  2. Are you talking about face value or secondary market value? If you look at stubhub.com right now, depending on what series in the playoffs you are talking about and seat location, tickets are ranging from $500 to $5000 per seat. If you are talking about face value it will be hard to obtain tickets at that price unless you are a season ticket holder. Although I'm sure the Brewers will be announcing some sort of lottery system for the general public soon. I don't have my invoice right in front of me, so I don't remember the breakdown of all the series and prices. But my 3 seats in the 200 level with preffered parking had a total price tag of around $3,750 for the first round through the WS.
  3. There was a thread about this exact same subject earlier in the year (I may have even started it, I don't remember) but this is what really upset me about the whole situation:
  4. It was bad enought that Bob Webb made such a quick decision on the call. What's worse to me is that he refused to reverse the call afterwards. Official scorers reverse their decisions all the time during the course of games. He had to know that people were upset with his call and, if after looking at the replay, he still thought he made the right call, then that's a complete joke.
  5. I have been watching this thing all week. I'm a bit of a weather geek. In particular I have been reading Dr. Masterson's blog on weatherunderground.com. Nothing I read up until today predicted that Gustav would develop into a major hurricane before it passed Cuba and hit the warm Gulf waters. I didn't really read anything it over the last day and was shocked when I saw TV coverage of it at a resturant earlier this morning. A Category 4 as it slams into Cuba and all computer models pretty much are in agreement now as to it's future landfall somewhere along the Lousiana coast. Just incredible.
  6. I really would like to root for this underdog team, but I'm having a hard time considering the people who live in Tampa don't seem to care. They had about 12,600 at the game last night.
  7. Hate to jump the gun on this, especially since it's not even a Hurricane at the moment (expected to redevelop into a Category 1 later today). Also, I know that Hurricane predictions are not an exact science, but many of the models not only have this thing developing into a Cat 3 or 4 hurricane once it hits the warm waters of the Gulf, but they also have early landfall predictions in the vicinity of New Orleans. I was looking at population figures for New Orleans. Pre-Katrina, it appeared they were near 500,000. In July of '06 they were down to about 210,000. The latest census has them at about 240,000, but city officials disagree with that number and say it's closer to 300,000. Whatever the current population actually may be, do you think anyone would return to New Orleans again if they suffered another catastrophic Hurricane like Katrina? (updated thread title to accommodate Ike - hawing)
  8. I think this is what brewjihad was getting at, but I'm thinking that maybe the original point of jaybirds post was that new fans are fine, but new fans who are unwilling to admit that they are new and act like they have been fans for their entire life is another. I do understand jaybird's frustration. When the Packers were having their great years in the mid 90s and the Brewers were, well, "not doing so good" (not to mention the labor disputes and cancelled WS in MLB), I continued to follow them closely, had my 15 game pack at County stadium, wore Brewers clothing to work, etc. Everyone I worked with knew I was a big baseball fan and Brewer fan. Some of them pretty much mocked me and questioned how I could possibly like baseball or follow such a horrible team. So now, I see some of these same people who questioned my Brewer fandom back in the 90's wearing Brewer's gear, telling me about all the Brewer games they are going too, about how much they love the Brewers. I understand these new Brewer fans bring the team revenue which is helpful if we have hopes for the Brewers to continue their success going forward. I just hope that these new fans remain fans when the Brewers fortunes turn down the road..and they will, maybe in a couple of years, maybe in 5 years?, 10 years?, but they will. Maybe referring to these new fans as "idiots" is a bit harsh, but I understand the frustration.
  9. Russ, I think you hit the nail right on the head. I very rarely read any Brewer articles in the Journal/Sentinel because it's usually filled with so much fluff that doesn't really tell me anything other than what I already know.
  10. Ugh is right. I hate that when people haggle over a dime or a coupon's validity. There have been times where I have been so tempted to pull a quarter out of my pocket and flip it to the person and say, "Here, can we move this thing along now?"
  11. Again, this is really a non-story. There are probably 1000's of 9 year olds that can throw 40 mph. Next summer go to a game in the Wisconsin State Youth Baseball League. www.wsybl.com If a kid is not throwing at least 40 (from 46 feet) in that league in the 9 year old division, he's probably going to get hit pretty good. The league that this kid in Connecticut is in must be some sort of rec ball league or something.
  12. This has to be a typo or mistake of some kind. 40mph....even for an 8year old, is not that uncommon. I never had a gun on my son when he was 8, but I'm sure he threw at least 40. He threw mid-40's when he was 9 and in the upper 40's last year (10 years old). He was by no means considered overpowering. He was not the fastest pitcher on the team and not really that close to being the fastest pitcher in the league.
  13. Oh...duh! Can you tell I'm a public school graduate?
  14. Everyone talks about team chemistry in terms of trouble makers on the team. I don't necessarily view it that way. You can have a bunch of do-good teetotallers on a team, but if the individuals on the team just do not get along with one another or if they have trouble communicating with one other, then I think that can have a negative effect on a teams performance. Not always, but in general.
  15. I still don't get it. Why are there 3 divisional winners in each division? Is that 1st, 2nd, & 3rd? If so, does no one have a chance to win the West?
  16. Why does anyone care what Ryan Braun does? Why does anyone care what anyone does? Why even report any news at all?
  17. Why does anyone care what Ryan Braun does?
  18. Yeah, I think they have the same type thing on ESPN.com too. I'm confused though. Looking at that site, it appears that the Mets have a 6% Chance of winning the NL West and the Cards have a 4% chance of winning the West (assuming 1 Central, 2 is East, and 3 is West ??? Right?)
  19. Team chemistry is certainly a very real aspect of any sport. Feeling good about the situation you are in and having a connection with the other players on your team has an undeniable effect on the performance on the playing field. Not sure how anyone does not agree with that.
  20. Actually it's not. My family and I go there all the time. Great. Now you got me craving some of that Gelato.
  21. The JS is doing a Micro Brewers magnet set promotion this year (similar to the Brewer coind promotion they did last year). I'm looking at the paper right now and find it odd that not only is Villenueva (guys like Riske and Mota are included in the set) missing from the set but so is one of their highest paid, most heralded free agent acquisitions from a couple of off seasons ago, Jeff Suppan.
  22. I guess Pete Rose was a dork then.
  23. Ahhh...the semi-annual David Eckstien hatred thread. I will never understand it. Ok, I get it, many of you don't feel he deserves a spot on an MLB roster based on his stats. Maybe you are right. However, there are probably others that the same argument could be made for, but never show up on this list. What I can never understand is that some people seem to hate him because he hustles?? Yes, what a horrible trait to have. I can see hating guys like Sheffield, Bonds, and Zambrano, but Eckstein? It'snot his fault that he continues to get a spot on ML rosters every year. Or, hey, here's a thought...maybe there is more to being a good baseball player than stats. Ohhh...blasphimy..how could there possibly more to playing baseball, than puting up good stats?? Maybe quality MLB managers like LaRussa and Scioscia saw things they like in Eckstein that go beyond stats. Intangible qualities that can not be caught on paper that Eckstein brings to the table. Or, maybe it's some huge scandal. Some deep dark secrets that Eckstein knows about MLB that he threatens the league with every year unless they find a way to get him on a roster. Yeah, that must be it.
  24. Not sure how many of you caught this news story this morning. It's a tragic story and hopefully he will recover from the injuries he sustained. However, I can't help but wonder what a 2 year old boy is doing out at 10:45 at night chasing balloons/balls in the street. http://www.jsonline.com/w...te=8/22/2008&id=45145
  25. Good call, although I liked the Louie DePalma and Jim Ignatowski characters better.
