  1. I thought the toast scene was one of the funniest moments of the season.
  2. To me, this was the funniest episode in a long time. Laughed out loud at the following: -Opening vomit scene with Crede just eating his noodles like nothing was a miss. -Oscar being very offended that Kevin could be mistaken for being his "partner". -Michael trying to come to Jim rescue and explaining why sometimes you don't want protection. also.. "So, will fireworks be provided?"
  3. Of course, one wonders if "War and Peace" would have been as succesful under this alternate original Title?
  4. If you sum the WAR for a teams players, which is determined independently of their record (without factoring in wins and losses at all) it predicts, fairly well, their record for the season. Its not as though they took the teams wins, then divided them up amongst the players. So, going forward, if you *can* use WAR and WAR predictions to correlate to a teams record the next year. I think if you put a teams stats in front of me at the end of the year (excluding pitcher's wins), I could give you a pretty good idea of how that team did without doing a whole lot of calculations. I don't see why this is so amazing. Sure, if I knew each players 2010 WAR before the season started, it might be useful, but I don't. Regardless of the systems that claim to be good at player projections, most of them are really not that accurate from what I can tell, and even if they are, they can't predict injuries, trades, season long slumps (Zito, Andrew Jones, etc), or other in season roster changes. It's about as predictive as the stock market.
  5. I'm not much of a stat person either...at least not as much as many of the posters here. However, I'll never understand these stats that the "experts" call predictive. When you take a stat or a set of stats from a certain year and it somehow correlates to the team's wins in that same year, that's not predictive, that's reflective.
  6. Winter is beyond stupid. It defies all logic and reason. It really serves no purpose at all.
  7. If those are jeans he is wearing, I see nothing wrong with wearing white tube socks.
  8. Correct, Mark Lester from "Oliver!" Also, until recently, I had no idea he was Michael Jackson's Godfather.
  9. He was a child star. Movies, not TV.
  10. Yes, but how do you get to the "off site"? Maybe you are saving $10 a day ($50 for 5 days), but if it's a $20+ one way cab ride (with tip) - which would be $40 (including the return trip), then that really cuts in to your savings, not to mention that it's not as convenient. Also, as I mentioned in a previous post, the off site locations are not always going to be open when you want them to be. Also, I have noticed a lot that many times there is no difference beween the cost of a mid-size car and a full-size car, or the cost difference is very minimal ($5 - $10 for a week). That NY times artical makes the car rental companies sound like OPEC.
  11. ewizabeff, Most car rental sites (including Fox) let you book without securing with a credit card. In fact, I would never rent a car from a site that requires a credit card up front - unless there is some really great bargain they are offering. So, it doesn't hurt to book now and then keep checking (which is what I plan to do). If you find a lower price, you can cancel your original booking with no penalty. In fact, sometimes if you check the night or two before, you can get some really great rates if they are having trouble renting cars at that time (usually not the case during March in Phoenix however.) Another "trick" I heard is that sometimes the car rental sites outside of the airport provide cars at much lower rates and it might be worth it to take a taxi to the rental car place. The only issue with this, other than inconvenience, is most "off site" locations are not open on weekends and close at 5pm on weekdays. Also, Enterprise will not pick up at an airport if they already have an airport location.
  12. Actually, this is kinda-sorta on the right track.
  13. Can anyone explain what is happening with Car rental prices? Every year around this time, we plan our trip to spring training. Normally, I can get a full size car rental from one of the major carriers (Alamo, National, etc) for about $250 or sometimes less (I usually use an Entertainment book coupon that saves me $25 to $30). Yesterday, I went on to check prices at just about every carrier and could find nothing less than $415. Finally I found a smaller car rental place (Fox - limited locations, mostly in the West) for about $300. What is going on? All the other prices are down (Air fare, hotel, etc). Why are car rentals so much more expensive now?

  15. It's near the airport...so, it's convienent in that sense.
  16. Need to look at the playoff match ups a bit more to make any predictions. However, I'm rooting for Detroit tomorrow. I think Detroit has been hurt more than many other cities in the last year or so. They need something to be happy about.....just as long as they don't burn down the city during their "celebrations". Also, I have never been huge fan of the Twins. A. I hate the dome they play in now. but think it's a mistake to build a new stadium without a retractable roof. B. The fans never support the team the way they should. The twins are always in the playoff race, but they just can't seem to draw fans like a playoff contending team should.
  17. I know we had a "bad driving habits" thread about a year or so ago, but lately there have been two things that have really been bugging me on the roads: A. People that don't know how to make left hand turns. Especially on side streets. I almost got hit head on 2 or 3 times in the last week by people who don't seem to have the physical capability of widening their turns when they are making a left hand turn. Stay in your lane! B. People who seem to have no destination and are appear to be just driving around aimlessly. Of, course I encounter this a lot as a pedestrian as well in on narrow crowded sidewalks or hallways.
  18. Oh now that is funny.I don't get it?
  19. Hey, it's not like he was blamed for a hurricane or something. I'm sure he'll be ok.
  20. Wow! Chicago didn't even make it out of the first round of voting!
  21. I love the Olympics. I think it's a great event and I really hope Chicago lands them. However, like other's here, I have the feeling it's going to be Rio.
  22. Anyone see this?: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-signstealing100109&prov=yhoo&type=lgnshttp://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=jp-signstealing100109&prov=yhoo&type=lgns Mauer does appear to be giving signals from 2nd. Sure it happens all the time. Interesting thing is, that without a guy on 3rd, the pitcher would not be going from the wind up. Because of this, Mauer is able to focus on the catchers signals and not worry about any pick-off attempts to 2nd base.
  23. I think this theory has pretty much been disproved. From what I understand, most European flights allow cell phone usage and the main hangup in the US is the annoyance that it might cause for some of the passengers. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/travel/2009964356_webcell29.html?syndication=rss
  24. I would be shocked if Lopez get's anything more than a 3 year $24 mil contract. Although, I should be use to being shocked by player contracts by now.
