaved this spring and the estimated travel times they have posted in the Journal/Sentinel this morning. E Bound will be done next spring. I coach youth baseball in Waukesha and work downtown. It's going to be very difficult for me to get to games in time for pre-game warmup (or on time for the 1st pitch for that matter!). http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/mad.gif - On the other hand my anger about this was offset by the news of the Greinke deal http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
  16. Yeah, it would be nice to see who else is on the list. Depending on who is on that list, this part is somewhat of a no win for the Brewers. If KC inspects Jeffress' records and they don't like what they see, that would be a bit concerning even though we get to keep him. Otherwise they take him.
  17. Finally got through all the posts. I'm a big fan of trading potential for proven (apparently that's not a word?) talent, so this deal excites me. Also, I definitely will take 2 years of REAL contention and playoff possibilities, even it that means that it's followed by 4 or 5 years of rebuilding. I've been a Brewer Fan for 35+ years. The vast majority of those years have been "rebuilding" years so it's not like I'm not use to it. More frosting on the cake?.....Another player that the Yankees don't get and you know that TB will never trade Garza or Sheilds to them. Have fun with round two of Pavano NY.
  18. I'll never understand why Cops got such a bad rap. I love Cops. I have always been a pretty big fan of Coen Bros. movies. Fargo might be my favorite movie (Raising AZ is not far behind). I really like that this not an R movie and that it sounds like it would be pretty safe for my 12 year old son to see.
  19. Sure seems that way. This was also being discussed in the "Prince trade partners" thread in Trade Rumors forum.
  20. Someone at work mentioned priceline to me as well. I may wait a while and then give that a try. Sounds like you set up an account and then go out there and make a bid. If someone takes your bid you are locked in. Here are my concerns. - Seems like you only get to name the "daily" price you want. What if I'm picking the car up on Tues at noon and returning the next Tues at 3pm? Is that 7 days? Do they round up to 8 days? Do they prorate? When I book through a rental car company they never really give me a "daily" rate...so I'm not sure what to use as a starting point. - If someone accepts your bid you don't get a chance to reject. I would really like to see the final price with all taxes and fees and any other "surprises" before I lock in. I don't want to find out that I have to pick up my car somewhere off-site, or that insurance is automatically tacked on, or that they adding on some other charge that wouldn't be on a normal car rental.
  21. Rental Car Prices. I booked an end of Feb Orlando vacation about 2 months ago. Like an idiot I did not book a rental car at the time. Now Rental Car prices have sky rocketed. The cheapest car I can find is a Full Size SUV through Enterprise. That's actually cheaper than any compact or economy cars I could find (altough, I usually don't rent compact or economy cars).
  22. How do you know he didn't? Hardricourt is not always aware of everything Melvin does. There wasn't a lot of talk (was there any?) of the Brewers possibly acquiring Marcum before that happened. You don't know what you don't know.
  23. 60% off a gift card is huge. I don't know that I have ever seen any company sell gift cards for that type of discount. That's like giving away cash. When you have sales on different items you can pick and choose items that may not be selling well. Selling a gift card for a deep discount is like giving that discount on anything. That is why they limit it to one per person. They basically want to give you a $30 break on one service that you can choose. Places like Frozen Ropes, NxLevel, and other youth sports training places typically do not offer big discounts, if any at all, especially on training and lessons. There are people who have to give these lessons and they need to get paid. High school coaches will use these places to make "extra cash" by giving group or one on one lessons. It would be hard to make it worth while for them and still make a profit for the business if your offering 60% off what is normally charged for a lesson.
  24. I'm not sure what you are saying? Obviously they are going to allow anyone to purchase as many as they want at the regular price. It makes sense that they would allow you to purchase only one at the discounted price. One hour in the batting cage is $50 and most other lessons, rentals are > $50. They basically just want to give you a $30 discount. Otherwise someone could buy $500 worth of services for $200. My question is...if I'm coaching a team and I have 10 boys on the team and everyone buys one card for $20, can I pool the cards together and get $500 of rental time for the whole team? Edit: I just called Frozen Ropes. They stated they would not honor multiple gift cards. One gift card per use. However, what I forgot to ask them was, how would they know that the gift card was a discounted gift card? Are the gift cards you purchase through this site different looking than what they normally sell?
